[semi-OT] Anyone having problems with this morning's Acrobat and Reader patches?

2009-03-12 Thread Art Campbell
I'm working in a mixed Acrobat 8/9 environment, and in the wake of
applying the 9.1 upgrade to my system, things have gotten a little
strange.

(Because some co-workers are running 8, I think they received the
complementary 8 security patch to fix the Java execution security
hole, but I don't _know_ that.)

In any case, after the required system reboot, the first time I ran
9.1 Acrobat, some tools -- like the Comment set -- didn't exist. I
shut it down and restarted Acrobat, and they showed up.

At about the same time, my co-worker was working in 8 on a shared
review on a remote server. Her existing comments didn't show up. The
review server is also acting flakey.

Any thoughts? Anyone having similar issues?

Thanks,
Art

RE: [semi-OT] Anyone having problems with this morning's Acrobat and Reader patches?

2009-03-12 Thread Pinkham, Jim
Art, I am two weeks into the trial of Illy CS 4 and suddenly began
encountering the dreaded Not enough memory error right after accepting
the Reader upgrade this morning. It was a bit mortifying, to say the
least, to not be able to open any of my graphics files with Illustrator!
I immediately uninstalled Reader 9.1, rebooted, and reinstalled the
Illustrator CS 4 trial. Then off to lunch, and just back. I'm hoping for
the best, and about to learn whether that is a vain hope or not.

I'm running Frame 7p1 for the moment (though will be testing TCS2 very
soon). Also using Acrobat Pro 6 (another reason why I'm ready to test
TCS). System is XP SP 2, and I have 2 GB of RAM.

2009-03-12 Thread Pinkham, Jim
It WAS a vain hope. For the moment, I can still open my AI and EPS files
in Illy 9, but not in CS 4 (Illy 14). The not enough memory to open
illustration error persists -- although at the moment I have Outlook

percent of my CPU resources.

Any ideas on what to do next?

I would try rebooting the computer to clear out memory and recover any
that leaked.

When it comes up again, open the CS4 version only and see if that

Is it possible that the new releases use more memory, and are running
into a memory hardware problem? Can you run a diagnostic on the RAM
chips, or at least swap their positions and reseat them?

[semi-OT] Anyone having problems with this morning's Acrobat and Reader patches?

2009-03-12 Thread Art Campbell
I would try rebooting the computer to clear out memory and recover any
that leaked.

When it comes up again, open the CS4 version only and see if that
makes a difference.

[semi-OT] Anyone having problems with this morning's Acrobat and Reader patches?

2009-03-12 Thread Peter Gold
Is it possible that the new releases use more memory, and are running
into a memory hardware problem? Can you run a diagnostic on the RAM
chips, or at least swap their positions and reseat them?

An update

I just tried to create a shared review with the patched Acrobat 9.1,
and I can't save the modified file anywhere -- not the local drive or
any of several networked drives.
