paim, A website called anandtech.com includes a test of dpc latency when it tests motherboards. Here is a recent review of many z77 and Z87 motherboards: http://www.anandtech.com/show/6989/intel-z87-motherboard-review-with-haswell-gigabyte-msi-asrock-and-asus-at-200/19 . As you know, choice of a motherboard has many factors to consider, like the CPU chip you're using. Rather than spend 700 pounds on a motherboard you don't know, you may want to just pick one of the motherboards/CPU combos tested by Neal. Re: [Flexradio] [FlexEdge] Asrock X79 Extreme11 any one ?
The current combo I am using in my DXers Dream Computer is especially potent. The article Jim references doesn't obviously tweak the bios settings as I see a better DPC performance with the Haswell CPU/motherboard than I could get with the Ivy bridge CPU. I am using the i7-4770 with the Asrock Z87 Pro4 motherboard. Of course I cannot guarantee your success with these (unless you buy them from me!) 73 Neal Campbell Abroham Neal LLC On Sun, Jul 28, 2013 at 11:35 AM, Jim Jannuzzo jsqu...@msn.com wrote: paim, A website called anandtech.com includes a test of dpc latency when it tests motherboards. Re: [Flexradio] USB/RS232 adapter
I’m as new as can be to ham radio, but I’ve been a computer hobbyist for years. If I wanted to source a part like this, I would go to Newegg.com, search for the part and order by best rating. Many of the parts will have no ratings. Read the reviews for the parts that do, and look for hints suggest this might not be the one you want. Parts like this come from a very limited number of suppliers -- markup is very low -- so name brands don’t mean a lot. But I would expect to see SIIG, StarTech, SYBA, etc. Not well known names outside of the hobby. Hope this helps … Dave, KK6FCH From: Alan Corlin Sent: Sunday, July 28, 2013 12:57 To: flexradio@flex-radio.biz I have several Belkin Model F5U409 that all work fine. I have had very good luck with the Sabrent SBT-FTDI from Newegg.com. It works reliably on Windows XP, Vista, and Win7 machines. I don't have Win 8 here yet. Re: [Flexradio] USB/RS232 adapter
John, ANY of the GearMo USB/Serial adaptors are well-built, inexpensive and WORK correctly (they all use the FTDI USB~RS-232 ICs). The model I'm personally using here (I have 2 of them: one each on two different PCs) is the Model USA-FTDI4X, which is their 4-port model. They also make a 2 port model (USA-FTDI2X) and a 1-port model the FTDI-8. AVOID like the plague any USB~RS-232 adaptor that uses the Prolific IC. Even the real ones (there are tons of counterfeit Commie Chinese knockoff Prolific adaptors out there too) have issues with the handshake lines, especially on Windows 7. If you have a device that uses strictly just the TXd RXd lines, the Prolifics are OK. Best prices I've found for the GearMo adaptors is on Amazon. 73, Bill Bowen K8WHB Original Message Subject: [Flexradio] USB/RS232 adapter From: John Swink jms...@wowway.com Date: Sun, July 28, 2013 3:47 pm To: Flexradio Reflector flexradio@flex-radio.biz Can someone suggest a brand model of a USB/RS232 adapter that functions reliably? [Flexradio] Power SDR Quits!
My dad was using Power SDR version 2.3. something ... on his Flex 3000. Out of the blue it started to lockup then shut down. The run period between lockup/shut down varies quite a bit. I thought it might be an issue with his virus protection software because he had recently renewed it and had problems installing it. We have cleared up the virus software problem (Trend Micro) but Power SDR still shuts down. I upgraded him to version 2.6.4 but we still have the same problem .. any suggestions? Re: [Flexradio] Power SDR Quits!
Blue screens are hardware/driver issues and nothing to do with a virus. The can be related to memory issues as well. Sometimes just reseating the memory chips can clear up a problem like this. Most, if not all driver issues seem to have gone away and are a thing of the past. What type of firewire card are you using? Also, you don't say which operating system you are running on and how much physical memory. I have a few other ideas and they related to less memory and the page file, which is store on hard drive and a failing hard drive also contributing to similar issues. Re: [Flexradio] USB/RS232 adapter
To further add to the confusion, I gave up on the USB ones and I'm using Lantronix RS232 over IP for my remote base even though the connection is local. I just realized today that I have not had to reboot the Lantronix box in over a year. I do agree. Stay with FTDI and not Prolific.
