Re: [Flexradio] Looking to buy a 1500 and for some advice

2012-06-17 Thread Lester Veenstra
The only performance shortcoming I have seen is the ability to act as a “band
Scanner” when a really strong signal comes up off freq but in band. But at
least that is down in the background noise level and never a real issue. Even
some times useful to let me go check on what is going on.

Re: [Flexradio] Audio Question - Leveler ALC Time Constant Values

2012-06-17 Thread Tom, DF2LH
Hello Steve

today (sri..) i read your mail. I think it is a good idea to make a
comparison of the used settings. So here are mine:

Leveler: Max Gain 1 (dB), Attack Time 2 (mS), Decay Time 200 (mS),
and Hang Time 200 (mS)
ALC: Attack Time 2 (mS), Decay Time 10 (mS), and Hang Time 100 (mS)

Mostly DX'ing :-)

[Flexradio] Looking to buy a 1500 and for some advice

2012-06-17 Thread Kevin Whitcomb

Thanks for all the advice in this thread and those of you who contacted me
directly. I have to admit that the strong opinions (much appreciated) both ways
have left me a little confused on exactly what to do. I guess the smart thing
is to wait and save up for a 3000 although there's a 1500 that just came up for
sale locally here in Denver that's a good deal. I have a few months before a
mission to Africa so I guess I still have time to work all this out.

[Flexradio] Switching ancillary gear with PSDR

2012-06-17 Thread Patrick Greenlee
I'm in information overload (and loving it, mostly.) Could some of you hitech
gurus point me toward where the most understandable explanation of how to use
PSDR to remotely switch equipment would be found? The good news is I have a
new Flex Radio (5K) and the not so good news is my shack under development to
house it is on the second floor. So... I'm investigating artificial grounds and
related topics.

I'm thinking it should be relatively straight forward to tune my ground
connection from shack to grounds rod(s) to series resonance for each band or
sub band of interest with a little fiddling to construct a collection of fixed
artificial grounds and select the one to use automatically with PSDR. I can
easily handle the tuning of the individual artificial grounds but need a little
nudge in the right direction (OK picked up and bodily thrown toward) the info
for getting PSDR to do that automatically for me.

First respondent with an answer approved by a simple majority of contest judges
will have their name or call sign entered into a drawing where they may qualify
to win a swell prize.

Re: [Flexradio] Switching ancillary gear with PSDR

2012-06-17 Thread Jim Jannuzzo

I am not a hirech guru. But that hasn't stoppped me from ponitificating
before. You want to connect DDutil to PowerSDR. DDu has the capability to
switch hardware things by band or by macro. You connect it to PSDR with a
virtual serial cable. There are a couple of good VSP programs, such as VSPE
and VSPmgr. VSPmgr is written by the author of DDutil, Streve Nance. DDu can
switch antenna switches, and a few auxiliary switches. Review it at k5fr.com,
and find the Yahoo group, to see what hardware can be switched. Are you
satisfied with artificial grounds?Jim KJ2P
