I do believe I said Jill of hearts and spades. I'm not up for any

Actually I was looking to uh repurpose existing Jills I once made for a

Re: RE: FLUXLIST: bands and things

2004-06-25 Thread David-Baptiste Chirot

Dear Badgergril:  Thank you always for your deovted ness to all things Badger!
I should send you some Wisconsin Badgers things!--
Oh yes i would love a copy of that book--illiterate--how punk!--
Monoman was a good friend of mine for many years--
yes back then i was a hard core vinyl junkie for sure!
even used to rent booth at record conventions and hustle for gems--
myself and another man were the most fanatic coilectors of james brown in town for some time--we would even be going door to door to houses in the various neighborhoods asking about old records people had sitting around--he eventually became a minister in a church there and gave up record collecting as it was listening to devil music--would only hear gospel music--(like Little Richard in many of his incarnations--)
a very fascinating sub culture--i got in to it via working/co-managing a new/used/rare record store right at edge of Harvard Square in Cambridge, MA, right on MASS. AVE--
i really got into collecting sixties punk/garage music and is part of friendship i had with Monoman--saw the very first show he ever did of The Lyres after DMZ broke up--they opened for Lou Reed at the Paradise club--blew me away and i was hooked-- MSN Toolbar provides one-click access to Hotmail from any Web page – FREE download!
Dear Georg:
If it is a punk band is often better to have just one or two words in name--
i used to play in a hard core punk band we were Junkyard Angels--then decided that sounded too much like a bunch of junkies, so then was Depth Charge, and finally someone said let's just call it ATTACK!--
which abt summed it up!
i used to contribute to lot of little punk/hard core zines--and even had a band named after one of my little "Leisure Books", 4 pp collaged zines--the name was BIG DAY--
they were in the classic punk tradition going back to Sixties bands like the Troggs ("Wild Thing") and the Seeds ("Pushin too Hard")--two chords! NOT the obligatory three!
there are hundreds of compilations and reissues now of the great great true garage punk greats/unknowns greater than knowns out now--in the Eighties there was Sixties revival of both the punk and psyche sounds and lot new great bands out of that--
if you come across them check out DMZ which then became The Lyres, from Boston, with Jeff Connolly ("Monoman" for his obsession with record collecting only mono lps & 45s)--a truly great singer and organ player raving away on ancient creaky Farfisas--
or even earlier punk like the Sonics from Seattle who had one of the all time greatest screaming singers, Gerry Roslie i think was his name-- way ahead of their time--("Psycho", "She's A Witch")--or the Johnny Burnette Trio--another awesome screaming singer--Punkabilly from late fifties--and great great guitarist, James Burton--

Re: FLUXLIST: Address book & new projects

2004-06-25 Thread Wojtek Dlugosz
You've brought me back my faith! I thought that everyone already have forgoten
about this TaPPaD project. if you want to send me some mats/pads/coasters or
whatever you can be sure you'll get some Polish one's back. Great to hear
you've been to Poland! However, till 1975 it has changed in here a bit a beer
is always a beer 'a piwo jest zawsze piwem' - maybe some Polish lessons?
Sad news, though - brewery in my town Bytom - which is on the South of Poland
 - has recently been demolished/riped off into
pieces.. Well, it was closed for a long time but It's always a great loss
especially when such building is near your house. Bytom is no longer a Brew
city... so maybe beer doesn't taste the same anymore?

Cheers,
Wojtek.

Re: FLUXLIST: Address book & new projects

2004-06-25 Thread David-Baptiste Chirot

Dear Wojtek:
i have some beer coasters (mats/pads) to send to you--these are from our city here, Milwaukee, Wisconsin--home of Miller Beer and a host of others--the old Schlitz abd Pabst Blue Ribbon for example closed in recent years--no many many micro-breweries also--
ones sending i found recently going through a promising looking dumpster filled with lot of great things for my art works--these are pabst blue ribbon, genuine Milwaukee beer coasters--!
(one of names for Milwaukee is Brew City--and our baseball team is the Brewers--our baseball stadium is Miller Park--we are also th home of Harley Davidson Motorcyles--and the City of Festivals--we have a festioval on large scale very weekend from begiing of June into September pus huge 11 Day Summer Fest which began last night with immesne fire works--)
i have made several things over time with beer coasters--one thing i did was cut notches in them so one could join them together and build little twoers and so forth--all with painted beer coasters, and then add on names or words, letters--a visual sound poem in three dimensions--
they are good for painting on--i used spray paint, model car paint, stage blood some nail polish and some collage and my two children who live in milwaukee then much younger added on several contributions--a great deal of fun--
i have been in Poland two times--in 1975--in Wroclaw and one day in Warszawa--
i loved it there--i am tryijng to rmeber the few Polish words i stil know so here is one very apropos
PIWO!   (beer)!

