Can Word identify graphic file names?

2009-06-30 Thread Richard Doll
Carol,

In reference to comments made by Nancy Allison and others

Easy!!! . . . ??? . . .
0. convert the ".doc" file to ".htm" to ".txt".
1. the < image001 . . . o.title="Yerkes_Inn_Salem_NY"/> can be
*programatically extracted* to an ASCII "listfile.txt" via a MSVisualBasic
prgm.
2. the CD's Images (tif & eps) can be loaded into a single "manual" work
folder.
3. an "Adobe Photoshop CS3" script developed by Rick Quatro that is very
successful, can convert all the ".tif"s to ".eps" files.
4. enquire of Rick, if he can script, for Frame "image calls" to all be
changed to only call the cvt'd ".eps" image NAME.eps.

and . . . if any/all/some images are 4/color . . . you want ".EPS"!!!

Some/many 4/C .EPS ills. display slowly on page

2010-07-24 Thread Richard Doll
sys: MS WinXP-Pro SerPk2
app.FrameMaker v7.2
box:Dell Precision PWS490, 1.6 GHz, 3.* GB RAM,
C:\Software, Apps. & Ills., etc. - 80GB
F:\WorkFiles-Frame\PShop\Excel\etc. - 80GB
I:\Backup - 1TB & Carbonite (both - specified folders) . . . OK,
so I'm paranoid.

Issue: Some (but, not all) EPS 4/c illustrations "open" for and are
displayed on-screen much slower than others.
All are in an SGML structured environment of a file of 8pp-240pp
having 1 to 6 ills./pg.
Some ills. do fly/snap through the display process, other stop
2-8 sec./ill (display it - then do the next ill.- etc.).
This issue causes some pages to take almost a minute to display
and release control for me to do any adj'ts.

I have been unable, upon viewing diff. .eps ills. to deduce the issue
causing this slowness.

I have noticed two different happenings in the Frame file open :
one . . . Initial open of the sgml file (needing conversion) - All
pages
"snap-to" upon completion/display. - like the ills. are "print-ready" -
two . . . Subsequent open of the .fm file - Open /displaying (if
"mal"defined eps is/are present) SLOWLY and are now being made
"print-ready".

Appreciate your solutions, comments or hints!

"Color Definition / Print Setting... is inconsistent" error

2010-11-27 Thread Richard Doll
All,

I see this "error" every-time when I try to "print" multisection catalogs
as a "book".
So, I print the 12-to-15 sections seperately (with NO error messages).

The cause, in my projects, I have assumed to be quite obvious.
And, the below listed work flow explains my assunption.

1. All my projects begin as an SGML provided data stream.
2. Each section/chapter has a unique-colored full-length bleed-tab ID'd in
 >Color Definitions as "X".
3. Color "X" is used as 100% and other %ages for type and tinted-boxes
containing type.
4. This "setup" allows me to NOT NEED to have 15x15=225 color-related
elements/formats in addition to the other 90 or so that handle the "black"
text and tables just to compile a catalog.

When I print as a book . . . "X" being defined differently for each
section/chapter - - - waa-laa > error.

So, its one ata time . . . no big deal here.

Beginning yesterday in the afternoon when an object was selected for

about 6pt increments.

The objects involves are: Frame created "rules and shapes", Table cell
boundaries, and Graphic (.tif or .eps) boundaries.

I know not what I have done to cause this affliction.

I have searched for all (sys & app) *.ini files and find "fmtoolbr.ini -
9/6/07 @ 5:13" to be the only .ini file to be "Modified" since 2/5/07.

So, . . . I opened the fmtoolbr.ini in Frame as text, But, I know "nada"
about what I see there or even if I'm looking in the correct place.

As my customers fail to accept "approximately correct" this seems to be a
serious problem.

Many thanks for sharing your knowledge of a solution.

FrameMaker 7.2p158, Acrobat 7.1.0, GhostScript 8.60, Publi PDF 1.50.0292

SGML 2-column Catalog with Foredge aligned running heads (2/pg) and foredge
bleed Section numbers in one col. table-12rows deep.

