RE: Converting FrameMaker Marker tags with Acrobat

2009-01-08 Thread d . mossfritch
Thanks Diane. Our Munich, Germany office sent me an email with the same
correction. They found the problem Wednesday (their time) and worked on a
solution Thursday (again, their time). Our support text inserts are now correct.

 Hi Denise,

They FM hypertext dialog box gives the wrong information for setting up a
 hypertext link for email.
It should be: message URL mailto:n...@company.com

 Art,

 The syntax works fine as:

 message url brachyh...@varian.com

with Acrobat converting the complete address as an active email link.

When the syntax includes support- as follows:

 Message url support-ameri...@varian.com

Acrobat converts the link to ameri...@varian.com, dropping the support-
 portion of the address.

Re: problem install framemaker 8 trial version

2007-09-07 Thread d . mossfritch
I ran into the same problem (on two different computers) with the GoLive 9
trial. I have also noted the same problem recently with a couple other Adobe
applications. I suspect (yet cannot prove) the problem happens with Adobe's new
serial number dialog box where you select to add a serial number or trial.

Best,

 Denise L. Moss-Fritch

I'm attempting to download and install the free trial version of
Framemaker 8 from the Adobe website. It downloads fine but during the
install process I am asked for a serial number. I don't have one since
this is a trial version. The Adobe support person I contacted first
suggested re-downloading the sw (didn't help, the same thing happened),
then said that I cannot run the trial of Frame 8 without first removing
Frame 7 from my system. This isn't an option; we do our documentation
work in Frame 7 here. I just wanted to evaluate Frame 8's conditional
text features to see if we want to upgrade. Does this ring true - do I
really need to remove Frame 7 to evaluate Frame 8?

Re: Framemaker classes?

Morning Dave,

If you mean the Chicago area of the Great Lakes, you might take a look at
http://www.ledet.com/training/software/adobe/framemaker/ . Never used the
organization, but with our prior FrameMaker trainer gone I was looking the
other day and found this group.

 Hi all,

I'll be leaving my current position as a lone writer in a couple weeks and
want to make the transition as smooth as possible for the next person in
this position. Does anyone know of any decent FrameMaker classes or other
training that might be available to a company in the Great Lakes region?

 Thanks,
 dave.

Re: Looking for books on Frame template design

Good Day Greg:

Are you looking for books dealing with unstructured template design? If so,
Scriptorium has a workbook at
http://store.scriptorium.com/items/workbooks/fm102-unstructured-framemaker-7-template-design-workbook-fm102wb-all-detail.htm
which may be what you seek.

Re: OT - Who should be responsible for proofing?

2006-12-15 Thread d . mossfritch
Good Day Art and Natalie,

If you are looking at only spelling and grammar, perhaps. However, the problems
encountered at our site deal more with content (complete procedures, no link
from the help file to an application's Help buttons, lack of option and data
column descriptions, and more) and the structure of documents.

A couple of years ago our expert (of spelling and grammer) reviewed a
contractor's publication and offered a couple of comments. What the expert had
missed was the description of the software application was backwards of the
application's actual purpose and operation.

Afraid I must say that proofing a document depends upon the purpose of that
proofing.

Best,

 Denise L. Moss-Fritch

-- Original message --

In practical terms, it should be the person who gets zinged if there's
a mistake and/or the person in the organization with the best spelling
 and grammar skills.

If you're asking a process question, I'd say no, it should never be
the writer because he/she has looked at the copy too much to look at
 it with fresh eyes.

But back in practical terms, if the writer is the best speller /
grammarian, he/she is likely to get stuck with the job.

Re: good flowchart software to use with Frame

2006-09-14 Thread d . mossfritch
Good Morning Beth,

I too use SmartDraw, particularly for flowcharts that include images. I had a
problem with the shartness of images until I tried saving the SmartDraw graphic
as a .png file and using that in FrameMaker. The resulting graphic, whether
print or Acrobat, is great.

Best,

 Denise

So I made a Hypertext link in my Frame file using Specify Named

have to do to get it to work?
