Re: Fm10 Tables and Change Bars
This cell padding idea worked ok to accomplish what I need. But I had to set top at 3pt and bottom at 2pt, anything less caused the bars to rejoin as one. I tried to compensate for the added vertical growth by adjusting line spacing and font size, but couldn't exactly match the rows per page that I had before. BTW, for the other replies to this issue: I'm in unstructured frame, and my initial workaround was to draw individual lines beside the rows. It was tedious but worked ok for that delivery. Glad to figure out an easier solution for the next go around. Chris On Mon, Jan 27, 2014 at 8:43 AM, Fred Ridder docu...@hotmail.com wrote: Mark the paragraph inside a cell in the row rather than the row itself and the change bars should remain separate. Or at least that's how my copy of FM9 behaves. For my purposes, I actually would prefer that it *didn't* work this way. Although now that I think about it, it may depend on how the table format is set up as far as cell padding is concerned. If all the vertical space around cell contents is provided by the paragraph's space before and space after rather than cell padding, FrameMaker may treat consecutive rows as a continuous block of paragraphs. My tables all use cell padding, and the change bars are only as tall as the paragraph(s) that are marked inside the changed cells. -Fred -- Date: Fri, 24 Jan 2014 13:45:33 -0500 Subject: Fm10 Tables and Change Bars From: cacogg...@gmail.com To: framers@lists.frameusers.com I have 6-column tables taking up dozens of pages, with each row containing only 1line of text. Due to the customer's request, I need to have the change bars appear as individual change bars beside each row, even along consecutive rows, rather than one solid change bar down multiple rows. Does anyone know how to force Fm10 to do this? I've used tables before where this was possible, but do not know which settings to adjust to make my current table's change bars behave similarly. I tried putting a paragraph return at the end of the text in a cell, then changing it to be a run-on punctuation so that the row doesn't grow. Then selected the changed text in another cell to apply the change bar, but it doesn't work. Once I mark 2 consecutive rows that way, the two change bars join and form only one when the display is refreshed, even with the hidden paragraph return. Re: Now OT, I suppose. RE: Adobe pricing policies (was: FrameMaker 12 released)
I don't buy that at all. DITA has major costs that are not offset unless you have substantial opportunities for reuse and publish in multiple languages. There's no rational reason to spend money on low-value upgrades. Do a cost-benefit analysis and know what you're paying for. At one old job we were using FM6. We looked at 7.0, 7.1, and 7.2, nobody thought they were worth the cost. FrameMaker's major competition is Flare, which does a pretty good job of importing FM files. Re: Font issue in Framemaker 10, Windows 7, 64-bit
Hi Tammy, to check your problem I had to buy one font style, I choose the Breuer Text regular font. Now, after checking the font info, it is clearly a mistake in the font definition. Although the style name is Regular, the font weight is set to medium. If this is a problem, you should contact your font dealer or the maker of the font. Of course the setting could be modified with a font program, but this would be against license agreements, I guess. best regards - Tino H. Haida, Berlin (Germany) Tammy Van Boening: All, I am having a doozy of a time with fonts in Framemaker and I am hoping that if I provide a detailed description of the problem, someone can point me in the right direction. This SHOULD be Fonts 101, but I give. Here is the summary: · I have purchased four fonts directly from the font maker. The fonts are Breuer Text Regular, Breuer Text Regular Italic, Breuer Text Bold, and Breuer Text Bold Italic. · There are other fonts in this family with Medium in their names, such as Breuer Text Regular Medium, Breuer Text Medium Italic, etc. · There are 8 font styles in all in this family, and they are style-linked · I have purchased and installed only the four fonts that I listed in my first bullet. I have not ever installed any of the Medium fonts or any of the other fonts, so style-linking should not be an issue. · After installing these four fonts, I see this in my C:WindowsFonts directory - Medium, Medium Italic, Bold, and Bold Italic. Note that the Regular fonts are actually being renamed automatically to Medium upon