Ladies and Lords of the anarpunkeyology--
oh yes i remember Crass! as you say they were kind of a wild mix of hippiedom and punkdowm and did many tracts very interesting takes on anarchism--that came with the albums--
in his book THE ASSAULT ON CULTURE Stewart Home writes about them--it has been so long since i read the book--i wonder if anything flux related might be in it--there is lot about neoism which he was involved with--i just found dollar copy of one of his skinhead novels, SLOW DEATH (which was a truly awesome Flamin' Groovies song--but not related to this)--
a book i liked a lot back in the day bfore these things were done to death--SUBCULTURE: A MANUAL OF STYLE by Dick Hebdige--he uses people like Genet, T.S. Eliot, Barthes, etc--at same time lot of good things re punk and the rockers etc--the mods--(think of the Jam who have mod style of early Who and Kinks--) but book written before them--)
for the usa--Maximum Rock and Rol was great zine--also the erratic KICKS--best rock and rol journal ever--focused almost exculsively on pre-1967 as they thought as many do that rock and rol died that year--turned into "rock"--
long live the Legendary Stardust Cowboy--but even far wilder--Hasil Adkins! not to mention one of the great truly out there--the Quaser i think of Rock and Roll--(or maybe Little Richard usurped that)--Esquerita!--cjheckl out if you can his fantastic sound pome with clashing baniong clattering nerve rattling bone shaking piano--"The Voola"!

FLUXLIST: Post-Solstice Performance Plan

2004-06-25 Thread secret fluxus
An accident on our way to see Alison Knowles perform in Newcastle led us to
several weeks of reflection and dialogue on the nature of Secret Fluxus as a
performance group. The result is a change in our method of organizing and
realizing performances.

Until now, we have performed as a full group of eight members, sometimes
with added friends and colleagues. For the nest period, we will work as solo
performers or in groups of two or three.

We are shifting from full concerts to site-specific events. This means fewer
large programmes and more single pieces. This shift will enable us to
perform more often and it will allow us to travel more widely, realizing
events in different geographical locations.

We will continue to publish notices after each performance.
Later this summer, we will publish an account of our work to date along with
a discussion of our current thinking and our plans.

FLUXLIST: many questions

2004-06-25 Thread brian
i sincerly hope this helps and is the last (not on my part) dedicated post

1: there are three projects that i have proposed in the past week.

a mulitple
send me your physcial address.
the ball starts rolling.

a deck of cards
52 cards.
i will supply the 2 jokers.
each card being a sound piece.
length: from 0 second modification to 1 minute.
0 second modification: a word/picture.
email me first on which card/s you represent so as to escape multiples.
i would prefer a sound piece.
any medium besides DAT is accepted.
send to: brian
 7133 N. Mesa #18
 El Paso, TX 79912
this has nothing to do with Candace's Fluxus deck.
it is a stand alone object piece.
there will be two different versions of the final deck.
52 3" cd-r/w discs version and a 5" cd/rw.
these are not playing cards save if you want to scratch the discs.
the 52 disc packaging is being designed, and will be hand built.
the 5" disc/s is being designed and will de different from the 3" version.
NOTE: the cards aren't made of cardboard.
  they aren't real cards.
the design on top of the 3" discs version will be the image of the
card itself.
create a sound/word piece and send that to me with what card you
represent.

the Toy Box Notebook
hand copied and original configuration.
notebook created during the initial Toy Box project.
on request.
no limit.
hopefully the original group of people will join in.
needed photos/sound files of your toy contributions.
will be put on disc and included with notebook.

i will send this as is, but i gather it gets format convoluted when it
reaches you.

thanks,

brian

Re: FLUXLIST: update and tatoos ....

2004-06-25 Thread brian
the 3" discs are the small cd-r/w discs compared to the normal (5?) cd-r/w
discs out there.
mighty.
hmm...hmm...
that sounds good.
please refer to my has Mighty Brian from now on.
please DON'T.

the 3" version of the deck of cards is going to be great.
particulary awsome in scope and content.
the normal disc set is also sweet, but the 3" is the primary.
i just can't belive that more would not like to contribute.
but, as stated, those who have started with the deck will be primary players
if nothing pans out.
more focus level and better brainstorming.
the deck is going to be constantly up for submissions, while the multiple is
contigent upon supplies obtained.
to keep the deck up then there is more chance for stragglers and the lovely
curmudgeons of Fluxus.
sounds like i can't make up my mind.
just tossing the ball between hands before someone is out.

hope that helps with your questions.

could anyone direct me to other groups that might find the multiples worthy
of participation?
thanks,

brian

David BC,

Earlier this year I worked on a book about record collecting (called Vinyl
Junkies)that Monoman contributed to quite a bit. Are you a vinyl collector? Do you
want a copy of the book (it's not very good really. The author is borderline
illiterate)?

Lemme know

BG

The contributions continue to amble in to the FFFO

He also seems, however, to have rewarded himself
