Thanks Ishwor for reviewing Arduino and liked your idea of creating
something cool besides toys.

As Nepaluino session was presented at Barcampktm and found a lot of
interest group, exited about Nepaluino hardware and it's community.
I wished same sort of interest group from FOSSNepal too... but a bit
unsatisfactory threads...
yesterday, I talked with Jitendra and he was interested on running a
FKK session on Nepaluino.
I'm just looking some interested faces at Nepaluino.

2010-08-04 Thread Ujwal (RUBBOT)
We are expecting a community for Nepaluino. I believed that there may
be some interested faces from FOSS-Nepal community who wished to join
us.
Nepaluino is 100% clone of Arduino. A detailed about Arduino is
attached here and many more at www.arduino.cc

Arduino is an open-source electronics prototyping platform based on
flexible, easy-to-use hardware and software. It's intended for
artists, designers, hobbyists, and anyone interested in creating
interactive objects or environments.

Arduino can sense the environment by receiving input from a variety of
sensors and can affect its surroundings by controlling lights, motors,
and other actuators. The microcontroller on the board is programmed
using the Arduino programming language (based on Wiring) and the
Arduino development environment (based on Processing). Arduino
projects can be stand-alone or they can communicate with software on
running on a computer (e.g. Flash, Processing, MaxMSP).

[FOSS-Nepal] Are Linux application bigger ?

2008-06-01 Thread Ujwal (RUBBOT)

Hard to imagine... LInux appllication are bigger than windows.
As i know flash player 10 beta is 3.7 mb for linux and 1.7 mb for
windows?
3.7 - 1.7 = 2.0MiB
two times bigger. Might be the adobe developers are not familiar with
linux or they don't know programming or they pasted same code two
times or so to create flash player for linux. As i tested it worked
for mozilla only neither for Opera or nor Konqueror. although it's a
Beta. A lots of bug with flash player , last time windows was hacked
due to flash player's vunarabilities.
So why not to give off flash or Silverlight to something new bigger
and greater and perfect in some extent.
The ultimate HTML5 + svg plasmoids with script support + phonon media
streaming.
This is Kde/Qt part what from GNOME or microsoft or adobe or any?

Soft to think..
In fact linux application mostly never provides libraries so they are
too small,
The XMMS is less than 700KiB, same thing in windows will be more than
a MiB with libraries it need. Linux application are extreamly smaller
without libraries.
I don't think giving every application with attached libraries is good
in linux, cuz it's a way to create much more vunarabilities. I don't
recommend to give application with libraries.
Windows and Mac provides libraries with their application but why not
Linux?
Might be windows crashes much with non supported libraries with in
them.
Even mac crashed if you did a wrong update.
but what about linux? it crashes very least in stable and crashes the
Most (world record in crashing) in unstable.
The things behind this post is also why not to provide libraries with
application like Mac and Windows in linux too?

[FOSSNepal] least fools day.

2008-04-01 Thread Ujwal (RUBBOT)

late night with jokes that say's still more ( somthing is lacking).
{
In recent studies from a random and important university it has been
found that KDE project supports privative software. As the studies
say: almost a 87% of developers prefer Microsoft Windows Notepad to
Kate. Same happens with Microsoft Windows Media Player to Amarok in a
heavier percentage: 93%.
On the other hand, as the study points out it is really amazing that
almost a 100% of KDE developers prefer C# to C++. As the asked
developers answered, almost a 96% would rewrite KDE in plain C.
The 24% of developers would vote No if they were asked to support
the OOXML spec. On the other hand, a 76% would vote Yes.
Anyway, what's really impressive on the study is that we are working
with SVN when the 105% of developers prefer CVS.
Happy fools day :)

[FOSSNepal] If we can't trust Open Source....

