Re: [Framers] Captions

2019-12-13 Thread Ant Davey
   Hi Doug,

My more academically inclined colleagues tell me (in Britain at least)
table titles go above and figure titles go below. However, I've always
put both above. For the reason that you state, about cross references
going to the top of the page. The same happens in PDFs if you have
bookmarked the titles. So, seeing the table or figure - or at least
part of it - with the title has always seemed preferable.

   Thank you Peter,

Making more master pages may have to be the way to go in the short
term. I can make editorial changes sometimes, but usually don't have

   other content providers.

I already use InDesign for some of our outputs. Frame is generally
reserved for 'reports', which run into tens of pages (> 50). Imported
from Word, as the only text tool that our SMEs have access to (and a
small understanding of how to use it effectively).

Yes Rick, I really DO need to explore ExtendScript!

If you're interested, InDesign has some features that FM lacks,

Re: [Framers] Machinations of .Portrait and .Landscape

2017-02-18 Thread Ant Davey
   Craig,

Thank you for taking the time to respond in your 'zoned-out' state. I
   didn't explain myself clearly...

What I'm trying to achieve is that the .Landscape paragraph (which I'd
insert before the content to appear on a landscape page) doesn't act
like any other paragraph. It appears to stick to the top of the page
on which is is inserted. Regardless of what content changes are made
   before it.

And that's my issue. I work in an environment where changes are almost
inevitable. 'Can we move this section...' or 'I think it would be
good if we inserted a new image/table here.' 'Let's just add these two
paragraphs in here.' and so on. Oh the joys of working with SMEs, who
   don't look outside their world.

   Many thanks,
   Ant

Forget the idea that you have about applying it immediately after
your paragraph. It doesn't work that way. It works beginning with
the paragraph you defined as assigned to the Master page in question
(which is, after all, more sensible).

Regarding your second question: Define another master page with the
slightly longer page to solve that problem. Having an apply master
pages command that respects page overrides would essentially not
result in the application of the master pages, but acceptance of
 what you already had.

 Good luck

Re: [Framers] Master Page Issue

2016-11-26 Thread Ant Davey
Only jumping in ahead of John because I'm in a different time zone...

Open your Release Notes base document.

In Menu bar, select Format > Page Layout > New Master page.

In the dialog box, give your new master page a name. FM will tell you
   it has been created.

In Menu bar, select View > Master Pages

Find the view of your new master page.

To delete any unwanted text frames, place cursor on edge of bounding
box so that a type cursor appears.

Press CTRL and left click. Frame will show as active with black
squares on corners and middle of edges. Press Delete key.

To change size, shape, and position of other text frame, make it
active, then with cursor inside the frame, left click and select Object
   properties.

In the dialog box, select Dimensions. Make changes in the new dialog
   box.

To add graphics at the bottom of the page:

In Menu bar, select File > Import > File

Browse for (correctly sized) logo file, click enter, select resolution
radio button and click Set button.

With the image active, right click and select Object properties to set
its offset position at the bottom of the page.

   Repeat for second logo.

   Save.

[I usually add a graphics frame to my master pages, and place the
imported image file inside that. But that's because I sometimes need
to put different images in the same place for different documents.]

I do hope this is what you needed...

   Best regards,

   Ant

If I understand correctly, this is not a job for a master page,
unless you create a special Master Page Last.
You want the image to appear on the last page, which in this case is
 a left page.
But if you use master page = Left, then it will also appear on p2.
So you need either a custom Master Page for Last with the image, or
else don't use a master page for this image. Simply add it to the
last page when everything else is in order.

99% of the time my Release Notes are only 2 pages, max. This is not
 one of those times.
Page 1 is easy to set up properly, but it's the last page I'm having
problems with as I have a particular graphic that needs to go at the
 bottom of the page.
Currently, when I go to Master Page view, there are 3 pages:
 * First (3 of 3)
 * Right (2 of 3)
 * Left (1 of 3)
 [cid:image002.jpg@01D24738.F4DE0F60]
Ordinarily, I just use the first 2 pages so the graphic is on page
Left (1 of 3) then make sure I delete the last (empty) page before
 creating the PDF.
I have moved the graphic onto Right (2 of 3) but that doesn't work
as it shows up on page 3 not page 4 of the finished document.
How do I get the graphic to show up on the last page (I want an even
 number of pages).

 1. import to your template
 2. click in first instance of Normal
 3. apply Body
 4. click in second instance of Normal
 5. open Paragraph Designer
 6. manually change the name "Normal" in the designer by typing in
 "Body"
 7. click Update All
 8. confirm that you want to rename all Normal to Body
 9. click in the 'original' and first 'Body' tag (from step 3)
 10. click Update All, confirm if needed
Not pretty but it lets you get to the Body format you want.

Is there a way to get Frame to change one paragraph format into

2016-08-12 Thread Ant Davey
   Dear All,

I'm using a set template to import Word into Frame and on occasion,
Frame seems to be importing the Body paragraph format from Word as
Normal, rather than transferring it into the Body format in Frame.

Is there a way to get Frame to change one paragraph format into
another, rather than just the obvious options of replacing it with a
   character format?

   Many thanks,

   Ant
