Re: [Flexradio] Attempting to run PowerSDR remotely

2011-03-19 Thread Mike WA8BXN
Tom,

With the remote desktop program I use (teamviewer) , doing things at the
remote computer (not connected to the radio) is just the same as doing them
at the computer that does have the radio connected. The permissions I have
on the radio computer are the ones I have at the remote computer. There is
just no difference if I am at the keyboard/display with the radio, or at a
remote computer remotely accessing the desktop.

Perhaps trying a different remote desktop program would be helpful.
Teamviewer is free and easy to use.

I am trying to run everything on the computer with the radio attached to it.
I sort of assumed, after playing with the remote MixW software with the
THEON package, that it was better to just let it run everything on the one
computer. I don't even care about the sound, I don't need to listen to the
high pitched squeal of PSK31, I just need to be able to see the waterfall.

My gut feeling is that by logging in remotely, even though the account has
admin privileges attached to it, the policies are getting in the way. I don
t even get the standard options for connecting the regular windows sound
system to HRD but that may be because the remote computer sucked up the
audio ports, which just gave me an idea.

The virtual Com program seems to be pretty happy. VAC on one end is working
but for whatever reason isn't running at a level that will allow it to
attache to multiple programs, only PowerSDR which gets started first.

I am figuring that there is some setting, or VAC isn't running correctly, or
something that is causing a problem.

By the way, the network is an Apple Airport Wifi. The computer with the Flex
1500 attached is the only computer that is directly connected to the Airport
everything else is going over WiFi. Performance of the PowerSDR over the
network using Remote Desktop is pretty good, the display seems to keep up
with the waterfall and there isn't much jerkiness.

It is interesting that remote desktop from my Panasonic running Windows 7,
the iMac running Windows 7, or the iMac running Microsoft's RDC software all
behave the same so it pretty much points to logging into the computer and
not having the correct privileges. I haven't tried my Windows XP based
notebook but it is the only other computer that is running XP that I can
experiment with.

What this means is that you need to install and set up VSP Manager, and then
create some comm port pairs for communication between PowerSDR and your
radio control program.

Gerald has stated several times that there will be no new features added to
PowerSDR 2.0.x as it is "feature complete", so no there will be no new
enhancements in PowerSDR 2.0.x. All new enhancements will have to be in a
future version of PowerSDR (2.1.x or greater).

Actually, theFLX-3000 does have memories that remember the necessary LC
values for any frequency that you can transmit on. It even has the facility
to remember them for a particular antenna! I have my memories configured
for my dipole, loop and 6m moxon. Check out the ATU form accessible from

John,

The ATU in the FLEX-5000 has 16,000 memories and a frequency counter to
select the memory. You will need to use Memory Tune on the ATU form.

I just got an SB-200. My plan is to modify the keying circuit in the SB-200
to make it compatible with open-collector TTL levels. Then it won't matter
what rig the SB200 is connected to. ;-)

An even better possibility that Flex might consider is to remember ATU settings
by frequency, not just band. My SGC and LDG tuners do this and remember the
tuning parameters for the last few hundred frequencies tuned, regardless of
band. When I transmit on (or near) one of these, the tuner automatically sets
the tuning values. An option for Flex would be to also do this on receive, but
it should be possible to disable the option.
