..in these "peaceful times", I see reasons _not_ to, I have a

Re: [Flightgear-devel] Building FlightGear (not finding metakit)

2003-01-24 Thread Chris Reichow
I did a little more checking on this, and I looked
through the December FG-Devel archives. I tried
changing LD_LIBRARY_PATH and using the
--with-metakit=/usr/local/lib with no avail. Also,
when I build and install metakit it installs libmk4.a
into /usr/local/lib. Not libmk4.so. Any ideas on what
could be causing this/ideas for a solution?

Build System:
WinXP/Cygwin
GCC3.2
SimGear0.3.1
FlightGear CVS
Metakit 2.4.3 or 2.4.8 (tried both)
etc. etc.

Thanks.

[Flightgear-devel] Building FlightGear (not finding metakit)

2003-01-24 Thread Joe Bob
Hello everyone.

First off, I'd just like to say that FlightGear is a
great piece of software. Build setup: Cygwin as of
today. Anyway, I was building it today and everything
was going smoothly until I started the final
FlightGear build (CVS as of today). I did the
./autogen.sh and then my ./configure. Anyway, here's
an excerpt:

checking for plib PSL scripting support... no
checking mk4.h usability... yes
checking mk4.h presence... yes
checking for mk4.h... yes
checking for metakit 2.4.3 or newer... wrong version
configure: error:

Install metakit 2.4.3 or later first.

Or, the compiler may not be finding your libmk4.so
library.
Please check the config.log file for specific details
of the
failure if you believe you have the correct metakit
version.
Also, look up this issue in the FlightGear FAQ.

However, I already installed metakit 2.4.3 using the
normal configure/make/make install. I looked deeper
into the config.log file and found that it was looking
for libmk4.so which was never even created by the make
process. Thinking maybe it was just a faulty setup, I
tried metakit 2.4.8. That didn't work either. Any
suggestions?

I've been very impressed with the scenery. Even the private grass

I drove by New Castle Glider Club's field three or four times in my
car. I never knew it was there until someone (successfully) tried to
get me hooked on gliders. I almost fell out of my chair when I saw it
in FlightGear. :-)

Good job!

AI cows would be a neat addition to the dynamic scenery we were talking
about before. At one of the local airports (KBCB) there are several
fields and some silos right under the airplane on final approach.

[Flightgear-devel] Performance analysis

In case you are interested, there is all the pieces for a
view-dependent LOD engine in the GTS library (http://gts.sf.net). It
is not restricted to regular (e.g. quadtree) data but can deal with
arbitary 3D triangulated surfaces (which would allow for the current
approach for road/rivers etc... in flightgear). It would even be
conceivable to include buildings etc... as part of the LOD terrain
(i.e. the same engine would deal with the LOD for both terrains and
buildings).

I don't think it would be too difficult to integrate this into
flightgear for a first stage demo which would only display a limited
area (an area which would fit in main memory).

Tha main issue to be solved is the paging/caching mechanism for larger
(global) data sets. There is litterature on this however and I could
give you references if you are interested.

I don't have personally much time to invest on this but I would be
happy to help on the GTS side of things.

..in a german grammar class some 25 years ago, I looked for some
15-30 seconds at what I thought was an orange target tug jet, "in
a normal southbound cruise coming from the sound east of Senja"
(the other big mainland island) ,"about to pass over around"
Harstad, Norway, at "about 3-4000 ft". I guessed "about .8 Mach".

..looking out the window, was inspired by the profound enthusiasm in
german grammar classes you'd expect from your average aeromodeller,
who found ID'ing the tug, _far_ more intriguing. Nice girls too. ;-)

..it only "blinked twice" flying behind the mountains on the Rolla
and Andørja islands, no translucency. I blinked too. ;-)

> (Did you ever wonder why that is?)

..as I had no camera handy, and I did'nt think of it as anything
but an orange target tug jet until it was gone, I went with the
_Quiet_ Simpson Approach[Tm] "Nobody saw me do that...". ;-)

Scenarios always come in sets of three:
best case, worst case, and just in case.

Thanks. As soon as you're well-enough recovered, make especial note
of the Debug/Reload GUI entry -- it makes it very easy to tinker with
a dialog without having to restart FlightGear to see every change.

I've actually added a general reinit facility for FlightGear
subsystems, but most subsystems haven't been modified to support it
yet. In time, we should be able to reinitialize anything -- 3D
models, keyboard bindings, radio frequencies, or even scenery --
without stopping the program. I thought the GUI was a good first
candidate.

All the best,

David

I think this one belongs properly in src/Main/fg_commands.cxx. I've
added it to my TODO queue.

Hi,

I must say the new GUI is comming along nicely.
It realy makes my hands itch to get to work on it ...
