Re: [Flexradio] Ver 2.1.5: FM mode + squelch = high CPU utilization

2011-07-24 Thread William H. Fite
Same situation here, Alan. It goes up maybe 8%-10% when the squelch is set
above threshold. No noticeable effect on either PSDR or the (usually
several) other apps I have running at the same time.

My installation of version 2.1.5 went very smoothly, and it's working
great, however, I have run into one anomaly:

Using a fresh database, while operating in FM mode, when the squelch
slider is moved above the threshold point, my CPU utilization rises from
20% to 70%. At that level PowerSDR becomes very sluggish. Dropping the
squelch level down below the threshold returns the CPU utilization back
to its normal 20% level. Switching to any other mode also drops the CPU
utilization back down to around 20%. Engaging TX also drops the CPU
utilization to roughly 20%. Engaging the squelch in any other mode does
not cause the issue. All the settings in the database are at the
default, except for ANT which is switched to ANT3 for my 6 meter antenna.

 Any thoughts?

On my system the CPU utilization varies from one second to the next
wherever the squelch slider is set. With the audio unsquelched it varied
from 3.1% to 13.1%; with it squelched it varied from 9.7% to 19.6%. So, yes,
a slight increase, but nothing like the CPU load you reported.

I kept getting an error message saying the
PowerSDR_2.1.5_Suite_Setup.exe file could not be found.

Even though I went to that subfolder and it was there.
Finally, I right clicked and after selecting Run as administrator, the

Now I'm the only user and administrator so not sure why this happens
with every beta and release version.

It's probably a setting that I incorrectly made.
Anybody no how I can fix that?

[Flexradio] SDRDataTransfer Will Not Transfer Memories in PowerSDR v2.1.5

2011-07-24 Thread Ray, K9DUR
Due to a change in the way memories are stored starting with PowerSDR
v2.1.5, SDRDataTransfer will NOT transfer any memories that you may have set
up in earlier versions of PowerSDR. It will continue to transfer memory
data between PowerSDR versions prior to v2.1.5.

Currently, I have no plans to make SDRDataTransfer transfer the memory data
to PowerSDR v2.1.5. Not only was the memory data moved out of the main
database into a separate file, the structure of the data was radically
changed. This makes it impractical to convert the old memory to the new
memory format.

However, this is only a one-time inconvenience. Starting with PowerSDR
v2.1.5, the memories are now stored in a separate file which is common to
all installations of PowerSDR. This means that any new version of PowerSDR
that you may install in the future will access the same memory data file.
Also, if you have more than one radio (e.g. - both a FLEX-1500 a
FLEX-5000), both radios will access the same memory data.

I think there should be a memory button on all the modes and band screens!
Just click the button and see simply a list of all the frequencies or call
signs and be able to click on one and have it come up... If I have hundreds
of memory entries there should be a scroll bar to see them all. And a sort
utility... I see no reason to have the Memory Interface window open each
time to select a memory. Then have to click the memory and then click
select. It is clumsy.

Re: [Flexradio] Memory Selection 2.1.5 is poor

2011-07-24 Thread Michael M. Moore
I just got the update installed today (very clean no issues) and am still
doing some minor tweeks, however if you have a 2m memory item seleted the
box in the lower right will work for other selections until you go to an HF
memory item. Once you do that the box changes so that capability is not
there. I think a box update to add that capability to all modes will work
wonderfully. At least that is my 2c worth at this point.

My thanks to the Flex team for the great update! I am still trying to learn
what a fantastic tool this is. My limitation is this is my first HF rig and
I have a big learning curve there. A tutorial DVD (even for sale) would be
a great boon to those of us try to learn how to effectivly use it in all
modes effectivly (especially newbies), plus the options.

I agree! It is a very clumsy process.

Also it would be nice to have the Windows text shortcuts available,
such as

cut, copy, and paste.

The Memory Selection in version .5 is fatal to an operator that
changes hf

any recommendation for Amplifier Keying Relay Buffer acom 1000 and flex
 5000a?

Check with Acom but I don't think a buffer is required. You should be able
to connect the keying output of the 5000 directly to the Key In jack on
the back of the Acom 1000.

You can check to make sure it won't hurt the 5000 by using a multimeter.
First put the multimeter into voltage mode and measure the voltage from the
center of Key In to ground. As long as it is less than 50V it will be safe
for the 5000 to key.

Next switch the multimeter to read amps. Again connect from center contact
of the Acom 1000 Key In to ground. The amp will key and will show you the
current needed to key the amp. If the keying current is 400mA or less, it is
safe to key with the 5000.

Remember: +50VDC max on the Key In jack, 400mA max on the Key In jack.

Re: [Flexradio] Ver 2.1.5: FM mode + squelch = high CPU utilization

2011-07-24 Thread Bill Tynan

Alan:

Now that I have 2.1.5 working, I tried out the FM squelch. I confirm what
you say. My CPU utilization runs about 15% in SSB unsquelched or squelched.
On FM, it runs about the same unsquelched but about 40 to 45 squelched. For
me, this is not much of a problem as I don't use my 5000 on FM anyway.

BTW, with 2.0.22 my CPU utilization ran in the 20s (abt 10 points higher
than with 2.1.5) with some peaks up to over 90%.
I haven't yet seen these peaks with 2.1.5 but it's only been running an hour
or so.

So,
yes, a slight increase, but nothing like the CPU load you reported.
