[Flexradio] 6m FM - deadband?

2011-06-19 Thread Michael Ruttenberg
Hi all

I'm on 6m (51.530Mhz) with a Flex 3000 and I am seeing 6m deadband below
the ferquency output on VFO A.

What does this mean and how do I make it use NFM. This is a working
frequency in the UK (bandplan 50-52Mhz).

I have never tried operating in that part of the band, but just tuning
there now it says the same thing as you see.
However, it looks like just an info text, as there doesn't seem to be
any restriction on transmitting there. I can get full power out on FMN
across that band segment.
As for the text, I imagine it may have something to do with a guard-band
between repeater in/out and simplex frequencies. I am not familiar with
the US bandplan in that frequency range.

The text can be modified by editing the database.

2011-06-19 Thread Ray, K9DUR
According to the 6m bandplan on the ARRL website, 51.5-51.6 MHz is FM
Simplex (6 channels). I have found other band plans online that list
nothing between 51.48 MHz 51.62 MHz. This is one of the frequency ranges
in 6m listed as Deadband in the database. In any event, the text is for
reference only can be changed by judicious editing of the BandText table
in the database.

[Flexradio] Keying CW on Flex-3000 using Writelog and DDUtil

2011-06-19 Thread Michael Therrien
Radio is Flex-3000 with Windows XP, PDSR 2.0.22, VSP Manager and DDUtil.

Just abandoned Vcom today and went to VSP Manager and configured DDUtil. I
have Fldigi working perfectly in this environment, DXbase working OK and
Writelog is communicating fine as well. However, I cannot seem to get
Writelog to key the radio for CW. Looked in various reflector archives and
the KB but the only reference I could find is in the KB that is a bit dated
and presumably before the DDUtil era. I understand how to configure as is
discussed in that KB article but not how to do this using DDUtil. I have
experimented a bit but still no joy.

If anyone has some experience, would appreciate the help. Thinking about
dabbling in Field Day. Maybe I should be looking at N1MM?

Re: [Flexradio] Keying CW on Flex-3000 using Writelog and DDUtil

2011-06-19 Thread Stu Phillips
Michael,

It takes me some experimentation every time I set up Writelog to do CW so here
we go... this time I get to write it down too!

WL keying is handled without pass through via DDUtil.

You will need two Virtual Serial Port pairs - one for radio control, the other
for keyer control.

Let's use COM10/COM18 and COM11/COM19

Let's assume that we are using COM10/18 as the RCP link between DDUtil and
Writelog. On the RCP tab of DDUtil, configure COM18 and RCP2 (you can use any
of the RCP entries).

Start Writelog and open the Port Setup page (Tools menu, Ports)...

Step 1 - configure the CAT support so WL knows what mode/frequency its on.

- Set the first radio line as:

COM10 as the comm port.
CW check box - unchecked
Rig type = Kenwood
Baud rate = default
Poll - checked
Comm PTT - NO

Step 2 - configure the keyer support

- Set the second radio line as:

COM11 as the comm port
CW check box - checked
Rig Type - No Rig
Baud rate - default
Poll - checked
Comm PTT - Yes

Step 3 - tell WL to generate CW

Set CW Keyer Type to PC Generates

Step 4 - set the PTT control

Click on the CW PTT button
Check - Command Rig on COM port
Set PTT to CW Delay - 20 or 30 milliseconds

Step 5 - configure PowerSDR Setup via the Setup menu item

a) On the CAT Control tab, insure that PTT control is NOT enabled - you do this
by clearing RTS and DTR in the dialog.

b) On the DSP/Keyer tab, set the Connections controls as :

Primary - Radio
Secondary - COM19
PTT Line - DTR
Key Line - RTS

Click on Apply and you should be DONE

It would be easier to show this with screen shots but the reflector strips out
screen shots - I'm sending you a separate email message with screen shots from
my set up so you can see whats going on.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Re: [Flexradio] Parallel Port for F3K

2011-06-19 Thread Bret Mills
One thing I would like to comment on a Parallel Port on the newer computers.
Some mother boards actually have a Parallel port on them but NO Cable / DB25
connector output to the case.

I have 3 different computers that have this and I found some cables from
cables to go that plug right into the MB and mounts to the computer case
giving me a standard DB-25 Parallel Port.

You can look in your Hardware and see if you see in the Device Manager (COM
LPT) a Printer Port (LPT1) then chances are YOU HAVE a Parallel port
already.

Now you want to pop the case and look and see if you have Pin's in your
motherboard where the LPT is located if you do then your ALL set, just
order up a Cable from your Mother board manufacture or Possible Cables to
Go Plug it in, Mount the DB25 in the back of the case and your done.

Hope this helps some one out.

Bret makes a very good point. This is also true of IEEE ports. If you build
your own computer, check your mobo for headers and/or your documentation for
info. Note also that the mobo came with a driver disk; install them, don't
take the windows defaults.

Even though IEEE-A is obsolete in the sense that few or no new gadgets will
be using it, many mother boards being made today have headers on board that
can be brought out via a cable to a connector at the back; same with
parallel ports. A key advantage of using the on-board ports is that if the
proper drivers are installed, you can be sure they'll work!

I haven't seen a motherboard in ages that didn't include headers for a
serial port, parallel port, several USB ports and sometimes 1394. The
problem is that none of them use the same header spacings for the ports,
plus stick them so far away from where the slot strips are on the computer
case that it would require 16 cables or more to access them. I have drawers
of serial and parallel wiring adapters that will not work on any motherboard
I use.

You have to wonder why they went to all the trouble to engineer these ports
and then make them unusable.

[Flexradio] [FlexRadio] Parallel Port for F3K

2011-06-19 Thread Don
Bill

I don’t know anything about the device you listed but if you check the Flex.WiKi
There is an area for known good parallel printer ports. You are correct not
all of the newer
printer ports will work especially if you are using Windows 7 – 64. Anyway I’m
using a SIIG
2S1P Combo board. P/N JJ-P2-S5 with a F3K. However the device that you
mention
has what appears to be an advantage to me. I like the built in LED’s. Perhaps
the best thing
to do might be to contact the company. Considering some of there other product
I’m sure they
can tell you if it will work or not. Just make sure you tell them everything.
What you want to
do and what operating system etc

Good Luck

Don
