[Flexradio] Flex Radio Reflector question
I've noticed that if I send a submission to this list from home, all works just fine. If I access the same e-mail account via Verizon's web mail portal the posting is not received. What's strange is that it doesn't bounce back. Since I'm often on the road, this makes it impossible to post or respond. Any ideas how this can be fixed? ___ FlexRadio Systems Mailing List FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz http://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexradio_flex-radio.biz Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/flexradio%40flex-radio.biz/ Knowledge Base: http://kc.flexradio.com/ Homepage: http://www.flexradio.com/
[Flexradio] Fw: DDutil error
As a follow up to (below), Neil commented that he's seen this before and felt it was due to latest firmware not properly installing itself. He suggested I manually update the latest firmware found in the MyDocuments / 5K folder. Manually loaded 2.0.15.16 dated 5/02/2011. Still the same error mwssage. It's, as if, DDutil is not seeing RC1. Should I have uninstalled 2.0.22 before installing RC1? In advance, thanks! [Flexradio] Don't make this mistake!
I just thought of one other minor mistake I made during my upgrade. After doing the update I decided to make a few CW contacts. 5-6 calls went unanswered and I started to get worried. I use an external keyer and forgot to uncheck the "Iambic" option in the CW window. God only knows what people were trying to copy. After deselecting Iambic, my first contact on 160M was CR2X in The Azores. ___ FlexRadio Systems Mailing List FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz http://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexradio_flex-radio.biz Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/flexradio%40flex-radio.biz/ Knowledge Base: http://kc.flexradio.com/ Homepage: http://www.flexradio.com/
[Flexradio] Question about Panafall display color selection
I'm wondering if someone can explain the color display logic used by the Panafall display. On 20M I get a predominately dark blue display, much to my liking. On 80 / 40 I get a bright "lime green" background. On 160M it's predominately RED. I've tried varying the levels in the display section. This adjust the sensitivity, but really has no impact on the background color. It will vary the background color from what it is to BLACK. Low color is set to BLACK on all bands. I'd like to get all bands working like the current 20M operation is now. Re: [Flexradio] ATU Not detected
Pardon my oversight. I forgot to mention this occured with a Flex 5000A I've been using 2.0.16 since it was released. While I've been on holiday vacation my "radio activity" has been higher than normal. I've experienced a condition where upon boot up the ATU was not detected. Otherwise the radio plays fine. Turning the radio off and rebooting 2.0.16 fixes it. This has occured four times. Anyone else experience this? [Flexradio] Finding Noise
Date: Sun, 19 Dec 2010 13:29:14 -0600 From: "Brad A. Steffler" To: flexradio@flex-radio.biz Subject: [Flexradio] Waterfall and Power line noise - a secret weapon Message-ID: <4d0e5d0a.4040...@comcast.net> Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; format=flowed Thanks to all who have suggested other things to look at for as sources of noise besides the power line. Two winters ago I had some noise that only occured on very cold nights. I suspected a bad power transformer atop a pole. The problem was how to identify the pole it was on. I'd like to share the two tricks I used. You'll need a baseball bat. I went down the block listening with an AM radio. When the noise increased I whacked each pole with the baseball bat. When I hit the 3rd pole the noise immediately changed. The vibration caused the pole to vibrate which transfered into the transformer. A crude microphone! I also noticed a "red light" atop the transformer which I later learned was an "over-temp" indicator. When I called the local power company they agreed to check it. Two days later, no more noise! I received a call from one of their engineers who was amazed to hear how I found it. He commented that they had a $10K instrument for doing what I did with a baseball bat and an AM radio! ___ FlexRadio Systems Mailing List FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz http://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexradio_flex-radio.biz Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/flexradio%40flex-radio.biz/ Knowledge Base: http://kc.flexradio.com/ Homepage: http://www.flexradio.com/
[Flexradio] Audio processing chain question
Since I've not seen any block diagrams of the 5000 I'm wondering if a member of the Flex team can provide some insight on the audio processing chain. The Flex 5000 allows you to set the transmit bandwidth. It also provides an EQ that allows you to shape the audio. Many people use external EQ. I assume that the Flex design samples some specific audio frequencies to develop the average talk power, similar to conventional SSB transmitter designs. An external EQ could theoretically emphasize some parts of the audio spectrum that could excessively and unintentionally over stimulate AGC or other integral transmitter features. Is such sampling done before or after the band pass adjustment? From what I can see, it's done to the full spectrum audio (before the band pass is decided) so components of the audio that aren't getting out on the air may be affecting AGC or other related features and could degrade the audio. If this is the case, has Flex considered doing the sampling after the bandwidth has been set? [Flexradio] Regarding AM Operation
Just started using my 5000 on AM. It sounds great! Perhaps someone can explain one aspect of the proper setup. With no audio I adjust the DRIVE level to 25W (with ALC peaking at -1). According to the SDR meter, voice peaks approach 100W. 1. Where should the AM CARRIER level be set? 2. Is the AM CARRIER level the equivalent of the DRIVE level that is used for SSB operation? [Flexradio] Transverter Output Level Adj
Hopefully someone on this list is running a Transverter with their 5000 and Vers 2.0. (I also posted this in the edge reflector) Trying to run a Microwave Module 144/28R Xvtr. for this weekends VHF contest. According to the manual (for 1.18) the Xvtr out can be adjusted up to +5 dbm. I'm unable to find where this adjustment can be made. The Power setting in the transverter screen only sets the Tune level to the connsole. With the Drive set to 100, max output from the transverter is barely -17 dbm, not nearly enough to drive the transverter to full output. This tells me there has to be some hidden setting that can be increased up to the +5 dbm spec. Has anyone discovered where this illusive setting might be? Tried FRS Support and they have done their best, but I suspect they are also scratching their heads. ___ FlexRadio Systems Mailing List FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz http://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexradio_flex-radio.biz Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/flexradio%40flex-radio.biz/ Knowledge Base: http://kc.flex-radio.com/ Homepage: http://www.flex-radio.com/

[Flexradio] 5000 with Microwave Modul Transverter
I'm wondering if anyone has any experience using a Microwave Modules MMT144/28 2M transverter with a 5000 ? I've been using it on a Kenwood TS-930 and as I recall there was little to no adjustments required. I assume that Flex has to have some transverter output level adjustment? [Flexradio] CW / RTTY / SSTV program?
I'm relatively new to the Flex scene and I'm wondering what the popular program people are using for CW and RTTY? Regarding RTTY, I also do a fair amount of general RTTY monitoring so something that's also suitable for utility DX'ing would be of interest. Also wondering if anyone can suggest a program for copying SSTV? [Flexradio] AM BCB Images
Just got my 5000 and I've been doing a lot of listening. I also enjoy Broadcast Band DX'ing and I'm noticing that the AM Broadcast band performance is very poor. Local stations can be heard at many images. Is this status quo, or is there some mod to improve this? I am not hearing any AM broadcast stations in the amateur bands (thankfully!)
