Re: [Flexradio] Anyone using MacBook with PC dualboot?
At the risk of "piling on", I will relate that I use BootCamp and Windows XP on an early 2008 MacBook Pro, 2.4 GHz, 2GB RAM, with my Flex 1500. I have seen no problems with this combination. I do like the Flex 1500 and I think that it is one of the best receivers I have ever used. Clearly as far as performance goes, it is hard to beat it for bang for the buck. - Duffey KK6MC/5 -- KK6MC James Duffey Cedar Crest NM ___ FlexRadio Systems Mailing List FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz http://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexradio_flex-radio.biz Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/flexradio%40flex-radio.biz/ Knowledge Base: http://kc.flexradio.com/ Homepage: http://www.flexradio.com/

Just remember that you need a cable with the larger 9-pin IEEE1394B connector on one end to connect to the iMac, and the 6-pin IEEE1394A connector on the other end to plug into the 3000 or 5000. Other than the occasional DPC problem with Macs that have the nVidia GCU, every Mac I have ever used has worked properly with PowerSDR. And I have loaded Windows and PowerSDR on AT LEAST 10 different Macs at this point including various flavors of MacBook Pro, Mac Mini, and iMac, and all have run PowerSDR successfully. Remember too, you don't need to get your driver updates only from Apple. You can update the nVidia or AMD Radeon driver directly from nVidia or AMD. This is what I do and it does make a difference when running Windows under BootCamp. -- Brian Lloyd, WB6RQN/J79BPL 3191 Western Dr. Cameron Park, CA 95682 br...@lloyd.com +1.767.617.1365 (Dominica) +1.916.877.5067 (USA) ___ FlexRadio Systems Mailing List FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz http://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexradio_flex-radio.biz Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/flexradio%40flex-radio.biz/ Knowledge Base: http://kc.flexradio.com/ Homepage: http://www.flexradio.com/

Does anyone have any direct experience with the latest iMac and the 5000A? I recently bought an I7 iMac with a 3.4Ghz quad-core CPU, 4GB RAM and a Radeon 6970M video chipset. I'm not normally a "Mac guy", but it was necessary to support a client. As someone else said, it's a clean machine - not a lot of extra cables. If it stands a good chance of working, I'd be happy to burn a Windows 7 x64 license to get it going with the 5000A. The 13" MBP and the MacBook Air use the Intel HD Graphics 3000 which is, I believe, nVidia. Now that Apple has put the AMD Radeon GCU back in the MacBook Pro I think it is time to replace my now-5-year-old MacBook Pro (which is still running flawlessly). FWIW, with the exception of an IBM ThinkPad got in 2000 to run Win 2000 (much better than MacOS back then, and the ThinkPad was an excellent laptop) I have used Apple laptops. Every single one eventually became obsolete but every single one was still running just fine. Apple laptops may be more expensive but they seem to just keep working. I have worn the keyboards out typing on some of them. I just replace the keyboard and keep using them. -- Brian Lloyd, WB6RQN/J79BPL 3191 Western Dr. Cameron Park, CA 95682 br...@lloyd.com +1.767.617.1365 (Dominica) +1.916.877.5067 (USA) ___ FlexRadio Systems Mailing List FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz http://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexradio_flex-radio.biz Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/flexradio%40flex-radio.biz/ Knowledge Base: http://kc.flexradio.com/ Homepage: http://www.flexradio.com/
Re: [Flexradio] Anyone using MacBook with PC dualboot?
Larry, check the NVIDIA utilities that may have been installed along with the video drivers. The card runs fine without them and, unless you are an overclocker (does anyone overclock Macs?) you'll probably never use them. However, a couple of them can produce horrendous DPC spikes. Run DPCLAT and look for spikes occurring rhythmically at intervals of 4-5 seconds. If you see that pattern, try deleting the NVIDIA add-ons.
