Not to drag this out, but I don't think I used the word mode. I intended to
say: "where the transmitter will transmit (true) in any mode, or not (false)
at all". My apologies if I wasn't explicit enough.

Joe, that is correct. However, that true/false field does not know anything
about mode. It will not prevent transmitting SSB in a CW-only segment. So,
if the BandText table incorrectly identifies the new SSB segments as CW, the
SDR-1000 will still allow you to operate SSB there.

2006-12-19 Thread Joe - AB1DO
Actually Bob,

that depends. If I'm not mistaken, the BandText table contains a true/false
column titled Transmit, in essence identifying parts of the frequency
spectrum where the transmitter will transmit (true) or not. If this is
incorrect (as was erroneously the case with the 80m hole between 3700 and
3775), the transmitter won't work.

Craig,

You can download a new installation package for the data import utility from:

http://www.qsl.net/k9dur/downloads/SetupSDRDataImport.exe

This package has been tested under both Windows 2000 & Windows XP.

The new package will be available on the Knowledge Base soon.

Re: [Flexradio] New band freq changes

2006-12-16 Thread FlexRadio - Eric
Sorry about that. You are of course correct. The idea is to keep all of
the data around EXCEPT for the old BandText table.

There are a few options for current SVN users to bring their database up to
date:

#1 (easiest/loss of settings): Simply delete your PowerSDR.mdb database
file from the C:\Program Files\FlexRadio Systems\PowerSDR vX.Y.Z folder.
You will lose all of your settings (memories, hardware setup, calibration,
etc), but you WILL have the new band descriptions.

#2 (easy, requires MS Access): If you have MS Access, open the PowerSDR.mdb
file mentioned above and simply delete the BandText table. The next time
you start the application it will rebuild with the new data. This will
preserve all of your setup and calibration.

#3 (complex, requires database utility): Make a copy of your current
PowerSDR.mdb file and then delete the original. Run the application in
order to generate a new fresh copy of the database, then use K9DUR's
database utility (available on our knowledge base) to import all tables
EXCEPT the BandText table. This will give you all of your old settings +
the new descriptions.

For those of you not using SVN, you will need to wait until the next
official release to see the descriptions for the changed bands. Note that
these same set of instructions will come into play when importing databases
from v1.6.2 or v1.6.3 Beta.

Eric,

As the author of the database import utility, I must point out that the
method you suggest will not work.

As written, the utility merely appends records to the destination database
that are not already there and changes values in records that are already
there. The program uses the primary key of the table to determine whether a
record already exists in the table or not. It does not replace the
destination table and does not delete any records. If you do what you
suggest, you will end up with a BandText table containing both the old
allocation records and the new allocation records -- NOT a good situation.

Although slightly more involved, the following method WILL work: Start with
a new database and then use the utility to import all of the other tables.
The utility lists all of the tables it finds in the source database, so,
after selecting the source (old) & destination (new) databases, all the user
has to do is Control-Click on all of the tables except the BandText table
and then click on Transfer Data.

This is an error in the new BandText that Flex will have to correct.
If you have a copy of MS access, you can easily correct it yourself.
Otherwise wait for the update.

Re: [Flexradio] New band freq changes

2006-12-16 Thread Ray Andrews
Craig,

The database utility was developed on my home PC, which runs Windows XP, & was
not tested with any other operating system. That is a common error message
when trying to install a VB6 program compiled under XP on a Win2K machine. I
have the same problem at work. My development PC is XP-based but all of the
production floor PC's run Win2K. I usually have to re-compile my programs on
the floor PC. I can try to find a Win2K PC at work on Monday, compile it
there, & create a Win2K installation package.

Stay tuned for further information

Re: [Flexradio] New band freq changes

2006-12-16 Thread Dudley Hurry
Ray and Eric,

I got the utility loaded (realized that the actual program file only
installs in the "c:\program files\PowerSDR Data Import
Utility" location) and imported my old database that I had saved to
a different location, created a new .mdb by starting PowerSDR. Then
copied all but the BandText into the new .mdb.. Now the console
shows "Out of Band" from 3700 to 3774..

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Dudley

Re: [Flexradio] New band freq changes

2006-12-16 Thread Craig Monsen
I tried the database utility and received an error message when trying to
install the utility. It asked to update files that were out of date on
Windows (my Win2k SP4). After a restart, the same message came up when
running the utility.

Now what?

Re: [Flexradio] New band freq changes

2006-12-16 Thread Ray Andrews
Eric,

As the author of the database import utility, I must point out that the method
you suggest will not work.

As written, the utility merely appends records to the destination database that
are not already there and changes values in records that are already there.
The program uses the primary key of the table to determine whether a record
already exists in the table or not. It does not replace the destination table
and does not delete any records. If you do what you suggest, you will end up
with a BandText table containing both the old allocation records and the new
allocation records -- NOT a good situation.

Although slightly more involved, the following method WILL work: Start with a
new database and then use the utility to import all of the other tables. The
utility lists all of the tables it finds in the source database, so, after
selecting the source (old) & destination (new) databases, all the user has to
do is Control-Click on all of the tables except the BandText table and then
click on Transfer Data.

Re: [Flexradio] New band freq changes

2006-12-16 Thread FlexRadio - Eric
I had forgotten to commit the database changes before I left work yesterday.
They are posted in SVN Rev 787 (the front panel will still show 782).

Note that you will need to start with a fresh database in order to see the
new allocations. If you don't want to lose your current settings, you can
use the database import utility that can be found on our knowledge base to
only import the BandText table from a fresh database into your current one.

How does one update PowerSDR SVN:782 to reflect the new changes today?
