RE: blank-or-not-blank

2002-01-17 Thread Arved Sandstrom

This is one scenario where it would be great to get the page-position="last"
condition implemented, so that you could have empty static-contents on that
last page. Because everything else is in place.

Doing this is not as easy as it sounds, assuming it sounds easy to anyone
(:-)), which is why it hasn't happened yet. Any takers?

Subject: blank-or-not-blank

Hi

My problem is that the last page of a page-sequence has no flow but
static-content is still produced. I have set blank-or-not-blank="blank"
as part of the conditional-page-master-reference and forced an even
number of pages to print using forced-page-count="end-on-even" as part
of the same page-sequence.

I guess what I really want is 3 pages + 1 completely blank page.
Unfortuneately the number of pages prior to processing is not known, but
I must always have an even number of pages.

As best as I can tell blank-or-not-blank should deliver what I'm after,
but it doesn't in fop. Am I wrong? (This has happened many times before)

Cheers

Tim

Yes, this is because you saved your file in win1252 (default on Western European

Hmmm... maybe if you use a real Unicode font with the Euro character inthe right place... Sadly I don't know much about fonts, but I'm tryingto learn... pointers to more information in English or German areappreciated!

I have just solved the problem as I tried using Acrobat 4.0 instead of my
old Acrobat 3.0 (unfortunately, it was my default).
Acrobat version 3.0 does not support the euro (and the font was not embedded).

I did a simple test: create a text file with just one Euro sign in
Win2k, then booted into Red Hat Linux 7.2 (dual boot box) and checked

I found out about 8859-15 whike trying to get the euro symbol in Linux.

Yes, sadly I'm not a language genius, it took me a long learing curve to

Hi All:

Can someone please provide me or explain a situation where
we have borders collapsing for table, table-columns, table-rows
or table-cells.

I am trying to create such a scenario for a series of tests
but just can't come out with any.

Greetings,

Does it actually work in FOP ? I had hoped to use it to circumvent the
keep-next and orphans bugs

This feature in my file behaves properly with Renderx but not FOP 0.20.2...

P. Andries

P.-S. : Why do I always have to modify master-name to master-reference
when transfering a file working with Fop to Renderx.?
Is FOP 0.20.2 not implementing the same XSL 1.0 spec as Renderx ?

For years I've needed to do this with my PDF books in order to offer
stacked double-sided copies of the publication.

I have been *more* than satisfied (ecstatic?) with Quite Imposing:

   http://www.quite.com

It's the best investment in my publishing process. I'm running Quite
Imposing version 1.5b(EN), not even Quite Imposing Plus, and I can do all
the rearrangements of pages that I need through simple and straightforward
GUI interfaces that figure out all the wierd page numberings needed for
different options.

I highly recommend it and take the time to cite in the colophon of my books
and instructor-led training material.

Change page sequence after generating a pdf-document

2002-01-17 Thread Stefan Schmied

Hi!

We want to change the sequence of pages AFTER the generation of the
PDF-document with FOP.
Our intention is to publish a document like a book, so we have to produce
a sequence of pages like : 1, 4, 2, 3... ( not 1,2,3,4 ...).
It is possible to alternate the sequence of the pages?
In other words : It is possible to have some influence on the
PDF-serialization process ?

Thanks for any kind of help!

Place this in the Page-sequence on the top of your source.

TIFF/CCITT Image Compression

2002-01-17 Thread Manuel Mall

A few month ago Eric Dalquist added support for storing JPEG images in DCT
compressed format within a PDF file. This was triggered by his requirement
to have PDF files containing many JPEG images.

I have got a similar problem but I need to store many TIFF / CCITT Group 4
encoded images within a PDF file. Similar to JPEG the PDF format does
support CCITT compression.

So I went ahead, grabbed Fop-0.20.2RC and added support for storing CCITT
Group 3/4 encoded TIFF files in PDF CCITTFaxDecode format.

I have done that using code from the JAI codecs to decode the TIFF
directories, therefore this enhancement is JAI dependent.

If anyone is interested I am happy to provide the changes to individuals or
if there is general interest to give the changes to FOP developers with CVS
update access for integration. So far I have tested it only with a very
limited set of TIFF files and therefore I don't think it is ready for prime
time yet.

While doing all this a related question popped up:

In the current system JPEG images appear to be triple encoded, eg. the PDF
contains:
/Filter [ /ASCII85Decode /FlateDecode /DCTDecode ]
This seems to be a bit of an overkill and a simple
/Filter /DCTDecode
should suffice and make the files even smaller or is there a reason behind
using the triple encoding scheme?

fop-dev@xml.apache.org

2002-01-17 Thread Software AG

Hi there.

I faced the same problem, which means I cannot print documents that contain
& inside the text.
Unforunately I cannot use character or entity references, as the document
has already been parsed by Xerces, transformed by Xalan and I pass the DOM
over to FOP.

Does that mean I have to exchange any occurrence of "&" inside the DOM into
"&"? This would result in a serialized XML document like this:
"&"
Why does FOP care for that character at all? It should be a parser issue
only.

This topic has been recently discussed at length, even though
it hasn't really anything to do with FOP or servlets (think
about it...).

If your clients use IEx, the following could be of help:

As for Netscape/Mozilla/other browsers, you probably have to
use an applet or plugin which can start the Acrobat Reader,
some hints about the latter
