RE: PDF error

2009-03-02 Thread Wim Hooghwinkel - idtp
Hello Don,

I had a similar issue - one book refused to print to PDf on one PC while
printing OK on the other.
Although I still don't understand why, the solution was in the set up of the
Adobe PDf printer. In the printer settings, tab 'Adobe PDF Settings' there
is an option named 'Rely on system fonts only; ' Unchecking this box
solved the problem.

FM doen't use document fonts, so there's no logic but somehow this setting
removed the error. I guess it has to do with conflicting font names.

Nancy,

I encountered this problem in a PDF produced using the combination of FM8 +
Acrobat 8 + Save as PDF.
The number is out of range message is displayed upon opening the PDF in
Acrobat/Reader.

Upon inspecting the Initial View settings in Acrobat (under Initial View),
an excessively large number was displayed to the right of the Open to Page
box (1234567890).

It turned out that the Fit Width setting for the At Zoom option in
FrameMaker's PDF Settings dialog box (+Save as PDF) was consistently
responsible for the strange value and the related error. When choosing a
value of Default or Fit Page, the PDF was produced correctly.

This problem was not encountered when printing to a .PS file and distilling.

Creating a PDF form the various png files and importing a page of that

Printing to a .pdf

2009-03-02 Thread Alan Litchfield
Greg,

Excuse me if I am a little confused here.

When you say you are running XP as a guest on a MacBook Pro are you saying you
are running XP under emulation, via BootCamp, or as a RDC client?

And when you say you need to connect to a postscript printer on the 'system',
which 'system' are you referring to? The MacBook or XP?

There are different solutions depending on the answers above, as an example,
if you are using RDC you can use the local (MacBook) printers by:
1. In RDC, when you have made a connection, select RDC > Preferences
2. Click on the Printers button/tab
3. Select the local printer you want to print to, e.g. Adobe PDF.

Yes it does.

I think Art asked the question. Do you have Adobe PDF installed under XP? If
not, I think you need to. It comes with FM and will enable, for example, Press
Quality settings that a desktop laser printer driver may not. I know nothing
about "GCC BLP Elite v52.3" but it appears to me that it provides desktop
laser support only and may not be able to address colour and resolution
requirements for press-ready output.

Angela,

You write that you're working off a server. Perhaps the path to the images
in question is broken or was changed. If the image is in by reference, make
sure that the image's location is accessible from the server, or else change
the location.
If the images are embedded, perhaps they're draining too much memory.

I encountered this problem in a PDF produced using the combination of FM8 +
Acrobat 8 + "Save as PDF".
The "number is out of range" message is displayed upon opening the PDF in
Acrobat/Reader.

Upon inspecting the Initial View settings in Acrobat (under Initial View),

This problem was not encountered when printing to a .PS file and distilling.
