If there is no power out in Tune, have you tried resetting the database?

I have been asking for several years to get the ID'er added.

But in the meantime, the Romac IDer works very well..You use it
with VAC and make sure that you have the PTT override the VAC, and just
leave VAC turned on.. Since I have an outboard mixer, it's easy too
to run the sound card output to another mixer input, then you can mix
the mic and IDer together.

[Flexradio] Cheap Laptop that Works

2010-10-23 Thread David Kennett
Hi everyone! I’ve had a Flex 3K for well over a year, and have gained much from
the reflector, but just now joined so I could relate my experience.

I must be pretty lucky, since my initial PowerSDR install went smoothly on a
3GHz, Via FW, Asus MB. I even got it working on an old Toshiba 900 MHz P3
laptop. I couldn’t run anything else, and the panadapter was pretty jerky, but
it worked fine on SSB.

I didn’t want to put big bucks in a laptop, and none of the cheap new ones had
firewire, or even a place for expansion. Searches at various hamfests yielded,
for me at least, a very satisfactory solution. It was an HP DV4000 laptop -
about 2005 vintage, running WinXP, 1.86 Ghz Pentium M, with 1 GB memory, Intel
video module, and TI firewire chip. Cost $180, but I’m not good at bargaining.
No discs with it, but HP’s website yielded drivers for the onboard stuff, and
for $16, I purchased a complete recovery disc set, including Windows. The
Windows code sticker was on the bottom of the DV4000, though I have not yet
needed to re-install anything.

I am running PowerSDR 1.18.3 - I know - not the latest. FW driver 3.5.0.7171. I
am able to run 96 KHz sampling, normal mode, and 1024 buffer. Getting things
running was a breeze. I am able to run Digipan or EasyPal with VAC, and surf
the internet at the same time with the built-in wi-fi with no problems. Maximum
CPU usage peaks at about 60 - 70% when dragging the panadapter. It’s jerky with
a maximum speed drag, but smooth at medium speed or below. With the driver’s
built-in latency checker, latency starts out about 100 -150 us, and after
several minutes peaks at 800 - 900. A quick check on CW showed no clipped
characters (at my humble speed), and there was no noticeable delay in the
side-tone.
While dragging the panadapter fast is perfectly smooth on my P4, the laptop is
acceptable.

The HPDV4000 works just fine. I just wanted to show that it’s not necessary to
have the latest and greatest.

Re: [Flexradio] vac sample rate for map65

2010-10-23 Thread FlexRadio Support, Dudley Hurry
Paul,

The I/Q can be passed at 96K via VAC if this is what you need, be sure to
check box the Direct I/Q box checked in the VAC window, and that you have
the VAC Settings in the VAC console set wide enough to pass the 96K .
Same is used in with CW Skimmer.

Hope this helps.

Re: [Flexradio] vac sample rate

2010-10-23 Thread Roger Rehr W3SZ
I got Linrad working with the Flex5000 back in 2007 and made a webpage
detailing how to do it at that time. It is really pretty simple, and is
just as Clay describes:

http://www.nitehawk.com/w3sz/flex-linrad.html

I haven't played with it recently, and I didn't take the next step to
make it work with MAP-65 as I have the Linrad Hardware [WSE boxes] that
I use as my receiver for 2 meter EME. Don't forget that you need both H
and V channels for MAP65 [but not for MAP65-iq].

Hope that helps,

Which program are you talking about? And why does it need a 96kHz
sampling

rate? EME stuff tends to be narrow bandwidth which favors low, not high,
sampling rates. Both WSJT and WSPR work with PowerSDR (although it takes
quite a bit to get WSPR to work with PowerSDR due to limitations
within WSPR

-- see http://flexradiowiki.com).

Map65 is like CW Skimmer but for WSJT. It expects the data to be at a
96 kHz sample rate and once per minute it decodes all of the WSJT
signals found in the bandpass. Much easier than trying to tune and
find signals that you can't hear.

If I'm not mistaken, Map65 receives it's data from Linrad which
broadcasts the data over a TCP/IP port, so the real task at hand is
getting Linrad working with the Flex 5000A. I did that once a long
time ago, but don't recall all the details now. However, if I
remember correctly, I was able to get Linrad to connect directly to
the Flex 5000A I/Q data stream by selecting Flex Audio as the Linrad
sound card. I know others have done this, so we just need to find
someone who will share the details. I plan to get this working this
winter with the 5000A and my new V/U module.

