Re: [Flexradio] New Release

2012-02-24 Thread N7BCP
It's a communication channel with nearly a billion (think Dr. Evil)
active users that can now discover Flex Radio. Im glad Flex set up a social
spot where bandwidth is used to share photos and video of our stations and
general chit-chat is the point. Participation is, of course, optional.

Re: [Flexradio] PowerSDR fails to start, has errors

2012-02-24 Thread Dale Taylor
Wow, so I just tried a few things and here's my results (no it's not fixed)

I completely uninstalled the FlexRadio drivers and the PowerSDR software.
I also went and manually deleted C:\Users\MyName\App Data\Roaming\Flex
Radio Systems. The offending files seemed to be in there.

After deleting everything and rebooting I installed the software again.

This time the software worked and I loaded my previous settings without
issue.

I shut down the software, rebooted and went to run it all again and now I
see the very same error again. Wild, this isn't caused by some boot
without closing problem. I did a normal shutdown of the software and then
it won't run a 2nd time.

Any clues are appreciated... bummer

You might try a system restore, go back a day before the update and you
should have everything back. Also I suggest that you change your computers
automatic updates to notify me but don't automatically download or install
them. In other words do your updates manually when you have Power SDR off.
Hope that helps.

I've never had any problems with my Flex setup until now. It appears
something has happened to the PowerSDR software. I might have had a system
update and a reboot or some such thing but was not aware of it. I get the
following 2 errors. I did some searching for filename doesn't exist errors

Subject: [Flexradio] Behringer DEQ2496 RFI Spikes

I have tried cheater plugs with no luck. I have ferrites on everything. I
have chokes on my antenna line, both directly outside my shack and at the
33' vertical antenna base. If I lay my mic / headset on my desk, the
spikes
go away. As soon as I touch the headsets, the spikes come back. I use a
Heil

foot switch for PTT. I even tried audio transformers on both the headset
audio and mic inputs. It seems "I am in the ground loop"..

Original Post

with my Flex 5000A. My shack is on the second floor of my house so RFI is
a
constant problem. Using only my Behringer Xenyx802 mixer board and my
5000A
there are no major RFI problems. I have isolated the 802 from the
ballanced
line input on the 5000A with a Jensen JT-11P-1 audio transformer. When I
add
the DEQ2496 I get an RFI spike at about 2~3 Hz. I can see the spike on
both
the 5000A panadapter and on an oscilloscope tapped at my 811H amp output.
I
have tried various audio isolation techniques but no joy. The spiking is
the

most pronounced with the amp on. Has anyone encountered this issue and
solved this problem ? if so please advise.>

Re: [Flexradio] New Release

2012-02-24 Thread W6SDM Steve
I was digging through a dumpster out behind the Flex Radio offices and came
upon the following information scrawled on a notepad, heavily stained by
what looked like a chili-cheese burrito. It appears that these forward
looking statements may give us some insight into what to expect from the
next release of power SDR.

Integrated data decoder utility very much like DDUtil only with 32 control
ports and the ability to switch between three different rigs. The rotor
control window also has settings to interface with a garage door opener and
a beer dispenser.

Voice to CW converter. When the selected mode is USB or LSB and VFO-A is
in the CW portion of any band, speak into the mic and PSDR sends out
perfect code, speed and weight adjustable by the operator. No-code extras
will now be know-code extras.

Automatic Error Detection with Instant Online Support. As soon as a crash
or error is detected, a Skype video call is instantly made by PSDR to Tim
or Dudley’s office, home, or cell phone. You don’t even need to be in the
shack – Team Viewer pops up and they just fix whatever went wrong, sending
you an e-mail when it’s all better.

Support for a new wireless Flex Control device identical to the Nintendo
Wii. Now you can work that 20-meter pileup and take a few inches off that
gut at the same time.

So there you have it. ICOM, Yaesu, and Kenwood owners eat your heart out!

73,

Steve

[Flexradio] Behringer DEQ2496 RFI Spikes

2012-02-24 Thread Mark Weidhaas
I have tried cheater plugs with no luck. I have ferrites on everything. I
have chokes on my antenna line, both directly outside my shack and at the
33' vertical antenna base. If I lay my mic / headset on my desk, the spikes
go away. As soon as I touch the headsets, the spikes come back. I use a Heil
foot switch for PTT. I even tried audio transformers on both the headset
audio and mic inputs. It seems "I am in the ground loop"..

Here is what I've done with excellent results for the 600+ meter band.

I have two Clifton Labs filters, one is the BCB reject filter mentioned below
and a second custom low pass filter I had made by Clifton La bs with a 3 dB
corner at 85 0 KHz. This second filter allows my Flex 5000A to cover the low
end of the BCB with no images, down to 500 KHz from about 850 KHZ where the
images appear to start up pretty badly.

As noted by Jordan, the BCB band reject filter still allows stuff from above
the BCB to to get in and produce lots of false signals below 500 KHz. I can
hear 160M amateur signals there with the BCB reject filter in. When I run both
the 830KHz low pass filter and the BCB reject filter in series, ALL the false
signals and images go away. Nothing left but actual signals from 500 KHz down
to about 250 KHz where images from below 500 KHz begin to start up. I think
another low pass filter at around 275 KHz would allow reception down lower yet.

With all these filters, I think a down converter is probably best in the end.

from weak power supplies...yes; a couple of Ferrite Blocks will take care of

I have been trying to integrate a Behringer DEQ2496 into my audio chain with
my Flex 5000A. My shack is on the second floor of my house so RFI is a
constant problem. Using only my Behringer Xenyx802 mixer board and my 5000A
there are no major RFI problems. I have isolated the 802 from the ballanced
line input on the 5000A with a Jensen JT-11P-1 audio transformer. When I add
the DEQ2496 I get an RFI spike at about 2~3 Hz. I can see the spike on both
the 5000A panadapter and on an oscilloscope tapped at my 811H amp output. I
have tried various audio isolation techniques but no joy. The spiking is the
most pronounced with the amp on. Has anyone encountered this issue and
