frame fails to start

2012-09-20 Thread Anjaneai Srivastava
Hi Fred,

I think this is because of permission to files(System DLL) used by
FrameMaker to launch, failing which it thoruws the error.

Can you please check the permissions for your user account on the same--
C:/Windows/System32/.
I found an article on a website --
http://www.opssys.com/instantkb/Article.aspx?id=10176

You can take the Help of IT, for getting it checked and applying the steps.

See if that helps.

Thanks,
Anjaneai

Frame 7.1/Acrobat 9: unable to generate PS or save as PDF

2012-09-20 Thread Eric-Oluf Svee
Many thanks to all of you who responded.

One of the things I always liked about using Frame was the community of
users: generous and helpful. After a long absence, it's nice to see that
fact has not changed.

In the end, I fear that I will give up on using Frame for this project,
as much as it pains me to do so. I use Acrobat much more than I use
Frame, and I can't un-install version 9.5 just to print a PDF. I can't
fathom why Frame can't handle "printing" to a newer PS printer, but
that's the situation and I can't change it.

Many thanks for your help--best wishes,

EOS

frame fails to start - the resolution

2012-09-20 Thread Fred Wersan
Thank you to those that responded to my problem. What actually happened
is that Sophos anti-virus sent out a bad update that ended up
quarantining adobeupdater.dll and framemaker wouldn't run without it. We
had to fix sophos and do a system restore and then it worked.

so add this to your lists of things that might break framemaker.

FrameMaker 11 cannot print a .ps file: others on Adobe forums agree

2012-09-20 Thread Jeff Coatsworth
I'm getting the same issue too with a fresh download of TCS4 last week - FM
11.0.0.380. I created a couple of dummy files based on the Harvard outline
factory template, then created a new book to include the test files. Saved
everything, reopened the book and tried to print the book - crashed right away
when selecting the "Print Book" command; then tried to print book with all
files open - crash again; then tried to use "Print Selected Files.." command -
crashed again.

Then I tried a legacy FM test project - upgraded all the files and book to FM
11, and tried printing book to PDF printer - crashed. Save As PDF works for the
book and printing individual .fm files to PDF works fine too. Not a
game-stopper in my workflow, but a bit of an annoyance that will have to get
fixed fairly soon I think. I'll be sending log files and examples into Adobe
tech when I get back into my office next week.

Rob...

"Nobody" is a bit strong. I can print a book to PS from FM11 without trouble.
When I try to print an earlier version FM book to PS, nothing happens unless I
open all of the files in that book (no crash, just nothing).

It does appear that there are a number of print to PS/PDF issues that *some*
people are having. Hopefully, Adobe can replicate these problems and address
them in a future update.

Be sure to send in your files and exact steps to replicate the crash.

Cheers,

FrameMaker 11 cannot print a .ps file: others on Adobe forums agree

2012-09-20 Thread Yves Barbion
Hi Rob

I have just tested print to PS and it works for me when I create a new Fm
11 file and book. It does not work when I open an Fm book which was created
with an earlier version of Frame, but does when I first open and save all
the files in that book.

I'm using Fm11 on Windows XP SP3.

Thanks for clarifying, Dov. During my searches for an answer to the

missing glyph that Windows was lying to me about, I came across sites

such as Fontzone.net and cufonfonts.com that offer free versions of the

font, and such as linotype that offer Myriad Pro but hide the fact that

it's Adobe's in a nearly invisible line of grey type at the bottom of

the page.

I paid Adobe for my version, so I know for sure that's the one I'm using!

It is obvious from the Adobe Forums that nobody can print a from FM11 to PS
This is a new and very expensive product, one would expect some elementary
testing of this key function.

FrameMaker 11 cannot print a .ps file: others on Adobe forums agree

2012-09-20 Thread Scott Prentice
Rob...

"Nobody" is a bit strong. I can print a book to PS from FM11 without
trouble. When I try to print an earlier version FM book to PS, nothing
happens unless I open all of the files in that book (no crash, just
nothing).

It does appear that there are a number of print to PS/PDF issues that
*some* people are having. Hopefully, Adobe can replicate these problems
and address them in a future update.

Be sure to send in your files and exact steps to replicate the crash.

Cheers,

...scott

Help with unicode and question marks

Thanks for clarifying, Dov. During my searches for an answer to the
missing glyph that Windows was lying to me about, I came across sites
such as Fontzone.net and cufonfonts.com that offer free versions of the
font, and such as linotype that offer Myriad Pro but hide the fact that
it's Adobe's in a nearly invisible line of grey type at the bottom of
the page.

I paid Adobe for my version, so I know for sure that's the one I'm using!

FM10 SharePoint Connector speed -- need input

2012-09-20 Thread Jim Owens
For those using FM10's CMS Connector with SharePoint 2010: Is the file
dialog reasonably responsive when you want to add a graphic or other
file to a document? We find it very slow, but we aren't sure whether
the issue is with the CMS Connector or with our SharePoint installation.

Frame vs Word - the decision

2012-09-20 Thread la...@lavadome.net
 Hi all

You may remember a while back I asked for help regarding arguments I
could use to persuade my company to use Framemaker for its docs.

I'm sorry to report I have lost the argument.

"Even though the quality of Word may have minor disadvantages, the cost
and consequence of shifting to Framemaker is not justified. Unless there
is a fantastically good reason I am missing(?) then the choice is
obvious. Please stick to Word henceforth and get no more production done
 in Framemaker."

 Yours, despondently.

Robert,

not with a single keystroke (no button for this function). But You can find the
grlyph with "Composite
font" ON, then switch to "Single font" and select a font from the list to check
whether this font
shows the glyph and then select the next promising font... See the PDF with the
respective screen
shots.
