Re: [Flexradio] 2.7.2 consensus sought

2013-12-20 Thread Michael Babineau
Am I missing something ?

I thought that when you installed a new PowerSDR release that it doesn’t touch
the previous
version? If that is that case there is nothing to be lost by “trying” the new
version. If it is not to your liking you just go back
to using the previously installed version of PowerSDR. I guess that the only
caveat is that you can’t undo a firmware update
to the rig, which I believe that this new version of PowerSDR applies. I
believe that the firmware is backward compatible with
a previous version of PowerSDR.

Re: [Flexradio] 2.7.2 consensus sought

2013-12-20 Thread Bret Mills
You can have at least the 2.6.4 working but you have to copy a file
(pal.dll) (in Win7) from the c:/Program Files (x86)/FlexRadio
System/PowerSDR v2.7.2 to the c:/Program Files (x86)/FlexRadio
System/PowerSDR v2.6.4 directory.

One of the Flex people commented on this the day after or evening of the
release of 2.7.2.

The Firmware upgrade to the Radio will not allow the older versions from
working with out copying this file.

The UPGRADE is well worth the effort to move to the new version in my humble
opinion.

Re: [Flexradio] 2.7.2 consensus sought

2013-12-20 Thread Tom Warren

 About the Data Transfer --

I have also 'successfully' upgraded my Flex 5000a (win7pro-64) to v2.7.2 and
successfully
used the v1.0.1 Data Transfer program.

However, BE AWARE that the Data Transfer program only transfers
what is specifically listed on the page of items to be moved. Be prepared to
re-input additional info, maybe based on your additional accessories, for
instance;

1. I run an Elecraft XV144 transverter which drives a KW amp and have the
the details plugged into the Flex XVTR form as required…..(LO offset, LO
error, etc.).
All that info needed to be input again. The Data Transfer program shows
that the XVTR
form will be transferred, which it does, but the input info has been
wiped clean.
2. The specific transverter TX info also had to be added again.
3. My 'skin' reverted to a default and had to be reset…no big deal if you use
one from the drop down menu…..just an FYI.
4. Your waterfall settings will be changed to a (default ?)…again, an FYI to
save your old
waterfall settings. Maybe this is due to the new 'weak signal' setting, I
don't know.
5. You may have to recalibrate your frequency setting, mine was 3 khz too
high….agn NBD but did
require to reset my XVTR LO error setting.
6. Antenna settings were all reset to default (ANT 1)and had to be reset
including my 6M ( preamp)
loop setting, not really a problem for me…... just be aware.

NOTE: All of this may be due to my setup, which is very basic, in fact my (one
of Neal's) computer
is only connected to the internet for rare occasions like this upgrade and for
recalibrating my time clock
for weak signal digital work. I've had great experience with my Flex !!

So it seems to me that the files/settings which are transferred are those
(many) basic files
and not the files associated with accessory equipment. I mention this only to
alert others
who might have other hardware requiring custom settings. I save my settings
(and revisions)
in a 3-ring binder which is a lifesaver.

It's interesting to note that David's (VK3AUU) cw memories were not transferred
but mine were; maybe that's
the difference between a F1500 XP and F5000 win7…..;0).

Merry Christmas……..

Seems OK to me. I upgraded from v2.6.4. I read the release notes. The only
thing that didn't transfer was the CW messages and the antenna connections
for the different bands. No big deal.

Re: [Flexradio] 2.7.2 consensus sought

2013-12-19 Thread Patrick Greenlee
I used to try to avoid consensus as consensus requires compromise where no
one gets what they want so no one is satisfied. If lit were done MY WAY at
least one of us would be satisfied.

But seriously... I am not an early adopter per se. I prefer to wait till the
smoke settles a bit before jumping in. In my opinion the smoke has settled.
I installed 2.7.2 Yesterday. It went straightforward with one exception.
It is installed and working fine first try, totally text book. The one
exception was a senior moment on my part. It took me too long to realize
that the database transfer software could only work after installing 2.7.2
so it would have a legitimate destination into which to make the transfer.
Once my little light bulb lit a bit (I've been meaning to change to a LED) I
realized the dumb mistake and all went smoothly.

Uncharacteristically I did read the release notes in advance.

I am running 2.5 and considering upgrading. Things are running smoothly
now.
Is it the consensus to upgrade now or wait for a maintenance release or
?

I would definitely go for it. Sounds like the new transfer program is out,
and the first one worked after a bit of trying anyway.

I really like the new features I have tried on v2.7.2. Believe Flex has