2007-12-02 Thread Ujwal (RUBBOT)

It's a good part for us that we've been trusting many opensource
softwares for years and over. I hope we won't loose our trust for
another hundreds of years. However, sometime something happens which
let us think about trusting open-source deeply. last time when i got a
chance to look at Mac Os x human interface guide suddenly something
touched in me about Open-Source. What Mac developers thinks is, user
should never confuse on what they were using. It might be pressing a
button to showing a dialog box or even while configuring internet or
devices. The thing Mac is trying to convince their developers that
standardization is the most what lots of users want. We in the world
of linux got many softwares for Different types for different
purposes. We got many Desktop environments. Each and every one dealing
their users in their way. Now the point is a user never uses desktop
environment all the time he got. The thing is the software they got.
How about standardzing applications on linux, how about getting human
interface guidelines in Linux too (I know OLPC got one). what about
feeling no problem in configuring internet either in (suse, debian,
fedora etc). The same way in Everything. I know it's even harder to
standardize Linux, because of more than 1000 of different Distros.
We can't say your are standard and you are the best. Might be we'll
get such more problem in linux, we'll are sure to solve each one.
presently I got another problem I thought Debian is one of my
Choice.. better in every aspect. Last time i couldn't be able to
compile my kernel in my way i used as in previous time. Later i got
make-kpkg. I found my new kernel ready to go. Sooner during booting
i got problem no login ... just restarts x-server i couldn't be able
to get console login, found that kernel is trying to get keystrokes
and then print on console instead of giving me FULL access. Anyway not
rocket science problem. I used old kernel. everthing was back. later I
copied all my datas from Desktop to a 2 GiB pendrive . deleted
everything from my Desktop. after burning a disc. i backed everything
from pendrive to my Desktop. once again something is not good to me.
Each and every file is 0 byte. The most amazing thing is the filename
and properties is same beside nothing. I was not upset, even though
i'd loosed everything in pendrive too. there are some of my important
documents and i can't recover again. I thought it's my own fault. My
fault is I believed in something. I still want to believe it more. Now
i'm downloading ubuntu gusty (derived from debian). If the same cases
is for you and your using Debian then what would you wanna Do?
Believe me or Open-source. Still open-source softwares are best and
good.. still there is something we don't like. can we start to make
softwares(/linux) a standard as like W3C.. ? might be we can if we
tried.
 regards
Ujwal ( as i found debian 4.0 rc0 and debian 4.0 rc1 are not stable
as it is written. Found 100% crashing in every computer i installed).

[FOSSNepal] Re: Ubuntu 7.04 Problems.

2007-09-28 Thread Ujwal (RUBBOT)

well good days were off. i don't think those days are good. I never
had such trouble and problem in my whole life.
This is a truth and fact to be told. The detail fact lies over here.
i'm never been good enough in programming even never been good in
system adminstation of linux. I tried to conquer all of this, but i
did a lot of mistake. Today is 7thday plus i'm using windows, preety
cool.Cool with most of my devices. Even seems far better in
performance. The day i started linux , was remembering. IT started
when i had my processor heated upto extreme temperature, Really i
don't like that. I found linux free of that. I got this group even
inspiring. Good things to say i've missed only one program ok linux ka
kura and only one in foss ka kura. I have my lots of friends, i think
about hundreds to whom i've told the good things of linux, let them
use it. They experienced a lot of trouble and i helped them fixing
them. Really looking those days are good enough.I've had many funs
with BERYL AND COMPIZ. I have my many time used to know a lot of
linuxes and system which is good for me. I really loved those. But i
also have a separate story. There was some of my days i couldn't trust
gnome baker which broked my two cds and a dvd. There was a day when
i upgraded my system and lastly found many programs crashed
unexpectedly.Even got troubles while watching films, and many more ooh
god. These days why i shifted to windows after 6month plus without
windows instaled in my comp ? a real question. I believed in linux,
there a lot of good guys who says thats the best ever, and so do i.
nut now ooh. Recently i've a webcam from sonix with sn9c201 and spca
video chip. There was no driver and i thought to write my self.
Immediately i installed windows just to check webcam, it's easy to
install windows. The thing i need in linux to write device driver is
install a new system with special kernal compiled from source on my
comp. I talked with jwalanta for ubuntu studio to have better graphics
in linux. Got burned 867mb in dvd but found while installing, that
ubuntu-studio installation dvd is crap. It loads kernal and search
device drive finds all the device and driver and lastly make a error
regarding cdrom. it couldn't find a driver for cdrom. how could it
happen that it reads all things from the same dvd and lastly makes a
error of not availability of cdrom driver. i losed ubuntu-studio. i
even got dreamlinux ,suse and many more each and every time every
distro have at least a single problem. I hanged over a week and many
hours of some precious days.Today i got the kubuntu cd from canonical
group. firstly it started and lastly commented that i couldn't have a
floppy device. OH MY GOODNESS. how could kubuntu says kubuntus
requirement like this? i got my floppy plugged for this, this time it
goes on and again it reports that it couldn't access tty so it let me
hanged on initramfs. I couldn't tell to anyone except this groups. I
want some recommendations from this group. I think and believe this
that the next time is the only time i'll believe in linux, if that
time too i got this type of hanging then surely i'll loose this linux
stuffs. I want shishir dai to download debian stable 4.0 for me. and
other too. hey shishir dai, can you download this for me. I hoped
that other people in this group will recommend me for the right
decision, i need to choose. i hope that EMINEM is sure to sing this
lyrics in his next song.
HEY HEY RECOMMEND ME WHAT I CAN DO OR WHAT I SHOULD DO.

