Re: TOC problem
Surbhi, I've never done this specific task, but try the following: 1. Add a blank paragraph to another file. Give the format a unique name and don't use it anywhere else in the book. 2. When you generate the TOC for the first time, include this format. 3. In the TOC's Reference page, define the paragraph's format with a page break, and add the string, "this page has been intentionally left blank". You may have to play around with the properties to get the line to appear as you wish. 4. Update the book again. Linking from an HTML page to a destination in a PDF file
I have a request to establish links from an HTML document on my company's web site to a specific topic within a PDF file produced via FrameMaker. Has anyone done this before? The HTML page summarizes changes in a recent release and references about 100 individual features. Each feature has a number and those numbers appear in the PDF file, but each number appears at least three times and, in some cases, more often. In only one place is the actual text they are wanting to link to. Plus, the (PDF) release document is still changing. I can think of ways to do this by pulling the HTML document into FrameMaker and setting up the links there, then creating HTML (or PDF) output, but I can't think of a good way to do exactly what I'm asked to do other than linking to specific page numbers, which would be time-consuming to set up and difficult to maintain. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. The marker type does not have to named "Filename". You can name it anything you want as long as you define it also in WW. Once again, I'm not sure where in the application. Thanks for the info, Richard. WWStd does actually include Filename marker support... Thank God. But you're right, WWP Standard is rather limited...putting it mildly... It seems that you all use WWP Pro? Or the native Frame XML output maybe? IIRC (it's been a while since I've used WWP), Style Designer is only available in the Professional version of WWP, not the Standard version that's free with FM. (If it were there, you'd simply go to the Style menu and select Designer, or click the corresponding toolbar button.) The free Standard version of WWP is rather limited. You can generate output using one of the included templates, but you can't do much to modify those templates. Style Designer is the tool for modifying templates (defining new styles, adding macros, etc.). So the question is whether the pre-built templates in the Standard edition include support for the Filename marker, because I don't think you can add it if they don't. Richard -- Richard G. Hi David, It worked fine, thanks. I've used a Filename element which auto-mapped with the Filename WW style. And the output looks fine so far (I've only generated part of the files). Structured FM: Conversion Table Question
Unless I am misreading the table (entirely possible, given the reformatting that this list forces), it appears that you do not have anything that is being mapped to the Para[CR] or List[CR] elements. And you say that the structure of a CR should be a Title, followed by a description. So that's how it should be described in the conversion table. Do you have different tags for the paragraphs of a introduction, CR description? This would allow you to specify these in the conversion table separately (e.g. P:Intro maps to Para[Intro] and P:Body maps to Para[CR]) and then you can include the specific qualified para elements in different contexts as appropriate: P:Intro Para Intro P:Body Para CR Para[CR]+, List[CR]?Description Title[CR], Description CR[Type="Known Issue"] CR Title[SubSection], (Para[Intro]* | List* | CR*)* SubSection .. As an aside, you can simplify the conversion table by omitting the E: identifiers as Frame assumes items in the conversion table are elements unless explicitly qualified otherwise. I also reorganize the conversion table to begin with the simplest elements (e.g., character formats or paragraph formats that become unique elements) and then the next level of wrapping, then the next, On Wednesday, May 23, 2007 01:11 PM, Lin Surasky wrote: | Hi all- | | I've decided to dive into Structured FM and see if I can make | these Release Notes easier to manage. >From Shlomo Perets:- It is possible to add a page action to the opening page of a PDF, and set that action to be a web link. In Acrobat 6 or higher, display the Pages panel (previously called Thumbnails), right click the first page, and then click the Actions tab; add a "Page Open: Open a web link" action. If the pdf file is accessed through a web site, another option altogether is to set up an HTML file whose purpose is to redirect the browser to a different address, and name it as file with a .pdf extension. For example, the http://www.microtype.com/Training.pdf file is a text file with the following content: http://www.microtype.com/training.html";> In this case, redirection is transparent; Acrobat/Reader is not even opened, when the "pdf" file link is clicked in a browser. In the example below ch1 finishes on an even page, and ch2 starts on the right ch1 1-2, 3-4, 5-6 ch2 7-8, 9-10, 1-12 If you decide to have no blank pages ch1 finishes in this example on the right and ch2 starts on the left ch1 1-2, 3-4, 5 ch2 6-7, 7-8, 9-10 What you can't have is a one sided piece of paper. That is, all sheets of paper have two sides. It is a physical impossibility to have a piece of paper with only one side and FrameMaker cannot be allowed to permit such a thing when setting up pagination rules. Hi Elisa, Sounds like there was already a Filename style defined in WW, which tends to confirm what I thought was the case. At least, I don't remember us ever having to create and map a new or special style. I just wish I could remember where I saw the whole process documented... Anyway, glad you got it to work.
