[Flexradio] Flex 5K: CW Sidetone and Transmit Dropouts
Happy Ending. Thanks to Tim and especially Dudley for the real-time exchange very late last night to solve this problem. Attention System Builders: The important lesson learned here is to make sure you are using the latest drivers for the peripherals in your system. DO NOT TRUST the Update Driver function in Device Manager in Windows. Go to each manufacturer's site and do your own check. Bill Gates kept telling me I had the latest drivers, but he was lying, of course. With the updated driver for the NVIDIA GTX260 and the i7 core running XP Pro, Latency went from 1100us to 27us. End of drop outs. By the way, the latency Thesycon latency checker that Dudley recommended was invaluable in troubleshooting all of this. 73 Frank N1UW P.S. Re: [Flexradio] 5K transmit band edge
No, this reflector was an appropriate forum to bring up the question. No apologizes are necessary. OOB transmit management currently is a permanent feature of all versions of PowerSDR. It is doing a brute force method of determining how close you can get to the band edge and still be legal by not transmitting OOB as required by the FCC. The new algorithm in the upcoming PowerSDR 2.0.0 uses a more intelligent way of determining if you are actually transmitting OOB, allowing you to get closer depending on the mode of operation. It will continue to be a standard feature of PowerSDR and the upcoming Deep Impact software initiative. -Tim From: w8...@yahoo.com [mailto:w8...@yahoo.com] Sent: Tuesday, November 10, 2009 11:20 AM To: Tim Ellison; flexradio@flex-radio.biz Subject: Re: [Flexradio] 5K transmit band edge Thanks Tim, I apologize, I guess this should be on the FlexEdge ref. Re: [Flexradio] 5K transmit band edge
Art, Look at your transmit profile to see what the filter upper limit is. I bet it is 3kHz. For example, if you wanted to check into the QCWA net on 14.347MHz, you need to set your transmit profile filter to have an upper limit of 2.9kHz. Remember that the filter selections on the main screen are for RX only. 73, Ray, K9DUR http://k9dur.info ___ FlexRadio Systems Mailing List FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz http://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexradio_flex-radio.biz Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/flexradio%40flex-radio.biz/ Knowledge Base: http://kc.flex-radio.com/ Homepage: http://www.flex-radio.com/ Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com
Re: [Flexradio] FireWire Speed Test?
I have look for years. There is no creature I have found that isn't a piece of $20,000 1394 test equipment. There is a way to possible determine it, but it is a purely academic exercise. Take two Win XP PCs with Firewire host bus adapters and connect them end to end. Load the Firewire network adapter (IP over 1394) on both Get one of the many freeware IP network stress testers that will slam UDP echo packets between two hosts at max speed. Get the data throughput numbers in packets per second. You will need to know the size of the IP packet and then convert packets to bits (make sure to include the IP header overhead) and you have the b/s value you are looking for. -Tim -Original Message- From: flexradio-boun...@flex-radio.biz [mailto:flexradio-boun...@flex-radio.biz] On Behalf Of Frank Karnauskas N1UW Sent: Tuesday, November 10, 2009 11:17 AM To: flexradio@flex-radio.biz Subject: [Flexradio] FireWire Speed Test? [Flexradio] PowerSDR MS Outlook
Is there a known incompatibility between Microsoft OUTLOOK and PowerSDR? My PC is a clone using: Microsoft Windows XP - Home Version 2002 - Service Pack 3 Intel Pentium Dual CPU E2220 @ 2.4 GHz 2 GB RAM Physical Address Extension 2 750 GB SATA drives SYBA Model SD-LUC-4F PCI to 1394 Lucent FireWire PCI Card Data Transfer Rate 400/200/100 Mbps Generally speaking I can run several programs simultaneously along with PSDR with no problems. If I run MS OUTLOOK and PSDR only, PowerSDR stops frequently (every minute or so) requiring a STOP/START operation to get things going again. I don't believe there are driver or interface card issues because PSDR runs without issue under all other circumstances even when I have 5 other applications running (Firefox, WORD, EXCEL, IE7, Acrobat Reader). Only MS OUTLOOK stops PSDR. Is there a known workaround to the PC setup or the interface driver or PSDR to allow MS OUTLOOK and PSDR to peacefully coexist? Perhaps a RAM upgrade to 4 GB??? Re: [Flexradio] PowerSDR MS Outlook
This is a well known problem. When Outlook sends or receives mail, it results in extremely long duration DPCs that lockup the data stream between the PC and the radio hardware. It is utilizing the NIC card and the hard drive. You can try setting the Firewire driver SafeMode to a higher value. -OR- Don't run Outlook with PowerSDR. Those are really your only options. -Tim -Original Message- From: flexradio-boun...@flex-radio.biz [mailto:flexradio-boun...@flex-radio.biz] On Behalf Of Frank Haas KB4T Sent: Tuesday, November 10, 2009 12:36 PM To: flexradio@flex-radio.biz Subject: [Flexradio] PowerSDR MS Outlook Is there a known incompatibility between Microsoft OUTLOOK and PowerSDR? Re: [Flexradio] PowerSDR MS Outlook
I had the same problem. It turned out that my firewire card was sharing the IRQ with the soundcard. Then every time Outlook would generate a sound of any kind PowerSDR would stop and I would have to click the start button on and off. First I turned off those Windows sounds, and later on changed the IRQ sharing and the problem went away even with the sounds turned back on. HTH. YMMV Paul Delaney K6HR Generally speaking I can run several programs simultaneously along with PSDR with no problems. If I run MS OUTLOOK and PSDR only, PowerSDR stops frequently (every minute or so) requiring a STOP/START operation to get things going again. ___ FlexRadio Systems Mailing List FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz http://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexradio_flex-radio.biz Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/flexradio%40flex-radio.biz/ Knowledge Base: http://kc.flex-radio.com/ Homepage: http://www.flex-radio.com/ Message delivered to arch...@mail-archive.com
Re: [Flexradio] Flex 5K: CW Sidetone and Transmit Dropouts
Frank, Glad that you got through it and all is well. Once you feel that everything is stable, be sure to make a backup, or Restore point so that you can always get back to a stable installation when all else goes bad. I have one XP system that has not done an update in 2 years and even the latest versions of PSDR still works great. We all get caught in the latest/greatest, but if it is running with out issue, best to leave it alone unless you are doing something that might need updating, for example security updates if you are going on the Internet, or adding some new program or updates to a program. Congrats on getting the new I7 smoking as it should. 73, Dudley WA5QPZ Frank Karnauskas N1UW wrote: Happy Ending. It would be nice if Flex would respond to Feature Requests by indicating whether they agree with the request or reject the request instead of letting requests remain on the list in limbo forever.
