Re: [Flightgear-devel] Unable to view scenery in Flightgear, OK in Atlas
Jason, Newer versions of fgfs have a command line switch "--fgviewer" that will show a tile to you without need of starting all the flightgear systems. $fgfs --fgviewer YGDH.btg.gz What I am seeing is all your terrain is coming out flat and in sea/water texture. By zcatting one of you terrain files through strings: $zcat Scenery/Terrain/e150s30/e150s30/5410562.btg.gz | strings The only texture listed is ocean. Your missing something with the terragear build chain. Re: [Flightgear-devel] New Sound system committed
Little mistake : The wind sound, which wasn't audible before, is now vastly over the sound of the rumble, which I had mistakenly thought was the wind (it makes for a better wind on wings sound, from this point of hearing approximately between my ears) The wind sample we use is indeed very saturated, and was drowned by the rumble sample before. Do you have an overview of how differently are the sounds .xml configs interpreted vs the previous sound implementation ? What has changed in that regard, if anything, and would you by any chance know why there could be such a huge difference ? Because same sound config, wildly different results. Thanks in advance for your insights. So never mind : sound quality might well be as good at it ever was (or even better), sorry for that, didn't mean to muddle things up. Cheers, Nic -- Be Kind. [Flightgear-devel] about yasim's rotor model
Hi, i'm playing a little with Yasim FDM for helicopters, modifying some xml parameters. I run my Flightgear 1.9 on ubuntu 9.04_64 i found i can't change the rotation of the rotor. I understood changing the "ccw" parameter in the yasim configuration file from 1 to 0 in any helicopter then the rotor turns in clockwise, but it doesn't happen. similar attempt was made at: http://www.flightgear.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=5251&st=0&sk=t&sd=a&start=30for a "mi-6" model. When executed, it seems like a clockwise rotor, uses the ccw="0" parameter, but it really is not clockwise, just the rotor 3D object turns clockwise (the 3D rotational axis is z negative), the main rotor is still counterclockwise (/rotors/main/blade/position-deg increases, a clockwise rotor should decrease this value?). does the ccw="0" change the "Dissymmetry of lift" effect anyway? thanks (sorry my limited english) -Cesar Gaston -- Come build with us! Re: [Flightgear-devel] New Sound system committed
Ditto here on windows vista 64 using OpenAL SDK (for this build). The wind noise has changed "texture", as if it was heavily saturated, while it use to be a nice wind sound. I guess maybe volume is too high on it. And that can be tweaked I guess through the xml file. It really doesn't sound the same as my Oct 2nd build, all things being equal (same data) We're not quite back where we were in sound quality, but at least sounds seems to be all working now. Haven't done a debug build yet, will advise if it still crashes. Sound is a bit sensitive to camera movement right now, from a quick "hearing test" :) Quick note : the volume slider is pretty much useless at the moment, maybe to a change in the volume attenuation scale ? It only has effect in the leftmost part of the slider (so low end of volume) , maybe the last 1/8th of the slide, and then brutally diminishes sound. Before that, no discernible difference in volume. That said, again thanks for the hard work Erik (and everyone else) Cheers, Nic On Thu, Oct 29, 2009 at 1:17 PM, Alan Teeder wrote: > It compiles and sounds are back! [Flightgear-devel] t-shirt give away
Over on the flightgear forums we are organizing a t-shirt give away contest. We are doing this on the forums because we have the ability to create polls and let people vote there. http://flightgear.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=6252 The way this works is we took nominations for names of notable recent contributors to the project. We ended up with about 50 names in 5 minutes and then discovered that our poll software has a maximum of 10 options. So what you will see is 10 deserving names, but only 10 of the 100's or 1000's that could be on the list. Fear not! I hope to make this a monthly event, and I hope that everyone keeps in mind that the whole purpose of this is to have fun and not get too bogged down with some of the details that we could get bogged down in. Torsten's wife designed the t-shirt graphics (with some valuable input from Torsten and I.) You can see the design here: http://www.cafepress.com/fgfs To help you see some of the finer points of the design: we have a simple paper airplane that flies in, does a loop, and then is trailing off in a classic phugoid manuever ... (you can just feel the geeky multi-level intelligence oozing from this design!) The flight path is actually source code from the project (we have to distribute the source code right?) :-) All of this is set against the words "TEAM FLIGHTGEAR" in big bold letters. It is SO cool!!! If you want to order something yourself, feel free. I would like to point out that I've set the price on all these items to be the minimum possible that cafe press allows. This means that you are seeing the base price of these items and all that money goes to cafe press to produce and ship the item ... there is no extra markup that comes back to anyone else at the end of the month. My goal is simply to make these items as accessible as I can. There are probably cheaper ways to do t-shirts, but cafe press doesn't require me to print up 100 in advance and ship them myself, and their quality is pretty good; don't expect these to fade out on the first wash; they should last for a good while. So please head over to the FlightGear forums and vote for your favorite developer. It's wide open still ... only two votes separate 1st and last place right now! Go TEAM! Ok I removed a whole bunch of options from the CFLAGS line which was: -march=athlon -msse3 -mfpmath=sse -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer -falign-jumps=16 -falign-loops=16 -falign-functions=64 -mno-push-args -maccumulate-outgoing-args it's now: -O3 -Wall -Werror=format-security -D_REENTRANT And now I get the division by zero in orientation that Csaba described. It's fixed locally but I till don't get the NaN's in the position code that Scott describes. Erik -- Come build with us! Hmm, an orientation vector of (0,0,0) means omnidirectional sound and is valid for OpenAL. The strange part is that it does return (0,0,0) for me every time.. > Perhaps this explains why the most recent cvs update produces; Not really I updated the initialization of the sound sample position to prevent NaN's (by initializing it to SGGeod::fromDeg(0,0) but that places it far, far away from the sound manager that was still at (0,0) in OpenAL location. I've updated that code in SimGear and added a third test program that tests (two) different lat/lon positions. Erik -- Come build with us! [Flightgear-devel] FYI: kernel patch for X52 joystick/throttle
The Saitek X52 Flight Control System (joystick, throttle, etc.) is rather nice and widely used, except that it has been unusable with all kernels from 2.6.28-15 to the present. This is strictly a kernel bug, not a hardware problem or a plib bug or a FGFS bug ... but it affects people in the FGFS community so I thought I would mention it here. If you didn't know where to look, it might take you a long time to find this bug ... but once found, it is easy to fix. The patch is here: http://bugzilla.kernel.org/attachment.cgi?id=23054 with some discussion here: http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=14049 This is an "out of the frying pan and into the fire" situation. In kernel 2.6.28.14 and before, Wacom tablets were incorrectly identified as being joysticks. The heuristic that "fixed" that problem broke the X52. Maybe eventually somebody will come up with a clean, non-heuristic bit of code that will reliably distinguish tablets from joysticks ... but in the meantime, if you have an X52 and don't have a tablet, you want to apply the patch mentioned above. -- Come build with us!