installation. I did not do this manually. · When I open the top level Breuer Text font folder, I see four individual detailed font folders - one named Medium, one named Medium Italic, one named Bold and one named Bold Italic. · If I open either of the Medium folders, the file name in the title bar still reads as BreuerText-Regular. otf or BreuerTextItalic-Regular. · When I create a paragraph tag in FM named BodyItalic, I select Breuer Text as the Font Family, and then for the angle, I select Italic, which should just switch the Regular font with the Regular Italic font, but boom. . . the weight is also set to Bold immediately. For the weight characteristic, there is a Regular option, so I try to select that and click Update All, but the angle is immediately reset to Bold and I cannot change it. Anytime I try to set the angle for any paragraph tag that uses the Breuer text to Italic, FM automatically sets the weight to Bold as well. · I opened a Word doc., typed in some text in Breuer text, and then manually applied the Italic character. In Word, the text is only italicized. It is NOT bolded. I have to manually apply the Bold in Word. · If I use just Regular Breuer text in FM, and don't screw with the angle, the weight remains Regular. It does not get bolded. I have tried rebooting, clearing my font cache, rebooting again and I still this issue in Framemaker with this danged Breuer text. I tried uninstalling the Breuer text, clearing my font cache, reinstalling and still the same issue. The Regular text gets loaded and installed with Medium in the name in the Fonts directory and in FM., anytime I try to italicize a paragraph tag, it gets bolded as well. This is really screwing up my docs., obviously, as I don't want all italicized text to be bolded. Any and all advice is sincerely appreciated. I was supposd to do something with the paragraph designer, and neither the tutorial nor the FM 12 User Guide was very clear on how to get to it. I searched on my own, and found the menu option Format - Paragraph - Designer, which looked like what I should select. So I selected it and -- nothing happened. At least, nothing appeared that I could recognize as the Paragraph Designer. The same thing happened with the character designer. So either I'm making some kind of error or something's wrong with my copy of FM. I hope it's my error and you can tell me how to correct it. ___ You are currently subscribed to framers as ljsims...@gmail.com. Send list messages to framers@lists.frameusers.com. Re: Why is the Edit Frame button grayed out
On 2014-Jan-27 1:04 PM, David Downing wrote: Okay, I have something else that isn't working as advertised. I just went through a lesson that involved the use of the Anchor frame option. I had trouble getting it to display on the screen as well, but I figured that out this time. I tried to change the position of the frame to Run into paragraph, but the Edit Frame button was greyed out so I could;t implement the change. Why would the button be grayed out? One possibility would be that the graphic I thought was selected was not in fact selected, but I'm pretty sure it was. What other reasons might there be for this? Thanks. Hi David, As Fred points out, the frame and the graphic within it are two different things. To select the graphic, click anywhere on it; to select the frame, click just outside it, very close to the border (The pointer will change from the I-bar to an arrow when it's close enough). And make sure you always work with borders and text symbols visible -- life is easier. RE: search with RegExp RE: Now OT, I suppose. RE: Adobe pricing policies
I will demonstrate various techniques for marker management (that apply to all versions of FM, as well some FM12 examples which use regular expressions) in my Form Assistant webinar next week (Wednesday, Feb. 5, 10am PST), https://www3.gotomeeting.com/register/885499830 Shlomo Perets http://microtype.com From: Craig Ede craig...@hotmail.com Date: Wed, Jan 29, 2014 at 5:38 PM Subject: search with RegExp RE: Now OT, I suppose. RE: Adobe pricing policies To: Maxwell Hoffmann mhoff...@adobe.com, framers framers@lists.frameusers.com I'm especially excited about the search with regular expressions. If that helps me easily modify the markers I'm inserting using Shlomo Peret's Form Assist, that will be a huge TimeSaver for me (pun intended). Max, maybe you can schedule a webinar by Shlomo highlighting this use of that feature. Craig ___ You are currently subscribed to framers as arch...@mail-archive.com.
