Frame to eBook
All our books begin in Framemaker (7, Mac). After some trial and error, here is the workflow I found most effective for converting the books to ePub (and Mobi). Our books are heavily illustrated, so this is a large part of the work. 1. Produce the pdf in color. 2. Save pdf as Word. 3. Import to the Pages eBook template that Apple provides. Or better, cut and paste from Word. Import is flakey. Don't do anything in Word! 4. Clean up Front Matter. 5. Delete headers and footers, if any. (Most will be eliminated by the import.) Don't delete TOC. Pages will produce it, but you should include it at front with links. 6. In Pages, the top-level paragraph style selected in the Document inspector’s TOC tab is used to create chapters in your publication. 7. Check for inline images. Move images out of the Word frames. Then move images so they don't break paragraphs. Move footnotes right after their paragraphs. 8. Insert cover at top. (Twice) 9. Format text: Search for assigned paragraph tags and change. You probably don't have to worry about page breaks before because the new P tags will fix those. 10. Adjust images. Note: you can get larger images by saving Word doc as html. Of course you can also just insert originals, or copy from the pdf. Yes, you have a lot of work to do in Pages before producing a decent ePub file, but the end result is good. Until FM outputs ePub this is the way to go. Hop this helps. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= James Monaco Harbor Electronic Publishing 84 Mt Misery Dr Sag Harbor NY 11963 631 725 9513 http://HEPDigital.com ___ You are currently subscribed to framers as arch...@mail-archive.com. FM under Sheepshaver
Does anyone have any hints about running Framemaker 7 Mac under the OS9 emulator Sheepshaver? It keeps crashing, while all other OS9 aps run fine. I'm on digest so would appreciate direct response. Thanks.

MAC Font Problem
Framers, A font I've just added isn't recognized by Framemaker (7.0 Mac under Classic) or any other Classic ap. It is greyed out in the FM font list. It worked fine on another similar machine. It is validated, and I believe I've blessed the OS9 system folder. I think I've seen this problem before but forget how I fixed it. The font is .OTF (opentype). I'm on digest so please copy direct. Thanks! Help with Distiller
Framers, I am trying to distill a .ps file created with FM7 (Mac) using Distiller 6.0.2. I am getting the following error: %%[ Error: undefined; OffendingCommand: .notdef ]%% Stack: -dict- /Private -dict- -dict- %%[ Flushing: rest of job (to end-of-file) will be ignored ]%% %%[ Warning: PostScript error. No PDF file produced. ] %% I've had no trouble distilling this file before. Any ideas? Frames within Frames Question
Hello Framers, We have books with different text frames for left and right master pages (in order to leave more space in the gutter than on the outside). When you insert a graphics frame for an illustration it references the page, not the text frame. The result is that if the pagination shifts, as it often does as you insert new graphics or futz with the text, the graphics frames are often off-center since they are getting their coordinates from the page, not the text frame, which has moved. Does anyone have a workaround for this? (It seems to contradict the very principle from which Framemaker gets its name!) While I'm at it, it is annoying and time-consuming to have to set run- around properties separately every time a graphics frame is inserted. Shouldn't there be a Preference for Always Run-around Bounding Box? (Mac FM 7.0, I'm on digest) Thanks! -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= James Monaco212 777 5463 UNET 2 Corporation 212 777 5534 (fax) 80 East 11th Street 800 269 6422 (sales) New York NY 10003 http://UNET.net http://HEPDigital.com ___ You are currently subscribed to Framers as [EMAIL PROTECTED] Send list messages to [EMAIL PROTECTED] To unsubscribe send a blank email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] or visit http://lists.frameusers.com/mailman/options/framers/archive%40mail-archive.com Send administrative questions to [EMAIL PROTECTED] Visit http://www.frameusers.com/ for more resources and info.

Does anyone have experience exporting from Filemaker to FrameMaker? I know there's a Filemaker module that drives InDesign. Anything similar for Frame? (MAC FM 7). I'm on digest. Framemaker on Mac
Much more interesting to Mac Framemaker users than Apple's Boot Camp are Parallels' XP emulator (now shipping beta) and -- especially -- the Open Source project for something called Darwine. Based on Wine, a Linux project, Darwine will allow a user to run a Windows application under OS X. Not only don't you not boot Windows, you don't even buy it. I have no idea how stable this will be, or whether Wine works well on Linux, and of course there will be glitches, but the concept is remarkable. Think of the ramifications: my guess is that many Windows users love their aps not their OS. And if Darwine beats Vista to market.
