Re: [Framers] Searching for an en dash in a big FM document

2024-05-31 Thread Tammy Van Boening
Thank you to everyone who responded. I appreciate the help and I will try using
the hex code. Yes, I did try copying and pasting the dash to the find field
first before posting and no joy.藍
But one of these responses will definitely work!

2024-05-31 Thread Craig W. Johnson
Tammy,

I try to work in Unicode whenever I’m straying outside of the realm of 8-bit
characters as each app has its own weird shortcuts.

In Frame’s find box the syntax \u works, with each # representing the hex
digit in Unicode.

So, for endashes, use \u2013. Unicode values can be easily looked up at
Unicode.org.

Re: [Framers] Searching for an en dash in a big FM document

2024-05-31 Thread David Artman
You should be able to enter the character in the Find field using the Alt code,
then choose a replacement, and use Find Next + Replace (carefully!) to verify
desired results.

If the Find dialog doesn't let you enter the Alt code, enter it in Notepad or
something, copy it, and paste the copied en dash into FM Find field.

Are you not able to do either of these?

I have a legacy book (oh joy) in which I want to do a search and replace for
all the en dashes. I know that the ALT code for this special character is
Alt+0150. Is there a way to search all the files in the FM book using this code
and if so, what do I select for the Find option - not a Paragraph Tag, for
example, but what else? If I can't search by the ALT code, how else can I
search short of very intense/mind-numbing/drink-inducing page by page hunt and
kill?

TIA,
