Re: [Flightgear-devel] Building FlightGear (not finding metakit)
I did a little more checking on this, and I looked through the December FG-Devel archives. I tried changing LD_LIBRARY_PATH and using the --with-metakit=/usr/local/lib with no avail. Also, when I build and install metakit it installs libmk4.a into /usr/local/lib. Not libmk4.so. Any ideas on what could be causing this/ideas for a solution? [Flightgear-devel] Building FlightGear (not finding metakit)
Hello everyone. First off, I'd just like to say that FlightGear is a great piece of software. Build setup: Cygwin as of today. Anyway, I was building it today and everything was going smoothly until I started the final FlightGear build (CVS as of today). I did the ./autogen.sh and then my ./configure. Anyway, here's an excerpt: checking for plib PSL scripting support... no checking mk4.h usability... yes checking mk4.h presence... yes checking for mk4.h... yes checking for metakit 2.4.3 or newer... wrong version configure: error: Install metakit 2.4.3 or later first. Or, the compiler may not be finding your libmk4.so library. Please check the config.log file for specific details of the failure if you believe you have the correct metakit version. Also, look up this issue in the FlightGear FAQ. However, I already installed metakit 2.4.3 using the normal configure/make/make install. I looked deeper into the config.log file and found that it was looking for libmk4.so which was never even created by the make process. Thinking maybe it was just a faulty setup, I tried metakit 2.4.8. That didn't work either. Any suggestions? -Chris Reichow [EMAIL PROTECTED] __ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail Plus - Powerful. Affordable. I've been very impressed with the scenery. Even the private grass strips are in the database. I drove by New Castle Glider Club's field three or four times in my car. I never knew it was there until someone (successfully) tried to get me hooked on gliders. I almost fell out of my chair when I saw it in FlightGear. :-) Good job! -Luke On Fri, 2003-01-24 at 17:51, Curtis L. Another aspect of LOD rendering is you can't use OpenGL > lighting since geometry is always changing, so lightmaps must be used > for lighting. Vertex morphing is required so the terrain looks not > changing. In case you are interested, there is all the pieces for a view-dependent LOD engine in the GTS library (http://gts.sf.net). It is not restricted to regular (e.g. quadtree) data but can deal with arbitary 3D triangulated surfaces (which would allow for the current approach for road/rivers etc... in flightgear). It would even be conceivable to include buildings etc... as part of the LOD terrain (i.e. the same engine would deal with the LOD for both terrains and buildings). I don't think it would be too difficult to integrate this into flightgear for a first stage demo which would only display a limited area (an area which would fit in main memory). Tha main issue to be solved is the paging/caching mechanism for larger (global) data sets. There is litterature on this however and I could give you references if you are interested. I don't have personally much time to invest on this but I would be happy to help on the GTS side of things.
