I had problems with 60 Hz and coupling from switching power supplies, etc.. Best performance (in terms of interference rejection, etc.) was with cat5 style twisted pairs. Jim Brown, K9YC, has studied this in some detail, and found that it's because in order to actually work for network use, the twist rate and mechanical properties have to be very well controlled. That perfect symmetry and control makes the self-shielding of twisted pair work very, very well (better than most coax). Based on that experience, I'd almost think that the optimum connector for the next go around on an SDR1000 (if it has audio pairs) would be the RJ45 wired as for networks. Dave, you'll have the same trouble using either DeOxit red or Gold on the stainless-steel mini-plug [HOSA]. I tried them all. In order to eliminate the oxidation that occurs over time between the plug and jack you'd be best advised to re-terminate the cables with 3.5mm gold-plated plugs. I have done this and its completely eliminated the connector interface problem. As well I've found that a very very light coating of DeOxit ProGold contact conditioner on these radio jacks removes the the previous grudge and keeps them functioning 100% with the gold connectors. Re: [Flexradio] Poor Audio Connections producing DSSB
Dave, Some people tie wrap the audio connections to the parallel connector cable comming from the SDR-1000 to avoid them being pulled loose. If you're a little more adventurous, you might want to check out Mike King's website < www.km0t.com >. He moved the modified Delta-44 break-out board inside the SDR-1000, making the 15-pin d-sub connector the audio connector. As the break-out board does nothing more than filter and pass on all the audio connections (as well as add flexibility on grounding), the 15-pin connector can also be used to hook up to other sound cards. 73 de Joe - AB1DO - Original Message - From: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: Sent: Wednesday, January 10, 2007 06:51 Subject: [Flexradio] Poor Audio Connections producing DSSB > ZS6AVM Wrote: > > I've had this issue crop-up a few times now, the SDr transmits in DSSB > when in SSB mode > Seems as though the audio connects on the back of the SDR Box do not > make good contact > After un-plugging and re-plugging the audio connections, the problem > disappears > Its seems to cop-up every so often > Apart form had wiring the audio cables to the SDr Box, is there an easy > fix for this problem, one which will ensure that the connections remain > good ? > > Best regards > > Dave > ZS6AVM ___ FlexRadio mailing list FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz http://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexradio_flex-radio.biz Archive Link: http://www.mail-archive.com/flexradio%40flex-radio.biz/ FlexRadio Homepage: http://www.flex-radio.com/ FlexRadio Knowledge Base: http://kb.flex-radio.com/

ZS6AVM Wrote: I've had this issue crop-up a few times now, the SDr transmits in DSSB when in SSB mode Seems as though the audio connects on the back of the SDR Box do not make good contact After un-plugging and re-plugging the audio connections, the problem disappears Its seems to cop-up every so often Apart form had wiring the audio cables to the SDr Box, is there an easy fix for this problem, one which will ensure that the connections remain good ?
