[Flexradio] FOR SALE: Flex5000A

2014-03-07 Thread Richard Lawn
I have a 5000A for sale with ATU. I will ship with power cord, Kenwood hand
mic, Firewire cable, disc with all manuals and software, and brand new
Inland U-Connect 3-port PCI to IEE 1394 Firewire card for WIndows and Mac
OS.

I just bought a 5000 with ATU, 2nd RX and V/U module so I no longer have a
use for this radio that has been used regularly until yesterday.

If interested email me off list at rjlawn at gmail dot com.

XP-mode will only work with Win 7 Professional, Ultimate, and Enterprise.
Also, any old 16 bit programs that worked fine in XP will not work in Win
7.

Bill,

I have two Dell U2410 24" monitors and have never had any problems when
running my Flex 5000A or several other radios. I operate all bands from
160m to 23cm and up to 500 watts output with both vertical and horizontal
antennas.

Hello all,
As I have mentioned in the past few weeks my monitor is wiping out my two
meter radio. Although I have noted been aware of it I would bet it is
getting into my 3000 as well. I have loaded this thing with ferrite beads,
cores, and clamps to everything on it short of going inside it. Well, I
give up. It is an RCA TV monitor which allows you to run the computer as
well. So, I will dump it. My question then is, what kind of Computer
monitor are you guys using that does not put out all that RF? Plasma is
bad, LED is bad, Again, what are you guys using in the 20 inch range.
Thanks Bill

A very inexpensive series of monitors that produces no noise that I
can detect (and a very pleasing picture) is the HP 2010i and HP
2011i. I am an AMer and eSSB enthusiast and very picky about having
as silent a background as possible.

Re: [Flexradio] Monitor

2014-03-07 Thread bill

I use Dell 2407wfp monitors.
I have 4 in the shack and my xyl has 2 on her computer upstairs.
Quiet as a mouse.
Do a search on ebay as there are many resellers of
returned/reconditioned equipment that sell the monitors asfor reasonable
prices.
They also have optional an attachablespeaker that connects to the bottom
of the monitor. The speakers are also available on ebay.
They are available on eBay for around $200 and I've gotten them via
bidding for less.

I don't know who manufacturers them for Dell but I've never lost a pixel.

I would suggest that you get yours running and then you will be able to
talk your friend through a checkout. If your friend lives close enough,
bring him over to try yours to see how he likes it before he buys one of
his own. I have more than twenty years' experience assisting a blind
ham buddy. I would say that his capabilities and mindset will be key to
whether or not he will be able to operate the 3000 with this device.

Good luck and bless you for helping.

You cannot directly upgrade XP to Windows 7. You can transfer items over and
so-on but that is right mess.

Best to back up EVERYTHING you want to save then do a clean install of
Windows 7, in fact, you can do a side by side install if you have a spare
drive so you can boot between XP and 7.

Note that 7 comes with "XP Mode" as a virtual add-on that allows you to run
some older programs seamlessly inside Windows 7, not all work but most do.

A clean install would be better imho, back up the Flex folders and then copy
those over to the new installs drive.

HRD will work fine in 7, you can back HRDs settings up and then install
again on 7 and restore all your data back to it.

There are a few web guides that show this in detail if your none too happy
messing about inside hidden folders etc.

When happy you can always remove the old XP drive and boot then directly
into 7 once everything works.

Not a 5 min job but worth it.

Oh, Windows 7 Professional is probably the best of the bunch. Ultimate comes
with loads you'll probably never need!

(is the DELL 64bit? If it is get the 64bit version of 7 - it's way quicker
and loves RAM!)

2014-03-07 Thread TOM BLACKWELL (nt)

Upgrade my flex computer to Windows 7

Is there a particular version of Windows 7 I should buy?

When I use a Windows 7 disk to upgrade, will the existing installation
of Power SDR and its settings remain? Or do Flex related programs have
to be reinstalled?

I am currently running XP-Pro on a Dell desktop with Firewire card. It
has an Intel quad processor.

At the same time I'll upgrade Power SDR to the most current version.
For a while I wouild like to continue to use my existing HR Deluxe that
provides display of SSTV and Packet.
