RE: FM 12 - Table row delete issue

2014-11-19 Thread Craig Ede
You might be better off to just cut and paste into Notepad and then into the FM
doc as pure text then converting to the table format you want in FM.

The MS products bring along a lot of cruft with tables.

RE: Problem with playing video clips in FM 12 document viewed in Adobe Reader 11

2014-11-19 Thread tom . beiswenger
I converted from FM7 to FM12, which is a huge leap; however, there is an
excellent course on Lynda.com. The course is on FM10 (Essential Training)
that covers the new user interface, as well as most of the things that you
would need to know. As I understand, there aren't a lot of differences
between FM10 and 12.

Hey Jeff,

Are there also FM12 forums? Would you happen to have any links to pass
along?

I?m a FM user from back in the days of FM5 or earlier, and the company I?m
at for a new contract gig just purchased FM12. Plus the FM files I?m
updating/revising were done in FM9. Encountering a lot of quirks these
past two weeks.

Would appreciate any resources you could pass along.

Regards,

Steve

I?d be inclined to print to PDF as this exposes the PDF creation settings
? maybe you?ve got something turned on/not turned on that?s impacting the
playback of your video. I don?t have any videos in my FM content, so I
can?t really help you on that point. Have you had a look in the Acrobat
forums?

OK. I presume, then, that the "save to PDF" actually triggers FM to open
Acrobat and print the document using the Acrobat Distiller that is part of
Acrobat, not FM. If this is correct, then things should have been rendered
correctly. The computer we have all of this on also does not have a
separate version of Adobe Reader.

However, the video clips still do not play. In fact, the icons
representing the videos that are referenced in the FM document aren't even
active. I've also tried copying the videos into the FM document when I
import them. The same thing happens: the icons representing the videos are
flat graphics, mouse click does nothing.

Now, I'm confused. On a separate, clean computer, we loaded (in this
order), Acrobat 9 Pro Extended (full version) and FM12 (and unchecked
Adobe PDF creation). Should we have loaded FM12 first, then Acrobat? Or
did we do something else wrong?

FM 12 - Table row delete issue

2014-11-19 Thread Michael Norton
Has anyone else run into this?

1. Opened a document

2. Pasted in a table from an Outlook email (a simple 2 column/12 row
table)

3. Began reformatting the table

- Applied style

- Applied tags

- Added a header row

- Drag/drop the heading text into the new header row

- Highlighted old header row (now empty)

o If I right-click and choose Cut, the Cut Table Cells dialog appears. I
choose Remove Cells from Table and FM deletes that row. All is well.

o If I press Delete, FrameMaker hangs.

I'm guessing that the Cut Table Cells dialog is displayed, but not brought into
focus. Since I cannot get to the Cut Table Cells dialog to specify whether I
want to clear the contents of the cells or delete the cells, FM is effectively
hung and I have to kill it via Task Manager.

I'm using FrameMaker version 12.0.3.424 on a Windows 7 machine.

Jeff,

Not having a lot of luck. We tried installing FM12 and Acrobat Pro on a
separate computer. IT told me that there was no option to not install
Distiller. The only options they saw were FM12 and ExtendScript ToolKit CC. Any
ideas?

Only if you had the full version of Acrobat Pro and then installed the headless
version overtop of it. In that situation, you would have to uninstall Acrobat &
reinstall the full Pro version to restore your functionality. I don't know if
this situation applies to you or not.

Jeff, sorry to be dense on this. Why would I run the installer again if I
already have FM12 installed? Are you saying that I should uninstall the
software, then custom re-install it?

Not if you've got the full Acrobat installed.

Jeff, I think we did uncheck "Adobe PDF creation"; however, when I went into
the newly loaded FM12, I still saw "Save as PDF" and "Save as review PDF" as
active. Wouldn't those options be disabled (grayed out) if PDF creation was not
loaded?

When running the installer, use the Custom options to control what gets loaded
