[Flexradio] Power SDR Quits!

2013-07-29 Thread Gary Franklin

A few things to add to my original post. The operating system is
Windows 7 No issue with blue screens.Power SDR first freezes,
ghosts the screen and then sends a message to close the application.
This happens randomly. It shuts down in the receive mode so rf is not
the issue It has been operating well for the past year or more with
no problems. Virus scans show no problem. He did somehow pick up
OTSHOT (hotshot) some picture sharing junk software which I have not
been able to get rid of completely. It sends several messages when you
boot up.I suspect something is running in the background that
interrupts Power SDR causing it to shut down. As I mentioned previously
I did install Power SDR 2.6.4 with no change in the problem.

My dad was using Power SDR version 2.3. something ... on his Flex
3000. Out of the blue it started to lockup then shut down. The run
period between lockup/shut down varies quite a bit. I thought it might
be an issue with his virus protection software because he had recently
renewed it and had problems installing it. We have cleared up the virus
software problem (Trend Micro) but Power SDR still shuts down. I
upgraded him to version 2.6.4 but we still have the same problem ..
any suggestions?

[Flexradio] Flex Duty Cycle

2012-08-27 Thread Gary Franklin
I understand that the Flex 3000, and 5000 are rated for 100% duty
cycle. Ok to run SSTV and long winded RTTY at full output? Any cautions??

[Flexradio] Noise Floor Flex 3000 out of wack!

2012-06-11 Thread Gary Franklin
I received many responses to my inquiry and would like to thank all
those who responded! It turned out to be a Calibration issue. After
running the calibration routine the noice floor dropped to normal
levels about -115 dbm.

Gary,K8BKB

I have received many suggestions and have cleared up a couple of the
issues below! But no one has commented on the high noise floor .
-73 dbm with no antenna attached! seems out of wack to me . any
suggestions?

Thanks

I have setup a Flex 3000 for my Dad recently. The ambient noise floor
seems to be very high. With no antenna connected it shows a -73 dbm on
the S meter. What might explain that??

Also often, but not always when I power up PSDR and turn the start
button on I get no audio for a few seconds then it goes into
convulsions. Turn the start button off then on again and it works
fine. Finally the Flex knob works great but when you spin the knob it
makes a noise or maybe it is latency. Perhaps there are some PSDR
and/or firewire parameters that need attention.

Thanks,

Gary, K8BKB

[Flexradio] Flex 500 Speakers

2012-01-21 Thread Gary Franklin

Thank you everyone!

I received many ideas for a speaker system to use with my Flex 5000. A
few of you suggested using an old stereo system. I just happen to have
one I was going to move on to greener pastures. I hooked it up to the
Flex with a nice old set of floor speakers and wow what a nice system
complete with a built in EQ which compliments the Flex EQ! Thanks again
for all the input!

[Flexradio] PSWR & Fldigi Setup

2011-06-23 Thread Gary Franklin
I am nearly 100 % operational using Fldigi digital modes with the Flex 5000.
I receive very well and I can activate the Flex 5000 from Fldigi, I get the
tones! everything I need but I also get at regular intervals a wierd
voice announcment which comes over the Flex while transmitting. What is
this and how do I turn it off!

Thanks for all the help I have received from the list!

Subject: [Bulk] [Flexradio] PSWR & Fldigi Setup

Can anyone tell me the proper settings to use for the PSDR Cat Control tab
and Fldigi Rig Cat tab to enable PTT control of PSDR with Fldigi. My last
attempt freaked out PSDR . com port issues? Improper setup on Cat
Control tab??? I don't know. I have managed to recover and get PSDR
working properly again. I have re-installed VSP manager and VAC 4.09 with
no issues. Recive works great now I need to get Rig Control working
without screwing up PSDR.

I have reviewed the Flex Wiki site instructions which are very helpful
however I can't seem to download the rig discription XML file from
W1HJK.com archives. When I double click for download I just get the file
listing??? What am I missing?

Thanks

Re: [Flexradio] All was well Until

2011-06-20 Thread Gary Franklin
Tim,

I guess the next question maybe what caused the need to reset to factory
defaults? The VAC and VSP Manager software seemed to setup as expected but it
freaked out PowerSDR. Wondering if I got something out of order while setting
up.

Reset the radio back to factory defaults using the feature in the Setup form.

Power SDR loads but even before I turn on the power the band selection switch

between WWV and 80 meters. The AGC and Drive slider controls also pulsate
between half setting to full setting alternately. It gets better when I
turn the power switch it really go bonkers! Starts scanning frequency, changes

normal operation by energizing the MOX (transmit) as long as It happens in a
ham band. This of course does not last... I can turn the power off but I
cannot exit PowerSDR with out using the Task Manager to shut down. Reboot and
power gives the same result.

I uninstalled VAC and VSP Manager no change I suspect I need to
deal with the BOX. Any suggestions before I go further.
