[Flexradio] Vedr: Re: old sdr-1000 question

2014-10-25 Thread Stig Rasmussen
The big difference between Firebox and FA-66 is that FA-66 is capable of 192Khz
sampling frequency, and the you have a much wider panadapter.Firebox can do
128Khz but is best at 64KHz.

My SDR-1000/Presonus combo worked very well for several years before I
moved on to the Flex 5000. The combo provided many hours of fun and
enjoyment when I first got envolved with software defined radio.

Hi and thanks for the new release.

I noticed that with my Flex-1500 the IF was now set default to 3.8KHz.

[Flexradio] Flex-1500 audio??

2011-08-01 Thread Stig Rasmussen
Hello,

I'm considering buying a Flex-1500, but somebody here has complained about
the audio.
I don't know if that is a user-problem, newbie that don't know how to
configure it right, or if the audio amplifier used in it is bad, or
broken.(?)
I would require a flat audio curve within the SSB passband I set up.
Can I expect that from a Flex-1500?
Also on TX?

[Flexradio] SDR-1000 USB-cable dead

2011-08-01 Thread Stig Rasmussen
I finally had my SDR-1000 up working with Win764bit on a Toshiba laptop, and
a special driver for the USB-cable.
I worked very nice for a while.
Then suddenly my USB-cable was dead!
(Maybe caused by thunder. But everything else in shack was ok.)
Now my SDR-1000 is useless without that cable.
Somebody have experience with repair of such cable?
(The electronics? Nothing looks burned.)
Or someone have a spare cable to sell?

Yeah Nice!

But as we are speaking of a new eq. , 2 questions..

1) 160Hz notch seems to be removed. Why?
2) In the 3-bander, it could be nice to add the freequencies as on the
10-bander.
   (not just Low Mid High)

Thanks for the improvement

[Eric] Hover the mouse over the Low/Mid/High controls and it will give you
the frequencies that each slider covers.

[Flexradio] USB problem with SVN1307?

Helo Flexers!

Am I the only one with problem to use the USB-adapter???
I installed everything right on a new LapTop, and needed to use the

I started with the Power-SDR V1.8.0, and all is working fine.
Then I copied the newest SVN-version from the other computer, and needed
only to tell the program to use USB-adapter,
but it sais USB adapter not found (-4)
Also without a database-file, this comes as soon as I try to klikk in the
box for USB adapter, in the start script.
Bug??

Hello, please stop this. :-)
I dont want any discussion around ESSB / and or DX-pileups modulation. Whats
best etc.
My point is only to state the fact that SDR-1000 handle bass-less modulation
much
less punchy than other traditional transceivers, f.example my TS-870 or

Same power-meter used. Thats it! If there is an explanation I would like to

Stig and Jim,

Dale is telling the plain truth, if your main interest is getting your
signal through in noisy conditions and DX pileups. The basses convey
very little speach information, but eat up the limited power of your
transmitter. Unless you want to broadcast a Hi-Fi music program on ham
bands use a good quality multi-channel equalizer to attenuate the
lower frequencies of your modulation. And if you want real information
carrying audio punch, you may use a PROPERLY MADE compressor or even
RF clipper. However, never use compressors and/or clippers, if the the
basses are not attenuated.

Almost four years' time already I have tried to convince our Flex
software wizards and gurus to implement an integrated audio processor
that would enhance the speech signal intelligibility in noise at least
as well as explained in the following ancient articles. Sorry for
this repeated use of the bandwidth, but please, please, read carefully
and understand these:
http://kotisivu.dnainternet.net/ahti/sdr-1000/filtclip.pdf
http://kotisivu.dnainternet.net/ahti/sdr-1000/speechproc.pdf

My understanding is that these functions can be implemented by the DSP
means much more elegantly than 30 years ago by the hardware means. I
sincerely hope that some of our software experts would take my request
seriously.

Within the SVN directory structure, there are elements called
branches. This is a place where the PowerSDR source code is literally
branched off the main code trunk so that other developers can work
on the code (experiment) without adversely affecting the main branch.

The BCI Filter was developed in the K2OX branch and is independent of
the main code trunk. Not all code that is developed in these branches
is incorporated into the main source code trunk. That decision is left
up to the FRS Development team since they control the trunk.

So the answer to your question is essentially yes; each branch version
 is independent of each other.

