Re: [Flexradio] Still Frustrated

2010-10-28 Thread Ed Wilson
Rick,

I sometimes feel old and frustrated myself, but not about my Flex radios!

I have a Flex-5000 and a Flex-3000 that I use primarily on CW and PSK31. I use
DM780 for PSK31, and even though I have installed HRD, I do not have the need
to
run it (or Mini-Deluxe which I have not tried) to run DM780 successfully. My
T/R
switching speed is pretty good on the digital modes with DM780.

There are some issues with the latest public beta of PowerSDR (2.0.8) on CW and
I have found that if I downgrade to 2.0.6, CW works fairly well. I am hoping
that the next general beta release to the public will have addressed these CW
problems. I have received excellent reports on PSK with IMD levels of around
-30
dB. The transmitted waveform looks very clean down to at least -100 db from the
peak. You could also revert to version 1.18.6 which works fine on CW and PSK31
as I recall.

If you would like to talk through my setup over the phone, I would be glad to
work with you on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. Please contact me directly if
you wish to set something up.

I'm feeling old and frustrated! I love the new Flex 5000A receiver but am
having very little luck with digital modes and CW. It's been recommended
that I not use HRD but switch to mini-deluxe which I did. DM780 receives
fine but won't activate PTT. Then I tried Fldigi and found that it had a
very limited number of com port choices which don't match my options. PWRSDR
is set to com 9 here and I do not have PTT enabled. Should I? If so which
com port should it be set to?

I've had quite a time getting this set up for digital modes and CW, which
still isn't working well. I have to say that I've never had so little on air
time with a new radio. I seem to be spending all my available time trying to
figure out how things work. Sorry to complain but I find it frustrating. Is
there some tutorial somewhere that provides an easy way to set the radio up
for each mode - proper levels, recommended digi mode software etc? Maybe
there is and I just haven't had time to find it.

Thanks to all who responded with life lines. I got back to it this morning.
Checked all settings in PWRSDR setup and went back and setup mini-Deluxe,
DM780 and Logbook. All working nowgo figure?

I do have one further question. In PSK31 xmit mode I seem to be getting a
little burp about every 4 seconds. That's the best way I can describe it.
Any thoughts. I'm using PWRSDR 2.0.13 at the moment.

Are you using the demo version of VAC? If so the burp is the embedded voice
(QRM) that cripples the VAC demo version of the software. This goes away when
you install the purchased version of VAC

Huh? You can use any comm port number with fldigi. I have never run into a
limit. I happen to use comm8/18 for CAT (PSDR uses comm18 and fldigi uses
comm8) and comm9/19 for PTT, but I only do that because WSPR can't use comm
port numbers higher than 9, not because fldigi can't.

I see that Tim has given you the link to my article in the fldigi wiki. It
is getting a bit old but the information will get you to where you want to
go.
