Yeah!
I thought that they might not have value anymore. Indeed, once I punted
FrameMaker from my company (due to the absurd upgrade pricing), I let all our
licenses for our writers "expire".
I stopped my upgrades at FM 12, and only use it (rarely) to make quick edits to
old docs, unless it is better to bring them into my new flow (that uses LaTeX)
for major changes ... takes about a day to convert. Easy for my documentation,
since the format is relatively straightforward, but not necessarily best for
other users.
Side-bar: FM 12 still works on Parallels on Windows 11 on my Intel MAC - when
that fails, I will permanently abandon FM and that will be a sad day ... I have
used FM off and on since 1988 (started on a B/W Sun Microsystem 3/50
workstation).
FWIW, I am learning Illustrator at the moment - one of our designers put my
books together in that app. He is no longer with the company, so my new edition
will need me to edit in Illustrator.
My company got me a Creative Cloud license ... I am using that on my current M3
Mac, although my personal tools are from Xara - with a nod to Scrivener for
some non-company writing that I am slowly working on.
Anyway, I suspect I will not have any takers for these old manuals. Oh, well
... that is what recycle bins are for, I guess!