1. Running Head A - 15pt, aligned to the foredge "SECTION NAME" - text from
Element A attribute - on Master Pg
2. Running Head B - 28pt, aligned to the foreedge "Product Name" - text from
Element B attribute - on Master Pg
3. Top of Page - The Element after/adjacent to the Head B Element is called

cause a "Top of Next Page".
4. First text line - contains 2 Elements (Run-in Paragraph) for indexing
only.- 6pt on 7, white
5. Second text line - contains 3 Elements (Rin-in-Paragraphs) for indexing
only - 6pt on2 - white
6. Product Title - Element is 1st visable "black type" in a 1-col. table
with a 35% of color tint background

ISSUE: Upon the1st page and every following page (R or L) when the next RH-B
Element occures, the main/general text flow, has (only in col. 1), the 1st
line of text printing 3pts higher, which is the first line of visable text

At 400%; a 6pt straight-line rule drawn (with its + cursor exactly on the
top edge of . . .) from a "left" offending table across the col. margin to
the adjacent/right col. Product Title table has the "thick" rule lay exactly

I have looked at the 4 MasterPage format definitions at font sizes, line

NO format definitions from 1 through 6 - which is 9 formats have [negative

PDF>FrameMaker>PDF Color Issue

2008-03-04 Thread Richard Doll
Why is the color within ".pdf" files containing ".eps" objects totally
ravaged by the Windows RGB GDI upon "Import>File".
Upon "Print" for output, black and grayscale images yield some % of yellow
and Pantone SPOT is no longer accurately definable by any pre-press software
"PDF to printing-plate system".

Adobe does own the copyrights to all the applications involved with this
issue.
Can you divine a wholly complete solution within FrameMaker other than "Tech
Note" ID 324220
http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=324220 which in a
name is a "kluge"

What could induce the creators of the software that provides us livelihood
and compensation, to have this seemingly small issue resolved?
So . . . it isn't a small issue . . . Adobe isn't a small corporation
either.
Adobe has denied access to CMYK GDI OS hardware/applications while denying
RGB GDI OS hardware/applications to correctly interpret color for printing.

My customers are depending on color to help market their products.
What path do you suggest that I take to enable them in reaching their goals.

Adobe is depending on their customers to sell their products.
Come-on Adobe guys and gals . . . suck it up and make FrameMaker colorful
and happy!

MstrPg-Use question using RefPg-Table in Structured FrameMaker - 7.2

2011-08-22 Thread Richard Doll
Framers,

Dell - 490 WorkStation ,
Mem-4G (3.2 useable),
Dual Monitors,
Dual 80G hard Drives w/one 1T Western Digital (for backup)
DSL for data communications (sure beats USPS, FedEx 'n UPS)
Win OpSys
XP Pro - Serv Pk 3 Fully patched
FrameMaker
7.2 - Fully Patched

My tables have a Table "columns" attribute that (with a Reference-Page
table) will control a table-specified MasterPage based on column quantity.

My tables have column-quantities from 3-6 and a 2nd group from 10-14.
The 3-6 col. group needs to be on 2-col pages and the 10-14 group on a 1-col
(full) page
I do have 4-different Masters . . . named . . . 2cRT, 2cLft, 1cRt and 1cLft
which do quite well when applied manually, a one or a few pages at a time.
The Section pg count varies from 30pp - 250pp with 0-2 images on full-width
pages and 1-6 images on 2-col pages.
The Section usually begins in full width (mode) and will alternate 1-col to
2-col three to twelve times per Section.

You can see . . . they can get quite busy and . . . what I want is . . .
for the Table-Columns attribute to control pagination MasterPgs upon the
input of the SGML-data file.

Two questions . . .
1. Is this RefPg "Element-Attribute" Table>MasterPg a real, working,
solution?
2. Where can I find written instruct's that offers a "great"
instructional view of How it works and How to make it work?
3. In the "columns" attribute value is the column-count(TEXTnumber) . .
. In the RefPg Table - in the attribute value column . . . Can I enter <8
and cause the 2-col. Master to be used and . . . enter >8 to cause the
full/p-1-col Master to be used???
4. or do I need to spec each col. quantity separately???

Thanks for reading this and double Thanks for answering!