RE: Structured FM: Conversion Table Question
Structured FM: Conversion Table Question
Hi all- I've decided to dive into Structured FM and see if I can make these Release Notes easier to manage. Since we don't yet have a need for markup, I'm starting with just the EDD so at least we'll have some of the benefits of a structured environment in place before we get other departments involved (if that ever happens). I have a basic EDD written, and am working on the conversion table so I can move the little content that I already have into the structured environment for the next release. Here's a basic rundown of the document structure: The Release Notes book contains a cover/copyright info file, TOC, and 4-5 chapters. (I'm not even going to worry about the non-chapter files at this point...) Each chapter is a numbered Section. Each Section consists of a section number (SNumber), title (STitle), an introductory paragraph (Para), and one or more SubSections. Each SubSection consists of a Title, a bulleted list of CRs, and the CR descriptions. Each ListItem is a cross-reference to the CR, which is in the same SubSection. Each CR consists of a Title and a Description. The Description for the CR is defined as one or more paragraphs (Para+) and zero or more lists (List?). Most of this works fine, although I haven't tested the cross-references yet. That'll be another email For now, the question is, what's wrong with my conversion table that I can't get the Description element to be wrapped properly around the paragraphs and lists that follow a CR Title? If I specify E:Para as the object(s) to be wrapped in the Description element, the intro paragraph that follows the Section Title (STitle) is wrapped too. Which it shouldn't be. Only paragraphs (and lists) that fall under the CR Title (Title[CR], as opposed to Title[SubSection] or STitle) should be wrapped in the Description element. Here's the relevant snippet from the conversion table (I hope it's readable...): Wrap this object or objects In this element With this qualifier RE:RootElementBook E:SNumber, E:STitle, E:Para, E:List*, E:SubSection* Section P:0 SectionNumber SNumber P:0 ChapterTitleStitle Section E:Title[SubSection], (E:Para* | E:List* | CR*)* SubSection P:B Body Text Para P:1 Heading 1 TitleSubSection P:2 Heading 2 Title CR E:Title[CR], (E:Para*, E:List?) RE: Webworks Std - Html output naming
Thanks for the info, Richard. WWStd does actually include Filename marker support... Thank God. But you're right, WWP Standard is rather limited...putting it mildly... It seems that you all use WWP Pro? Or the native Frame XML output maybe? (I'm not very familiar with XML and stuff so I didn't go much further than creating a structured document in FrameMaker based on one of the templates provided.) Thanks all for your help. RE: [SPAM] - Re: Webworks Std - Html output naming - Found word(s) list error in the Text body
Hi David, It worked fine, thanks. I've used a Filename element which auto-mapped with the Filename WW style. And the output looks fine so far (I've only generated part of the files). I think the WWStd edition is pretty restricted as no alteration to the WW styles seems to be authorized... However I need to look at it more thoroughly, maybe am overlooking something. Many thanks again for your help. Do you all (of most of yous) use WWPro? Webworks Std - Html output naming
Somewhere in WW, you probably have to define the reference to the "Filename" marker (we use a different marker name where I work). OT! European budget airlines
Anyone have any experiences flying on European budget airlines, such as RyanAir, EasyJet, Transavia, etc.? These are the airlines that typically charge 30-50 euro per person compared to hundreds of euro to fly on the larger airlines. If you have, please share with me any pros (other than ridiculously low price) and cons. Please reply to me off-list, since this is definitely OT!!
