transmitter doesn't stay on until they can get home to turn it off?

ddutil has a transmit time-out feature. I know it works with the
digital modes where they assert PTT through ddutil but not sure it
would work for you clicking on the MOX button to transmit. If you are
using VOX and lose the link, the radio should unkey as there will be
no more audio coming in.

* The power on button - momentary push on - how are others remotely
turning their machines on and off? I really want the ability to
power it

down and then back up.

I would like to see an answer for this one too. It looks like the
internal processor can turn the power on/off so perhaps there is a
command that could come over the FlexWire or from PowerSDR via the
FireWire (MIDI) that would do it too.

* That itty bitty manual transmit button - tough to push it on and off
when you are driving (sorta kidding - but kinda not). Has anyone
come up

with a way to put a 'man-sized' PTT button on the screen, or another
mechanism to give you a positive PTT on and off?

Sounds like you need separate hardware for that.

* The SPE Expert 1K amplifier (sweet as my kids would say) - I've got
two serial ports tied up - one for CAT control, and the other for
the remote
operating software for the Expert - is anyone using and can
recommend a USB
to Serial bridge (i.e. multiple serial ports off of a single USB
port)?

ddutil. ddutil acts as a CAT fan-out box so all your different devices
can be connected to give information to PowerSDR or get it from
PowerSDR. You can use several different serial ports connected to
different devices, e.g. amp, tuner, rotator, etc., each with its own
serial port. You would have PowerSDR send the band info to the SPE
Expert 1K amp through ddutil. I believe that there is now a mode that
allows the Expert 1K amp to provide level control back to PowerSDR as
well.

* Any other peripherals that anyone could recommend that would make
the remote operation of a Flex radio station better, safer and more
effective?

Someone to sit at the console and monitor? ;-)

This is, I think, the biggest hassle for remote operation as it is the
only problem that is ultimately unfixable in software.

(We can implement software timeouts if we need them, for instance).

It would be nice to have an official Flex upgrade for those of us who want
it. Would there be enough demand, I wonder? Or, would it be enough to
simply have a simpler, physically compatible switch?

It could actually be as simple as an ordinary off/on switch as per the SDR
1000 and then manage remote power on/ power off external to the box, which
I imagine has about a hundred inexpensive, well-proven solutions out
there.

All we would really need in that case is for Flex to approve some switch
or other that we could put in without voiding the warranty. There must be
one with sufficient reliability that fits the same hole in the case and
maybe even has a LED in it.

I must confess that this is a problem I don't have today -- but could
tomorrow.

I can readily imagine (as I age) moving to an apartment or a condo where I
would have to get a piece of land elsewhere to put up my antenna farm.

On that day, this kind of thing becomes acute.

Hi Bill, I am not sure about your setup, but perhaps a Web
(Internet Remote) accessible power switch would solve some of your
problems? They are readily available on eBay for $75

got it working, but have some questions / concerns, etc. and can't believe
that I am the first person asking these questions or coming across these
