[Flexradio] FLDIGI soundcard settings.

2012-03-15 Thread David Walker
Hi folks,

I have VAC 4.11 working. No problems now.

The soundcard settiings for FLDIGI show AUTO, and a range of other sample rate
settings. Should I set fldigi to AUTO or 48000?

Cheers,

Dave

In my tests it works with com1-com9. I suppose it could have changed but
the version of WSPR I am running will work with com ports through com9.

[Flexradio] Upgrading to VAC 4.11

2012-03-15 Thread Bill Tynan
Dave Gomberg,, NE5EE wrote:

As was patiently explained to me, what you need to do is find the URL
that you used to download 4.09, change the 409 in the URL to 411,
and download again. What you get is a zip file containing
everything you need to install 4.11 after you uninstall 4.09

Does that help?

OK, but what does 4.11 do that 4.09 doesn't do? Is it worthwhile to upgrade?

And what should be used to uninstall 4.09. I had a bad experience with the
Trial version using Windows Control Panel and Add/Remove Programs. When I
bought and downloaded the Licensed version, it said to uninstall ALL previous
versions of VAC. Add/Remove Programs does NOT do a complete job and left some
pieces of the Trial version. Therefore, the Licensed version would NOT load. I
got a lot of help from a friendly Flexer and the problem was solved.

But, does one need to use something like Revo to remove the old version?

Thanks for the help.

Silly me!

When I uninstalled VAC 4.09, Windows reset the defaults on the VAC lines to
44.1 KHz. After I switched them back to 48KHz, the spectrum went back to
normal.

You would have used a simple audio patch cable instead. Actually, that

Re: [Flexradio] DC on Headphones

2012-03-15 Thread Jim Barber
This is just idle speculation, but I'll guess that the headphone amp is
single-ended, so uses a fairly large coupling cap for good bass response
with low-impedance headphones. Large coupling cap = big "pop" when first
plugging the cans in.

Again, idle speculation but if someone with a service manual took a look
it would be interesting to know if it turned out to be true.

Now, this DC is only present if PowerSDR is running and the headphone is

Absolutely you can. Just configure CWskimmer for the WDM-KS driver and
192K. You will need to set the radio's sampling rate to 192K also, as
Direct IQ is directly dependent on the radio's native sampling rate.

Re: [Flexradio] WSPR and CAT

2012-03-15 Thread Michael Walker
I just tested this and it worked.

2.3.5 Psdr
1.03 VSP Manager
TS2000 emulation on PSDR
Com port 4

I have to test and see if I can get it to work with DDUTIL. It 'should'.

This boils down to the fact that the PTT line can be up to 15, but the Rig
Control can only go up to Com 8.

The Wiki should get updated.

Nice catch!

[Flexradio] VAC 4.11 - Working Well Here

2012-03-15 Thread Jerry Falletta
I uninstalled 4.09 and installed 4.11; everything seemed to go smoothly. Like
others here, my old settings from 4.09 remained intact (with the new box to be
"unchecked" per Tim's recommendation).

At first, I was only getting five watts output with the same settings, but then
re-booted a couple of times, not the power output on digital modes is back to
normal (~30 watts)... another one of those cases in which it starts working and
one wonders why, other than the re-boot, of course.

Good stuff (and thanks again to the Flex crew)! :)

Re: [Flexradio] FlexRadio Digest, Vol 83, Issue 15

2012-03-15 Thread Al K0VM

Mike,
I have discover why my WSPR CAT stopped working... Change of CAT
port...
Although WSPR shows all available COM ports, rigctl only supports COM1
thru COM8..

COM9 and higher fail with an error...

( for others with WSPR CAT problems, try a com port less than COM 9...
rigctl is a shim that WSPR uses for sending CAT commands to PSDR [or
DDUTil ] )

  Hope this helps...

Mike,
PORTMON normally shows the opening/closing activity as well as the
traffic. So my conclusion is that rigctl is not getting as far as
opening the correct port ( or any port ?? )

Re: [Flexradio] 2.3.5 TX Profile Mic Boost Setting

2012-03-15 Thread Jim Jannuzzo

Joe,I just tried it, and Mic Boost does not change with the new TX profile.
Looks like that one was left out. However, the new profiles do include the
selection of Mic in the Mixer. I have two mics, a headset boom mic in rear
(balanced) and a desk boom mic in front. I have Mic Boost enabled for both,
and must cut the output of the Balanced Line In the Mixer to about half. So
yes, you can use two mics, keep Mic Boost enabled, and use other parts of the

Re: [Flexradio] VAC 4.11 on WinXP

2012-03-15 Thread Tim Ellison
The new driver uses a streaming architecture rather than an interrupt /
DPC architecture. This ensures that VAC transfers the bit-perfect audio
stream between PowerSDR and your third-party sound card based
application more efficiently and doesn't drop audio buffers like
previous versions.

Re: [Flexradio] VAC 4.11 Install notice

2012-03-15 Thread Tim Ellison, W4TME
Here is the deal. We need to publish a set of parameters compatible
with all of our radios, so the lowest common denominator is the
FLEX-1500 which runs at 48 kHz. So we are going to maintain that the
default sampling rate for the VAC cable from a Windows perspective is
48kHz. PowerSDR will over-ride that and set the cable sampling rate to
what ever you set it at unless the digital mode programs forces it to
something different. In the case of the later condition, it is best to
have the sampling rate at an even multiple of 48, 96 & 192, so 48 kHz is
still the best fall back default.

Tim,

Shortly after 2.3.5 came out, there were list discussions about taking
advantage of the higher VAC sampling rates, and changing the default cable
SR to 192 kHz from the 48 kHz in the KB article. There are 16 and 24 bit
"Studio Quality" selections. Is there an official Flex do/don't on going to
higher cable rates?

When you uninstall the old version of VAC to install the new one,
Windows will change the default sampling rate of the VAC cable to 44.1
kHz, so you will need to reconfigure them for 48 kHz

See the following KB article for info on how to do it.
