Condolences to the family. My only association with Bruce was via
email over several years but his work saved my butt on a number of

2011-06-15 Thread Mike Wickham
Sad news indeed. My condolences to Bruce's family. He will be missed
here in the FrameMaker community.

I've used several of Bruce's plugins over the years and always
appreciated being able to contact him directly. When I recently asked
about compatibility of his plugins with FM10, he had said that health
problems would probably prevent him from updating them anytime soon. I
didn't realize how bad off he was. Hopefully, someone can take over
development of his plugins.

When I check the Updates page on the Adobe website however, I see that the

Count me in on this. When I checked for updates on my desktop, the update for
p252 (version 9.0.4) was listed as being needed and I updated accordingly;
however, when I check for updates on both of my laptops (which are at version
9.0p255), I get the message that my version is current and no updates are
needed. Sigh. All three machines are Win7, 64bit, etc.

Hiding deletions in with Track Text Edits

2011-06-15 Thread Rick Quatro
Hi Keith,

FrameMaker uses conditions with the Track Text Edits feature; however, while
you can access the properties of these conditions, it doesn't look like you
can change them. For example,

Set oDoc = ActiveDoc;
Get Object Type(CondFmt) Name('FM8_TRACK_CHANGES_DELETED')
  DocObject(oDoc) NewVar(oCondFmt);
Display oCondFmt.Properties;
Set oCondFmt.CondFmtIsShown = 0;

will display the properties of the FM8_TRACK_CHANGES_DELETED but will not
hide it. I haven't tried it with ExtendScript, but I am sure it is the same.

Subject: Hiding deletions in with Track Text Edits

I'm starting to use the Track Text Edits feature in FrameMaker 10.

It's nice to have, but there's one thing that I find annoying. In Word, I
have my revision tracking set to use hidden text for deletions. I've deleted
the text from the document - I really don't want to see it anymore.

Framemaker shows me deleted text as strikethrough with colour of my choice
(red). However, I can't hide it.

I know that FrameMaker uses conditions to show or hide the display of text
flagged with the Track Text Edits feature. Is there any way that I can set
things up so that the text marked with the deleted conditional is hidden?
If there is, I can't see it. Or do I need an add-in or a
FrameScript/ExtendScript?

Hiding deletions in with Track Text Edits

2011-06-15 Thread Scott Prentice
Yes .. programmatic changes to these conditions seem to get overridden
on save, so there's really not much you can do. This is a significant
problem with the track changes feature in that it's not properly
supported by the FM APIs, so you can't leverage or extend them the way
you can other FM features. I'm hoping this oversight gets fixed in a
future update.

Cheers,

...scott

A WMF exported from Visio? Visio's export filters aren't the best. (I've never
tried WMF, but I know the EPS export is flaky.)

Print to PDF (or, if you have Acrobat and its PDFMaker Office add-in, use
that). Then import the PDF into FM. Works like a charm.

Graphics filter error

2011-06-15 Thread Fred Ridder

Yes, Visio's third-party export filter for EPS was notoriously and persistently
broken. And when Microsoft bought Visio they simply dropped it from the
product.

It says here that Visio shouldn;t have any such problem with WMF, since that is
a Microsoft-owned format. But my experience has been that there are a handful
of Visio figures that simply won't work in FrameMaker using WMF as the format.
But in every such case, FrameMaker has been happy with an EMF of the same
figure. And I've also seen the opposite to be true (a few figures won't work
using EMF but are fine as WMF). Why this should be is a mystery I have neither
the time or the energy nor the interest to discover--as long as I have a valid
workaround, that is...

Bruce Foster, creator of many fine FrameMaker plugins, passed away suddenly on
Saturday, June 11, 2011. Although Mr Foster had been diagnosed with multiple
myeloma in September 2010, his death still came earlier than was expected.

Mr Foster's wife Barbara Foster today responded to a recent e-mail I had sent
to
Bruce requesting assistance with his Archive plugin, by letting me know this
news. Mrs Foster gave me permission to post here on FrameUsers, and mentioned
her intention of updating her late husband's web page
(http://home.comcast.net/~bruce.foster) with the news of his death.

Mr Foster's plugins for FrameMaker were Archive, BookInfo, ImpGraph, MifSave,
MifToFM, and RtfSave.

Darn. That script looks like it should work. I wonder what's overriding

Oh well. I guess I'll just have to live with it for now.

Archive book plugin for FrameMaker 10

2011-06-15 Thread Clara Hall
I was wondering if anyone knew of another archive book utility compatible
with FM 10.0.

Bruce Foster's plugin is compatible only up to FM 9.0. I tried to contact
him a couple of days ago and his wife let me know that he passed a couple of
days ago, unfortunately.

thanks

FrameMaker 10 disappearing text?

2011-06-15 Thread Joy Kocar
Hi Framers,

I just upgraded to FrameMaker 10. I open a file in FM10 and my chapter
number does not appear. The space is there for it but I simply do not see
it. I close the file without saving, then open it in FM9 on the same machine
and voila, it is there again. Coincidentally my computer was rebuilt to
Windows 7 (hard drive was failing) but I wouldn't expect it to matter since
I opened both FM versions on the same machine.

What could be causing this? I tried searching the Adobe forums and
discussion lists but have not found a post regarding this.

Thanks for your help!

Re: Sad news

2011-06-15 Thread Mike Wickham
Sad news indeed. My condolences to Bruce's family. He will be missed
here in the FrameMaker community.

I've used several of Bruce's plugins over the years and always
appreciated being able to contact him directly. When I recently asked
about compatibility of his plugins with FM10, he had said that health
problems would probably prevent him from updating them anytime soon. I
didn't realize how bad off he was. Hopefully, someone can take over
development of his plugins.

Fm9 patch numbers

2011-06-15 Thread Yves Barbion
Hi group

Here we go again, the old FrameMaker patch number vs. versison number story:

When I check the Updates page on the Adobe website however, I see that the
latest patch is p252 (version 9.0.4):

RE: Fm9 patch numbers

2011-06-15 Thread Spectrum Writing
Count me in on this. When I checked for updates on my desktop, the update for
p252 (version 9.0.4) was listed as being needed and I updated accordingly;
however, when I check for updates on both of my laptops (which are at version
9.0p255), I get the message that my version is current and no updates are
needed. Sigh. All three machines are Win7, 64bit, etc.

RE: Hiding deletions in with Track Text Edits

2011-06-15 Thread Rick Quatro
Hi Keith,

FrameMaker uses conditions with the Track Text Edits feature; however, while
you can access the properties of these conditions, it doesn't look like you
can change them. For example,

Set oDoc = ActiveDoc;
Get Object Type(CondFmt) Name('FM8_TRACK_CHANGES_DELETED')
  DocObject(oDoc) NewVar(oCondFmt);
Display oCondFmt.Properties;
Set oCondFmt.CondFmtIsShown = 0;

will display the properties of the FM8_TRACK_CHANGES_DELETED but will not

Re: Hiding deletions in with Track Text Edits

2011-06-15 Thread Scott Prentice
Yes .. programmatic changes to these conditions seem to get overridden
on save, so there's really not much you can do. This is a significant
problem with the track changes feature in that it's not properly
supported by the FM APIs, so you can't leverage or extend them the way
you can other FM features. I'm hoping this oversight gets fixed in a
future update.

Cheers,

A WMF exported from Visio? Visio's export filters aren't the best. (I've never

Print to PDF (or, if you have Acrobat and its PDFMaker Office add-in, use

RE: Graphics filter error