What a load of crap!!..from a cheapo!! you want everything to be Open
Source and probably Free.. you FOSS maniac.. Softwares should never be
Open Source as it beats the purpose.. because they will never be
 documented in a

This statement is coming from whom ? Bill Gates?
This kind of statement are everyday remarks I see on Slashdot, digg etc...
I find this to be a fallacy because it explicitly tries to compare FOSS
to proprietary software and prove (without references and historical
data) that proprietary is the way to go. But let me walk you through
some of the key points about foss software. :-)

First of all, if a programmer doesn't want to look at the source code,
he/she ISN'T a programmer! Maybe they should altogether change their job
to maybe Chef or something. Rather than being a SOFTWARE DEVELOPER.

In open source world, code itself speaks as a documentation. This is
Bazaar style of development. This is what makes FOSS Programmer better
than ANY propreitary programmer (this is a gross generalisation let me
 remind you)

specialized manner and most of the people who customize don't follow
 coding standards.

Oh, you are now talking about coding standards ? haha.. Coding standards
should be OPEN and PUBLISHED. What coding standards are you talking
about? ISO? NIST? or that university level coding standards called
XP/Incremental development or is it Unified process? If a coding
standard is local to a company, you can't expect that same level of
standard amongst international open source developers. It'll by far be
more sophisticated and well developed in the case of Open source
software development. Beat me to it!

Firstly, it is not possible to understand design pattern and
architectural style from codes. Codes are implementation of Design.

YES, you can understand design patterns et. al from codes. That is what
REVERSE ENGINEERING is. Everyday, open source programmers have proven
this! Open source programmers DO NOT, yes! DO NOT have access to source
codes of proprietary systems (drivers, some binary blobs and
compatibility layers like nvidia's display driver), yet they do REVERSE
ENGINEERING solely based on blackbox, input-output bound executions
using OPEN SOURCE Tools and methodology. If you care to look at the
myriad of tools available to them, you'll know about it but no one can
come to you and stuff it in your brain for you.
[search terms, hexdump, pax, valgrind, strace, ptrace, gdb]

So when the Design Documents are not understood, its better to leave
the development to the big boys..

Who are the big boys ? The propreitary system developers ? hahah.. These
I find are baseless arguments based on a very small view of the open
source by someone [it seems] who is not even .01% sure what open
 philosophy is.