 Hi All,

I believe I'm incorrect as to how I assumed SVN works. That is, I
 thought
once a feature was implemnted it would be included in the following SVN.
 The
BCI filter was implemented in an earlier version but is not included in
 the
latest version (I cannot find it in SVN 889, I couild be wrong). Perhaps

each version is independent of the others? Is that the way it works?

Re: [Flexradio] RX Image Rejection

2007-02-05 Thread Stig Rasmussen
Hello, this sound familiar. This weekend I helped a friend that had a
terrible problem
with sideband rejection on SSB. We adjusted his transmitter first by the
help of a second receiver.
Then we did this receiver auomatic calibration, and his numbers was just
like you describe.
I dont remember the numbers, but it was near the end of the scale. He has
the Edirol FA66 and we cleaned all
connectors first.

Now I did it on my system, using the Firebox. My numbers was: Phase:15,09
and Gain: 10,30.
(Adjudted at 7.039MHZ using the XG1 from Elecraft. And PowerSDR 1.9.0 SVN
879.)

I can't remember the figures off hand, they are something like Phase =
360.00, and Gain = -250.00 (these are not exact figures)
Wot should one usually see when running this routine? The reason I'm

Perhaps someone can tell me wot I should be seeing, and if there is
perhaps a hardware or other issue affecting this Calibration Routine,

[Flexradio] Squelch after ANF, not before

2006-12-09 Thread Stig Rasmussen
Hello all.

First; I'll post this here because I see nothing happening in the Feature
request section
on the web. All cases is Open since beginning og august. Why is that?

To the subject...:

It could be an idea to make the squelch be operating after the ANF if
possible. I often monitor SSB frequencies with the squelch set. Then a
carrier or some cw opens the squelch. If I use the ANF, the tone disapears,
but the squelch remains open and the noise comes through.
I'll think that if the ANF took care of the beep tone in front of the
squelch it would not open. (I hope you understand)
Thank you.

Re: [Flexradio] Flex Radio for Remote Operations

2006-12-07 Thread Stig Rasmussen

Hello,

I've playing around the last days with this. I use LogMeIn to remotecontrol
the computer running Power-SDR.
Works great but the display update is of course delayed a lot.

I read today the article Q10082 - HOWTO: Remote Audio Rev 2.2 for the
Flex-Radio SDR-1000, and I dont understand
why to use an external VAC (Virtual Audio Cable) program? I dont use such
program.

I use Skype for the sound.
I use a Toshiba laptop with internal Realtek AC97 Audio and use that for
this audio.
(For the SDR-1000 I use Firebox.)
In Power-SDR, the Audio VAC setup, I just select Driver=MME, Input=Realtek
AC97 Audio, and Output=Realtek AC97 Audio.
Enable VAC is checked of course.
Play around with Windows Mixer to get the sound levels right.
NB. Don't let Skype control the Audio.(A setting in Skype) This makes Skype
automaticly change to use the mic(in mixer) and not the Stereo mix for
recording (sending out sound).
Works fine for me. (Skype is not ideal I think. I may connect several times
to get a good line.

Hello All

I am a new subscriber to this list.

I am interested in possibly purchasing a Flex Radio and I am interested to
hear from anyone on the list that is using the Flex in a remote station

Currently I am remoting a TS2000 but I am finding its receiver performance
to be a little wanting. I would be interested in Flex Radio user feedback re
remote station utilisation (please email me directly) and would be happy to
summarise observations here on the reflector.

Finally I am after telephone contact details for the Flex radio crew but
cannot locate anything on the webpage. I would like to explore some business
opportunities with the company but would prefer to discuss directly (rather
than via email)

Any assistance with these matters is appreciated

Re: [Flexradio] Dual displays

2006-10-29 Thread Stig Rasmussen
Hello,

Most Toshiba computers can show two different screens(desktops). It depends
on the video controller used. Try this:
Right-click your screen and choose Properies (last choice.)
Click on Settings (to the right) tab.
There may be you see picture of two screens , 1 and 2, and 2 is ghosted
(disabled)???
If so, then right-click on screen2 and eneble it. If you cant see something
like this
then you probably cant use two different desktops.

Hi,

Wanting to have two displays, I plugged a LCD display into my lap
top, and now I have either or both, but when I have both they are
identical. Is there a software solution to dual displays where one
is an extension of the other?

With Software Defined Radios, it's going to be a whole wild can of
worms, because the usual ways of limiting a piece of hardware to
doing only emissions (frequency, bandwidth, etc.) it's supposed to
don't work. Load new software, and whoops, you're radiating a
different kind of signal in a different band, etc
==end snip=

well, at the risk of biting into a troll (most of them have a distinct
bitter taste, but every once in a while you get a good one), I'll respond
to 'ya Jim.

so here it is in a nut-shell:

1.) We're not radiating anything here. we are wondering what happened to
the receive scan function .
2.) There is a question the table to Flex, Why
3.) ...so far no response.

[Flexradio] SDR-1000 current drain

2006-09-30 Thread Stig Rasmussen
Hello,

I have a new SDR-1000 with PA and ATU.
I just notice while connecting to a lab-powersupply with digital meters,
my SDR-1000 pulls almost 1A when just connecting the power.
(Nothing else connected.)

When switching on (no computer connected) it pulls 2A.
With computer connected with parallellcable, actually it variuos between
1,75 to 2,15A each time I switch on.
Very strange, and I dont like it when tings is not stable.:-)

When turned on with PowerSDR it goes down to 0,9A

Turning off with PowerSDR, goes down to 0,75A (! Then things is controlled
right I think.)

What I wonder the most, is the 1A when turned off with the front button.

Is all this normal?

[Flexradio] Small bug in SVN, Spectrum Grid alignment

Hello,

I first noticed this in SVN686 and still in 689.
The Spectrum grid text dissapears in USB and CWU mode, if you select Align -
Left. (Setup, Display, Spectrum Grid.)
Using the default Align - Auto, then all is fine.
I tested with a new database-file. Same thing here. Only me??

Hi Eric,

I don't have any database so nothing was imported, the SDR is literally just
out of the box, I haven't done any calibration with either version of
software, with 1.6.2 the noise floor sits at around -140dBm against -110dBm
on the SVN version, on both versions I had the pre-amp set to high.

Andy,

Did you import your database or recalibrate the RX Level on the new version?
This or perhaps differing Preamp settings may account for the difference in
noise floor.

 Hi Folks,

Just got my SDR-1000 and only tried RX so far, I notice the noise floor is
around 20-30 dB up the scale using the latest PowerSDR SVN compared to
1.6.2, is this correct? I have checked all the settings and they look the
same between the two versions. I am using a Firebox for the soundcard.

 Thanks,

Hello again,

I have tested 3 computers and think that is good enough to determin
that my USB-adapter is not working 100%.

First problem was that i goes directly to TX when I start push Standby
button.
Fixing this with dissable PTT is not a good solution, then VOX dont work.

Next problem is controlling the ATU.
This is not working, and the transmitter hangs in MOX.

I really hope you can send a new cable/adaptor without me first returning,
since that shipment
vil cost me much.. And I also had to struggle with it. :-)

Stig,

I'm starting to believe you are right about the USB Adapter. Please double
check the connections on both ends. You may want to try a different USB
port to see if that makes a difference.

 Stig,

Open the Setup Form and go to the General Tab - Options sub tab. There
 is
a control there to disable PTT. The default shortcut for PTT is Ctrl+M.
Also, after you have clicked on the MOX button, you can push the spacebar
 to
activate the last button. This can function as a pseudo PTT control.

I click on the MOX to send. If i click it in this state I think it goes

There must be something wrong with my USB-cable/interface.
Unless you have some better sugestions..

  Stig,

The software is detecting PTT and it seems like it is not terminated
 into
  a
radio if it is reading 500W+ on the power meter. Try disabling PTT and
  see

[Flexradio] Receiver calibration / ATU question

2006-08-30 Thread Stig Rasmussen
Hello folks,

I'm rather new with an 1,5 week old SDR-1k. I'm using this on different
computers,
but with the same Firebox.
Do I need to calibrate it on every machine? (If i want correct meter
readings.)
Or is it ok just to copy the database file, after calibrating on one of the
computers?

An other question... I have 100W and ATU build in. In Transmit Setup there
is a setting for Tune, 10W.
But when I tune, my external meter shows 20 - 30W during the tuning.
Whatever the setting is.
This is with version 1.6.2 release version and with SVN 659. Why is this so?

[Flexradio] Wires to the Firebox??

2006-08-09 Thread Stig Rasmussen
Hello all,

I have newly ordered the SDR-1000, and have already the Firebox.
I want to have all cables ready when I receive the SDR.

I have read all documentation but miss some detailed information on the
audio connectors, line in and out. + Firebox connector advise.

1 - Is it stereo connectors on SDR-1000, or possible to connect as balanced?

2 - Do you recomend balanced connection on the Firebox side?
