Re: [Flexradio] FlexRadio Digest, Vol 81, Issue 24

2012-01-24 Thread William H. Fite
That's a good suggestion. The SSD, I mean.

Comes down to why you want a second drive. If more capacity, yank the
old one and put in a larger one. If RAID (can't imagine why, but
anyway...) use an external drive* or take out the HD and replace with
two SSDs, which will occupy the same or less space.

*Velcro the drive to the side or back of the case. Some will say that
all the drives in a RAID array should be same make, model, and size
but I have mixed and matched for years without problems.

Since the computer in the 5000c is dedicated to the radio, I would
consider replacing the rotating drive with an SSD to make it start
faster, be quieter, use less power, and generate less heat.

The disk is mounted on an aluminum plate which is thumb-screwed to the
bottom of the chassis that has the motherboard on it.

Normally, its not as simple as adding a second drive (like in a normal
computer case). If you are willing to do some creative work, I am sure you
could probably find a way to do it however.

Re: [Flexradio] I see "CQ" in the waterfall

2012-01-24 Thread Jim Jannuzzo

Dave, This is a "Video ID" . It's on the Modes + ID's tab in HRD/ DM780.
Takes some bandwidth to do, so some prefer not to have to look at it for
common, easy to identify modes like PSK. If you call CQ on an unusual mode,
however, the Video ID tells the whole world how to respond. Jim KJ2P

[Flexradio] I see "CQ" in the waterfall

2012-01-24 Thread dave dabay

I have seen several stations calling CQ on BPSK31, and you can read
"CQ" on the waterfall prior to the signal...

How?

I have so much to learn. I got my 1550 late last summer and have just
scratched the surface on what the rig will do. This old dog has
learned rtty, BPSK, how to distinguish several other digital modes by
sound and water fall, fldig, VAC, VSPE, and of course PSDR.

I have cleaned up my PC so it works almost 100% and I have ordered a
second video card, so I can have fldigi, PSDR, and the logbook all
open and still see them.

Awesome rig, great, service, and wonderful people on this forum

I think his interest was in whether the motherboard would support
another drive and if there was room for it in the case.

On the Windows screen, click on Start (bottom left of the screen), click on
My Computer. This gives you a list of all drives.