Secondly, the only mechanism for hackers to uncover vulnerabilities is
to perform black box testing.. if they had the code, think what kind of
viruses they would be able to create?? There was a project some time
 back to create

Getting access to source code DOES NOT CREATE VIRUS!
Getting access to source code instead provides more careful observations
by thousand and thousands of people who test that software. In effect,
that software becomes better in terms of stability. By the stupid
argument you've made, if you care to look at the algorithms available
for myriad of open source crypto, they are published and available to
study and use. Yet, only time shows how strong they have been. There
have been numerous bugs filed, patches released and the development just
goes towards greater heights with 1000 and 1000s of prying eyes and
eager programmers trying to break the system and then share the
results. Academics have long followed this way and it'll continue that
way even if closed source company disagree. That is how we do in
Gnu/Linux world. We get the source, compile it and make it to work for
ourselves. If we find some bug, we try to file a bug and if we can,

So, whats the point ? There are so many closed source antivirus

No! They are merely trying to foolproof their antivirus tools. If you
look over at clamav project, you'll see that volunteers send in sample

[FOSS Nepal] Re: Commented handwriting recognition in C

2007-05-20 Thread Ujwal (RUBBOT)

Well First what i can say about the program is this is under GPL
and ...
and those segmentation fault is caused due to unavailability of
(A.txt,B.txt,...Z.txt) files, that it would need to compare it would be
better to get all those files from ( ). This recognition is pretty
cool if you uses same method of writing i mean stroke should be under
law ... for 'B' draw straight line from bottom to top and then from
the top draw 3 like curve to make 'B' press recognise and it's all,
you can easily change this to recognise as your wished stroked
handwriting. Even in some minutes you can port that to any language
lipi, nepali english and so on. I need some tools to check the
performance and compare out it from those general method of
recognition like neural networks. I hope you all guys will co-ordinate
to make this better, might be the best handwriting recognition ever.
what i believe is this can be faster that neural networks technique if
some improvements are given.

We all know that often governments are the biggest consumers esp in

to go OpenSource with it's database. Now we need to leverage this for FOSS

has caught up. The thing that they want is support. If we can get the HLCIT
converted to Open Source, we can show how much taxpayer's money is being
wasted(?) because unless people really need/use a feature, they shouldn't be
paying for it. Let's do a research essentially... (ok cut to the chase)
because there's more money with government works for Foss Nepal and getting
a system of that scale to work on Open Source software will mean that it can
be a great achievement for FOSS community towards making us more enterprise
friendly in due time and especially when the bigger names (IBM?) come to
 Nepal.

The thing is, let's focus on people who really want to go open source get
the maximum benefit out of it. Let's do some research into it... let's find
out for sure the weaknesses and strengths of Open Source solutions, what we
can get from the enterprise versions and how it can be worked on... It
surely sounds daunting... but foss nepal will get lost in the sea of bidders
(from Oracle Pros, ol' enemy Microsoft and others) unless there's money in
it. We have worked on databases time and again... it's time to get things
that you all have reviewed and perhaps review yourself so that we really can
have a vision in long run in this sector as well...

I'll be posting some of the interesting things ... err... as some people

really show what can be done...

Norwegian Standards Council Recommends Mandatory use of ODF and PDF

Norway is the latest European country to move closer to mandatory
government use of ODF (and PDF). According to a press release provided
in translation to me by an authoritative source, Norway now joins
Belgium, Finland, and France (among other nations) in moving towards a
final decision to require such use. The text of the press release, as
well as some of the statements made at the press conference where the
announcement was made, are appended at the end of this blog post.

The Norwegian recommendation was revealed by Minister of Renewal Heidi
Grande Roys, on behalf of the Cabinet-appointed Norwegian Standards
Council. If adopted, it would require all government agencies and
services to use these two formats, and would permit other formats (such
as OOXML) to be used only in a redundant capacity. Reflecting a
pragmatic approach to the continuing consideration of OOXML by ISO/IEC
JTC 1, the recommendation calls for Norway to promote the convergence
of the ODF and OOXML, in order to avoid having two standards covering
  the same usage.

According to the press release, the recommendation will be the subject
of open hearings, with opinions to be rendered to the Cabinet before
August 20 this summer. The Cabinet would then make its own (and in this
case binding) recommendation to the Norwegian government.
