Guys at Flex
I know it's hard to please everyone and the 60 W output may be ideal for
some, but will there be a way to extract reduced power for external
microwave transverter drive? Even an internal connector on the transverter
board with a 1 watt tap point would be something we microwavers could
utilize for our transverters. I hope you will consider this when finalizing
your design or perhaps this has already been addressed. Please let us know.

This is really good news! 60W is enough to drive my current amps, as well
as the amps that I plan on using in the future, to full power and eventually

legal limit. I'll be purchasing one as soon as they go on sale.

Are there any plans to offer a diplexer so that two separate antennas and/or

amps can be connected simultaneously?

Subject: [Flexradio] Flex-1500 and multiple transverters

Will the Flex-1500 have a mechanism such as UCB or Flex-Wire to support
control of multiple transverters (e.g., relay control to select the
transverter, key out for transmit, and sequencing for pre-amps and
amplifiers)? Also, is provision made for an external pre-amp for 6M? My
experience with the 5000A is that a pre-amp is an absolute necessity on 6M
(with a 21 dB ARR pre-amp the noise floor drops 21 db).

[GY] We do plan to have a FlexWire control output for the purposes stated.
We will probably have a higher gain preamp in the 1500 at the expense of
blocking dynamic range. Note that the 21 dB drop in the noise floor is
probably not calibrated accurately. You will not get 1 dB/dB of gain.

Is it possible to run two copies of PowerSDR at the same time - one for the
5000A and one for the 1500?

[GY] This is as yet untested but I expect that it will not be a problem.
People do this now with the SDR-1000 and FLEX-5000 on the same system.

I'm thinking of placing my pre-order this week, but don't have sufficient
info to determine if it will meet my needs.

[Flexradio] IS THIS NORMAL or can someone explain why

2009-02-26 Thread FireBrick
Using Setup>Audio>VAC with a choice of:
Driver: Windows Direct Sound
Input vac1
Output vac2
WinWarbler Digital Mode
Buffer size 2048 and Sample Rate 48000
The Setup>Audio>Primary settings are Buffer size 2048 and Sample Rate of 192000
results in a normal sounding and acting AFSK SIGNAL

but
same settings and operating PSK (any speed)
The speaker audio and signal display, at first sounds/appears normal but after
a few moments of transmission begins to get choppy and sounds/looks like it
stutters.

The same Setup options but using MME as the driver choice does NOT exhibit this
choppiness.

I'm throwing myself on the mercy of the Flex court and pleading total ignorance
as to what is the difference between DirectSound and MME.
Mea Culpa Mea Culpa Mea Culpa etc

(and I'm far too old and dense to learn it now)
(it took me weeks to understand the concept of Virtual com ports)

[Flexradio] new version of net possible problem

I did the windows update and it installed a .Net update

Now I'm having problems

Wasn't there some mention of this on the reflector.
So far using Restore hasn't fixed my problems.

Can't find a way to remove this new version of Net either.

Maybe MS is encouraging use to move off XP?

Here was a note from Jim:

All
I didn't really want to install .NET 3.5 but I always read the
notes first and found that what they are calling .NET 3.5
actually contains SP1 for .NET 2 which is required for some
programs I run, so I installed it. Here is a clip from the notes
on Microsoft's site:

Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5
Brief Description
Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 contains many new features building
incrementally upon .NET Framework 2.0 and 3.0, and includes .NET
Framework 2.0 service pack 1 and .NET Framework 3.0 service pack 1.

Hope this helps to explain things.

[Flexradio] Keyboard commands (5000A)

2009-02-26 Thread Cal Latham
I am new to the SDR world but am enjoying it greatly. I notice there are
Keyboard actions that allow various functions. Has anyone thought of using the
Space bar as a shortcut for PTT/MOX? Can it be implemented into the code? I
notice that if I use the mouse as MOX, thereafter the space bar works as MOX.
If I mouse click another function than the MOX action will go away. Thanks for
reading.

Here is something I found, if you have a brand new machine with no
applications installed, the patch wants to install anyway and you end up
with several copies of .NET with no applications using them.

[Flexradio] Stereo Audio

2009-02-26 Thread Mack
I thought I would share that I really appreciated this post. I manage to do at
least one dumb thing pretty often and this post really helped me. For you see,
I had been using line out on the Flex 5000A instead of the powered speaker
output. The former is mono and the later is stereo.

I suppose I did this originally because I run a very complex outboard audio
mixing system and originally did not have RX2. This post opened my eyes to what
I was missing by being able to run stereo into my mixer. I finally see what
binaural BIN sound is all about. I can now listen to two different signals in
each ear of my headphones. I can now do diversity reception. I was missing so
much in my previous configuration!

Thanks to everyone who posted to this thread for opening my eyes to the
possibilities.

Mack