[Flexradio] vac sample rate

2010-10-23 Thread wa3qpx
I need to have vac operate at 96000 with Flex. Flex only offers a max
sample rate of 48000 from a drop down menu on main screen. Vac is capable
of 96000. Sample rate is needed to send info to an eme decoding program
which requires 96000. I talked to Greg at Dallas eme convention and
introduced him to Joe Taylor the author of the program I am trying to use.
Joe also wrote wsjt and WSPR program featured on the cover of this month's

Re: [Flexradio] Panadapter horizontal scaling

2010-10-23 Thread Graham Haddock
Rich:

I assume you use the "Zoom" control, just under the panadaptor screen.
Then you can use the "Center" control next to it.

Maximum panadaptor span is approximately equal to the sampling rate, 49, 96,
or 192 kHz on your radio.
It is slightly wider with SR (Spur Reduction) turned off.

You can also reduce the IF frequency (in SetUp/Expert Mode) to something
like
3000 Hz to move the receive carrier position to closer to the mathematical
center
of the panadaptor screen.

Re: [Flexradio] Panadapter horizontal scaling

2010-10-23 Thread jim
Another idea for an enhancement would be to lock the DDS (as tough we were
doing a demo playback) and allow the user to move the tuning around in the
bandpass.

My guess is that this might be relatively simple via the spur reduction
code, just stop the spur reduction from updating the DDS ?

Flex'ers,

Rig=Flex5K; PSDR=1.18; latest drivers and firmware.

Question: I wish to change the horizontal scaling of the panadapter so more
bandwidth is seen. Even at the widest (0.5) display setting I can't see the
target frequencies that I wish to view. In "setup; display" you can change
vertical scaling, but I don't see where you can change horizontal scaling.
Additionally, sometimes the signal I'm receiving (C91DL for example) is
working split up 10 and I want to see the signals that are 8 to 12 up, but
they're off the screen!

[Flexradio] bands opening today already

2010-10-23 Thread Brian Lloyd
I am already copying WWV on 20MHz from my QTH near Sacramento and it is not
even 8AM local. Right now I am able to copy WWV on all frequencies, i.e.
2.5MHz, 5MHz, 10MHz, 15MHz, and 20MHz. I am also able to copy WWVH on 2.5-15
MHz. The carrier of WWV is -53dBm on 15MHz. I am not used to 20m being open
this early.

Re: [Flexradio] Help needed: Flex 5000C Remote

2010-10-23 Thread scottw3tx
I'm re-posting this because the server compacted my component diagram:
Please help...N2NY will be undergoing heart surgery very soon, and I need
some direct advice to help get his Flex5000C up and running for remote
control so that he can use his station during convalesence. His station, on
a big hill, is 1/2 mile from his home (which is in the valley) and he will
not be able to trek up to the shack for some time (probably all winter). I
am very familiar with remoting traditional radios in this regard, but I am
not familiar with SDR's The goal is to make the system as reliable as
possible. The current setup is as follows:
Incoming Fixed IP service=>Linksys 8 port router.
Linksys 8 port router==>Serial device server==>Green Heron RT20
rotor controller (using PST Rotor).
Linksys 8 port router==>Ooma internet telephone===>Glentek Audio Hybrid
(I do not have the audio link working yet)=>IC7800.
Linksys 8 port router==>K1EL WinKeyer.
Linksys 8 port router==>serial device server==>IC7800.
Linksys 8 port router==>Flex500C Flex 5000C and Icom 7800==>Icom
IC1KL amplifier===>CT17 level converter ==>Three (3) SteppIR
controller.
At Larry's request I am removing the IC7800 from the system (he prefers the
Flex5000C)
Here are my questions:
1). What is the most reliable way to control the 5000C remotely from his
"outside the shack" laptop? Should the PowerSDR software be installed and
run on the laptop? Or should his laptop simply mirror the 5000C's computer
(if so, which mirroring software is most reliable)?
2). Can the incoming CW and SSB enter, and the outgoing audio leave, the
5000C's soundcard directly through it's LAN connection to/from the router,
or must these be done through the 5000C's front-panel Mic and Headphone
connectors (via the GlenTek unit), and K1EL WinKeyer? Again, which is most
reliable? If directly from the LAN into the 5000C what additional software
will I need to accomplish this?
3). What is recommended for the SSB link to/from? Skype on both the 5000C
computer and laptop, IPSound, other? Right now the shack has the Ooma
internet telephone service, but if using skype or IPSound will be more
reliable then I would prefer to use the most reliable.
4). Can the 5000C directly connect to the CT17 so that the IC1KL and SteppIR
controllers follow the frequency?
5). What have I not asked?
N2NY and I thank you in advance for your help.