Framers,

The Find/Change function ID'd in the Subject:(above) . . .
DOES change the attribute value in the "structure window"
BUT
the actual "anchored frame" - as viewed on the page - DOES NOT move.

Your help in learnin' this old coot . . . on using to cause
the graphic's move-to-the-right-margin . . . Will be Greatly appreciated!

FYI . . .
selecting >Special>AnchoredFrame>Alignment>Right (one image at a time)
DOES cause the AnchoredFrame to move, as desired.
CAVEAT:--- The structure window remains >acenter???

Other FIND details are. . .
>Attribute Name: is "align" is chosen

Frame-10 (AdoTecCom-3.5) Structured Applicaton help

2012-08-02 Thread Richard Doll
Structured Framers,

I'm an "old" 76er who has been creating 4.5-5K pp/year with versions 4 thru
7.2 for umpteen years and now have a BIG prob.
Previous to the current dilemma, about a month ago I did order the
AdobeTechCommSuite 3.5 and have it installed on a Win-64bit Sys.
7.2 does not want to fly any more (I think some required frame-sys file has
been deleted).

These catalog pages begin with provided ".sgm" text files (1 file per
section / ea. sec.varying 48 to 260 pages).
The pages have 95% of which have "framed images", and table
columns which vary 3 to 16 columns.
Their is a lot of "hand makeup decisions" to determine the need of being a
1-col. page or a 2-col. page and the need for hand-placement of "continued
from/to" lines, pdf-ads and filler pages and when completed . . . several
indexes (a 2-col. and a 5-col being 12 or 64pp) needing to be sorted and
concatenated.

--

The IMMEDIATE issue is . . . getting Frame-10 to convert (via the Apps) the
data from SGML-//HaL and O'Reilly to Frame.

Seeking "paid" help . . . to fix/heal the required "applications" - (4 of
them) to function in Frame-10.

If interested . . . please, please, plea, pl, respond.

Adobe's response - thus far - has been to email a pdf of the current
Structure-manual . . . which I have yet to receive.

Adding a version number to PDF file property

2012-10-17 Thread Richard Doll
Jon,

IF you really want/need a version "ident" as part of a file name . . . (and I
do understand its need) . . . ??
Then you probably have need to be able to follow it back to the source.
I accomplish this by adding an "alphanairy" number after a hyphen behind and as
part-of the "logical" file name.

?alphanairy? . . . my own system to enable l-a-r-g-e numbers with fewer
character positions.

to whit . . . as the 1st column a = 1 and z = 26, one can count/define a
version for 26 different iterations in any single thing with only one letter.
   using the 2nd column aa= 27 and ab = 28 as above
such that . . 676 versions can be accomplished with 2 "alphas" when going to
"zz ( = ing 26 squared).

a quirky solution . . . but I know of no "auto-click" to enable
"sys-versioning" accountability'

{This is my first posting from this email address and I'm not sure it went
through the first time. As a result, I'm reposting}

  Everyone,

Is there a way to incorporate a version number into the properties of a PDF
file so that it appears in Window explorer properties? To see what I mean, do
this:

  1. In Windows Explorer, right-click any PDF file and select Properties.
  2. Select the Details tab.

The details for the PDF include the file name, type, folder path, size, etc.
but not a file version. However, if you view the details of an application
file, its file version appears.

How can I add the file version properties for a PDF file?

Over the last few months when working on this book, I have noticed that paging

dual monitor serup ? - Frame-10

2013-01-11 Thread Richard Doll
all,

have been doing structured catalog pages since ver. 4 when the 3.5-in.
floppy was in a "hard"-envelope and have accomplished this with a variety of
Dell WorkStations, all using dual monitors.

the dual monitors allow full-size facing pages on screen-1 and
char.-para.-table.-designer with struct,-access, tool-bar, and two other
(mod-pods) located on screen-2. This set-up allows ALL the functionality to
be in view all-the-time and is quick-access.

??? can/HOW can this be set-up on a new Dell-WS win7/64-bit sys for
Frame-10???

the dual-screen "card" does allow for an application window to be
drug-across both screens, if necessary.

anyway . . . who might you recommend calling to instruct me in set-up of
this environment, or where is this kind of set-up defined. ???

thanks very much for your response!!!

Is there a solution other than Rick's Table Cleaner???

Hardware: Dell 340 Workstation

Table style change:Catalog with "new" table style . . .!!! Tables now
Left Indensted 18pts from column boundary!!!
Problem:Table positioned with correct indent; BUT, now extend 18pts past
the right column boundary???

My actions:
saved new table style with new name.into new template
saved new table style in new named edd
imported new edd into new template
added new "application" into the SGML conversion file
manually checked table style in new template, its exactly correct

Current project is about 1000pp having about 7500 tables and 4000 images . .

I do not mind using Rick's Table Cleaner . . . just concerned if/or what

Dual Monitor(s) ??s

2007-01-13 Thread Richard Doll
As many of you have touted the advantages of dual monitors . . . My ??s
follow:

Replacing 4-yr. old (now too slow) Dell 360 Precision WrkStation with:
NewSys: WinXP Pro - Dell 490 PrecisionWorkStation - 2G Mem - 80Gig Hard
Drv - Dual Monitor IntFace/Contrlr
Apps: FMkr 7.2 - PShop - Illustrtr - AcrobtPro 5.05 w/Dstlr - MSWrd -
VisualBasic - ColourChameleon

Try'd 24" Wide Screen on this sys; but, aspect of wide-screen only stretches
display to fill monitor area. Such that 8.5x11-in page at 100% displays at
10.25x11 . . . like its quite chubby. Type and graphics also display
pixelized/distorted. Can change aspect to normal, but then, margins are
completely dead and type still pixcelized.
So, returning 2407 monitor for two regular (aspect) screens.

Question(s) is . . . How to direct certain apps to display on which screen
and (FMkr) how to have (para/table/structure/etc). designer "drop-downs" to
appear on screen2 next to the screen1 that would display the main/page
window.
And . . . should I care how the mouse knows that the right boundary of
screen #1 is really the left edge of screen #2 and will flow across? Or,
will I also need multi-mices? 8^)

Just signed the petition and indicated the following as the reason for
signing:

"It is really a matter of letting users choose, rather than aggressively
force this or that option them.

Clearly, many Adobe users are still using older versions because many newer
versions/upgrades were mediocre, half-baked, not too promising and/or too
expensive. Instead of making an effort to produce inspiring/irresistible
upgrades, they want to force all to constantly pay for the same software."

[nothing original. I'm sure that these points and many other valid points
were already made in the different threads in so many forums]

opted for "purchase" which does function fine . . . just each launch has

The increased threat is the adoption of subscription payments where
previously different mechanisms were used to pay for this stuff. Now,
much is online and therefore vulnerable.

It is the point you make that is the issue (and the answer to your own
question). What happens when your license expires? When a person takes
the default the option to have credit card details saved and reused at
renewal time, then that opens the doors for the criminal element to "have
a go". That is an increased threat.

Why should we trust a corporation for whom we have no direct
relationship, especially those who work within? A corporation that wants
no relationship with us except to provide a product and dictates a
payment method that provides the threat of harm? Yet, there is an
expectation of trust when credit card and other details are provided.
Adobe plays a patriarchal role in selectively ignoring pleas from its
customers (dependants) and in return those dependants respond with
increased offerings of trust and forgiveness when any kind of weakness on
the part of the patriarch is displayed. Dependants are caused to question
their own values and belief in the system when they ought to be
questioning the system's values and making demands that services are
provided so that trust is warranted.

Some/many 4/C .EPS ills. display slowly on page

2010-07-24 Thread Richard Doll

sys: MS WinXP-Pro SerPk2
app.FrameMaker v7.2
box:Dell Precision PWS490, 1.6 GHz, 3.* GB RAM,
   C:\Software, Apps. & Ills., etc. - 80GB
   F:\WorkFiles-Frame\PShop\Excel\etc. - 80GB
   I:\Backup - 1TB & Carbonite (both - specified folders) . . . OK,
so I'm paranoid.

Issue: Some (but, not all) EPS 4/c illustrations "open" for and are
displayed on-screen much slower than others.
All are in an SGML structured environment of a file of 8pp-240pp
having 1 to 6 ills./pg.
Some ills. do fly/snap through the display process, other stop
2-8 sec./ill (display it - then do the next ill.- etc.).
This issue causes some pages to take almost a minute to display
and release control for me to do any adj'ts.

I have been unable, upon viewing diff. .eps ills. to deduce the issue
causing this slowness.

I have noticed two different happenings in the Frame file open :
one . . . Initial open of the sgml file (needing conversion) - All
pages

"snap-to" upon completion/display. - like the ills. are "print-ready" -
two . . . Subsequent open of the .fm file - Open /displaying (if
"mal"defined eps is/are present) SLOWLY and are now being made
"print-ready".

Appreciate your solutions, comments or hints!

Re: "Color Definition / Print Setting... is inconsistent" error

I've never seen an error message with that text. Are you sure you're

To get any meaningful help, you'll have to provide some context. For

structured or unstructured, and what you were doing when the error message
appeared.

Structured > Find/Change>Element>Graphic>AttributeName>align . . . from acenter to aright???

2011-07-15 Thread Richard Doll

   >Attribute Value: of "acenter" finds NOTHING . . . thus I have left it
blank and (apparently) do find and change the Graphic/AnchoredFrame (see

Re: Adding a version number to PDF file property

2012-10-17 Thread Richard Doll
Jon,

IF you really want/need a version "ident" as part of a file name . . . (and I
do understand its need) . . . ??
Then you probably have need to be able to follow it back to the source.
I accomplish this by adding an "alphanairy" number after a hyphen behind and as
part-of the "logical" file name.

¿alphanairy? . . . my own system to enable l-a-r-g-e numbers with fewer
character positions.

to whit . . . as the 1st column a = 1 and z = 26, one can count/define a
version for 26 different iterations in any single thing with only one letter.
   using the 2nd column aa= 27 and ab = 28 as above
such that . . 676 versions can be accomplished with 2 "alphas" when going to
"zz ( = ing 26 squared).

a quirky solution . . . but I know of no "auto-click" to enable
"sys-versioning" accountability'

How can I add the file version properties for a PDF file?

So, . . . I opened the fmtoolbr.ini in Frame as text, But, I know "nada"
about what I see there or even if I'm looking in the correct place.

As my customers fail to accept "approximately correct" this seems to be a
serious problem.

Many thanks for sharing your knowledge of a solution.

Running Structured in Frame since '94, so by now I ought to know what I'm

This DTD Code with the corresponding EDD code does yield . . .

the correct pair of "ears"/page headings on every page, every time.

How do I also get this page heading text into a TOC. LOF or IDX with the

The page headings look . . .

24Pt Cap and Lower Casep1 | p2 Cap and

Come-on Adobe guys and gals . . . suck it up and make FrameMaker colorful
and happy!

I am a Windows XP user of MSWord,Excel,VisBasic, etc,
AdobeFrameMaker,InDesign,PShop,Illust AcroPro,etc,
My thanks to Grafikhuset Publi PDF and Ghostscript. for 6 years of enableing
the solution of all the color issues
except for this one of IMPORTING PDF INTO FrameMaker.

Widow Word on Widow Line . . .

2008-06-06 Thread Richard Doll
The System: Dell Precision 490 WorkStation, WinXP SP2, 2G mem, Dual 20-in
Monitors, FM-7.2-w/upgrades, 2 80G SATA drives.

Project: 600pp SGML Catalog w/2-indicies.

Issue: After 10+ years of production, customer wishes to no longer need to
mark proofs for *widowed widows*.

Widows are currently satisfactorily controlled with the Format> Paragraph>
Pagination >Widow/Orphan Lines quantity.

The "Widowed Widow" is the last 2 lines of a paragraph in which the
widowed/last "line" contains only, a single word.

How can I control this occurance in FM.

Using VisualBasic, I can/have searched the SGML data file for the end of an
Element "http://lists.frameusers.com/mailman/options/framers/archive%40mail-archive.com

3 pts at top of col. 1 ... gone

2008-07-01 Thread Richard Doll
Windows XP - SP 2
Dell 490 WorkStation, 2-meg mem, 2 80-meg disks, dual monitors
FrameMaker 7.2p158, Acrobat 7.1.0, GhostScript 8.60, Publi PDF 1.50.0292

SGML 2-column Catalog with Foredge aligned running heads (2/pg) and foredge
bleed Section numbers in one col. table-12rows deep.

1. Running Head A - 15pt, aligned to the foredge "SECTION NAME" - text from
Element A attribute - on Master Pg
2. Running Head B - 28pt, aligned to the foreedge "Product Name" - text from
Element B attribute - on Master Pg
3. Top of Page - The Element after/adjacent to the Head B Element is called
, in 2pt (can't be made less) type on 0 line space, only function is to
cause a "Top of Next Page".

(6.) after the Running head B Element (2.).

At 400%; a 6pt straight-line rule drawn (with its + cursor exactly on the
top edge of . . .) from a "left" offending table across the col. margin to
the adjacent/right col. Product Title table has the "thick" rule lay exactly
on the tables "top" edge. Thus I say the dif. betw. the cols. is 3pts.

I have looked at the 4 MasterPage format definitions at font sizes, line
spacing and space around this text ... both A's and B's are identical.
NO format definitions from 1 through 6 - which is 9 formats have [negative
(above)] spacing and all spacing is the same.

SECTIONSECTION<--- A

|---| |---| |---| |---| <--- Top

|_
LIKE THIS!!! WITH THE TEXT BLEEDING

above the Master Page boundary ??? ?? ?
What else might I look for to correct the problem?

dear gilli,

I think this list is not the list on which you want to air Callifornican

This site is dedicated to those want-to-be excellent FrameMaker

Not to worry though, as there is a Pro Life-b(u)oy rising that eliminates

Bookmarks in structured Frame-7.2

2009-03-09 Thread Richard Doll
Hardware:

2-80Meg hard drives
Software:
WinXP Pro SP-2
FrameMaker 7.2 all patches
Acrobat 7.0 Pro and Distiller 7.0 may actually be 7.01 - 7.1

at issue:

Structured environment in FrameMaker;

trying to >Save As "pdf", defining Bookmarks as/from ¶ styles
(appears as though . . .) Frame goes through the pages finding and making
necessary changes while the (SandClock) ticks . . .
Then the (SClock) reduces in size maybe 10% and distiller "boots" into the
"active prgm" tray at bottom of screen area . . .
And regurgitates the following:

Acrobat Distiller 7.0

I have successfully >Printed/created a good PDF of the 48pp section with a
necessarily different tack (without the Bookmarking of >Save as PDF)
This IS my first attempt at Bookmarking . . . ever . . .
Possible caveat . . . the text data is an "attribute" of the 2 structure
elements that have their 2 "Style"s being ID'd to be bookmarked.

I'm goin' acro-batty - - -

Re: Can Word identify graphic file names?

Structured Table (Indents) from SGML structtired/tagged data

2006-07-17 Thread Richard Doll
Is there a solution other than Rick's Table Cleaner???

Hardware: Dell 340 Workstation
OpSys:Win2K
AppWare: Frame 7.0, Acrobat 5.+, Illus 10, PShop 7.0, MSWord, MSVisualBasic
6.+

Table style change:Catalog with "new" table style . . .!!! Tables now
Left Indensted 18pts from column boundary!!!
Problem:Table positioned with correct indent; BUT, now extend 18pts past
the right column boundary???

My actions:
saved new table style with new name.into new template
saved new table style in new named edd
imported new edd into new template
added new "application" into the SGML conversion file
manually checked table style in new template, its exactly correct

Current project is about 1000pp having about 7500 tables and 4000 images . .
. HELP!!!

I do not mind using Rick's Table Cleaner . . . just concerned if/or what
I've incorrectly done or not done.

Font Management

2007-02-13 Thread Richard Doll

1st . . .many thanks to those who responded to my "dual-monitor" ???s
is was an eays install!
but, the grand-kids are still amazed at . . . how the cursor goes through a
vertical desk part onto the adjacent screen. . . .and so am I.

Font Management . . .
I'm still using Abobe Type Manager Deluxe with no apparent problems.
Distiller knows where all the fonts live.
I use this "old" application to "activate" families . . .
Is this viable or not.
