I know you would NEVER believe this of microsoft, but they have some
SERIOUS bug fixes, not just security holes, that get fixed every Tuesday.
I just don't see how to keep a system pristine these days and doing the
updates without lots of inconvenience.

Then there are others such as myself that are still using the Firewire cable
that Flex supplied wth the SDR-5000 (back in 2008) that has worked without fail
on two different computers….upgraded mine a few years ago.

True! I have had problems with bad cables, and erratic connections between
the cable and the computer. Cleaning the plug and socket helped
considerably. Replacing the cable with a better one helped even more.
Always eliminate the hardware problems first, in my experience.

Another thing to check / verify; make sure all audio devices are running the
same sampling rate and depth i.e 2 channel, 16 bit, 48,000 Hz.
Mismatches with VAC and sound cards WILL cause significant DPCs (Delayed

Hi Lester

Had similar issues with my 5000A and it turned out to be RF getting where it
shouldn't - mainly into the PC. Lots of re-routing of cables and
installation of ferrite clamps solved it. Can't help physically I'm afraid
as I'm some 3,500 miles away...

Are there any network interfaces present (including wireless networking) ?
They may be built into the motherboard. Doesn't matter if you have
them connected to a network cable or not. If present, try disabling

Re: [Flexradio] Newbie help needed with 5000A in area of W.MD/NE WV

2014-05-30 Thread Rich - W3ZJ
I suspect the problem is your Firewire cable. I had a similar problem
with my Flex-3000. I replaced the firewire card to no avail and finally
replaced the cable. It hasn't hiccuped since and I've got a lot more
than just PwerSDR running. So, when you get your new cable try replacing
that first.

OK. That's that theory dead then :-)
Have you got other programs running at the same time? I know my PC is out of
the ark, but I can't run MS Outlook as well as PowerSDR

Have on order a new Granite FW cable and a new SIIG N2E8412X NN-400012-S8

Hi Lester

Had similar issues with my 5000A and it turned out to be RF getting where it
shouldn't - mainly into the PC. Lots of re-routing of cables and
installation of ferrite clamps solved it. Can't help physically I'm afraid
as I'm some 3,500 miles away...

Anyone in panhandle of MD or the NE of WV willing to assist a newbie trying
to get a new 5000A going.
The systems keeps locking up, on two different Intel virgin systems, both
with good latency tests. I would like to isolate the issue to either my CPU
system or to the 5000A hardware. Done all the optimizations called for in
the FAQs and created a trouble ticket, but no response on follow-up from
factory other than the initial response covering issues in the FAQs.

Need to get with a working system, and isolate the problem.
 Thanks
