Re: [Flexradio] SDR1000 clicks during tuning - does USB control help?Hmm, you
guys could be on to something. When I drag the panadapter the cpu usage does
rocket up. I have a very old NVIDIA graphics card that chokes a bit on 3d
stuff, and a measly 1.8 GHz clocked single AMD processor. I seem to remember
this issue wasn't there with some of the original code, possibly that was
before directx was implemented. I'll try turning off the panadapter when I get
home.

Is this good news? I won't need a new radio, just a $1,000-$3,000 new
computer! Good excuse to tell my wife I need new CPU parts.

  Wayne,

I just tried my 1K with SVN 1888, slid it all up and down on all
bands and do not heard any popping, but I do notice a big jump in
the CPU usage, from 9% to 40 to 45%, most likely due to the extra
graphics needed to display. Sounds like an old fashion analog radio
with a big knob. My CPU is 3.4 ghz hyper threaded, with NVida
graphics card, on board LPT for control. Some of the on board
graphics do not handle that much graphics very well, and have to rely
on the CPU to make up the graphic difference or must share memory
with main memory. You might verify this by turning the panadapter
off and moving the frequency either with the mouse wheel or with the
  Griffin knob.

Thanks Eric, that's roughly what I expected. I seem to remember that the
clicks diminish with the noise blanker turned on, which led me to the
concept of noise generated on the parallel port wiring as a potential cause.

[Flexradio] Option to remove dB display?

2006-10-05 Thread Wayne Roth
Now that we have great analog signal meter, I'd like the option to remove the
dB signal level display above it as it's somewhat distracting. Is anyone else
interested in having this option?

Thanks,

[Flexradio] Ham Radio Deluxe - high CPU rate

2005-10-26 Thread Wayne Roth
HRD works well with the SDR-1000, but I have noticed that the SDR CPU
utilization goes way up when HRD is "connected". SDR jumps from single
digit / low teens to 40's and 50's with HRD. I'm running the 226 version
of Phil's serial driver. I've tried telling HRD it's a Kenwood at a low
baud rate, assuming the poll rate of HRD is causing the problem, but that
doesn't help.

[Flexradio] Bad SantaCruz card, Audigy 2ZS blowby, switching to Delta 66!

2005-10-04 Thread Wayne Roth

Gerald (& flex list members),

Yes I think the echo source is a bad soundcard. After hours of debugging,
there is obviously an on-board crosstalk problem from an output signal to
mike input. If I decrease mike gain on the SantaCruz and speak much louder
to compensate, the amplitude of the echo component drops. I switched to an
Audigy 2ZS pro board, and the echo is gone, but the mixer isn't compatible
with PowerSDR, and strangely enough, large signals outside the chosen filter
on the opposite sideband of the USB/SSB demod are passing through to the
speakers. Installing the May 2005 creative Audigy drivers caused numerous
other problems (PC wouldn't even boot), so I've ordered a Delta 66 card (has
SPDIF inputs which I use for other stuff) and will be using that instead.

Thanks to all for the assistance of the DDS issue, and now the echo. What a
great collection of intelligent folks!

Wayne,
I think I recall seeing that on a bad Santa Cruz one time. I think we
swapped it out and fixed it but that was several months ago. Also, do you
have ECO-018 installed? You might have a ground loop on the microphone
input. Try connecting the microphone directly to the sound card and see
if

it goes away.

My new issue is that after installing the 100W PA and ECO's
this weekend I'm getting an echo on transmit. It's not
acoustic, and the period is dependant on the audio buffer
size, 1024 is a shorter echo than 2048. I've gone into the
Santa Cruz control panel and made sure that all he dsp
effects are off. I suppose the driver could be ignoring the
panel controls, but that seems unlikely. I've uninstalled
ASIO and tried the windows directsound and MME, which still
echoes (and has dropouts too). I do have a Audigy 2ZS pro

have any experience with the Santa Cruz and this issue, let me know.

[Flexradio] Receiver dies 2 min after power-up, ideas?

2005-09-30 Thread Wayne Roth
My SDR-1000 (an older rev box with RFE, no PA or tuner, parallel port
interface) receives fine for the first couple of minutes then goes deaf.
Cycling the DC power restores the receiver for another couple minutes, then
it dies again. Just before it craps out, the baseline as viewed on the
spectral display raises from -130 to about -70 a couple times along with an
increase in the white noise, then drops to -140. All frequencies appear to
be dead. Restarting the software has no effect, so it's a hardware issue.
I have yet to open the enclosure and get the scope out, just wondering if
anyone has seen this, or has a suggestion on where to start looking.

Best Regards,
