Rely on system fonts only

2010-05-12 Thread Spectrum Writing
Thanks all. And yes, it was confirmed by Adobe that every time Adobe does an
automagic update, your settings are wiped out and you must reset. Sigh.

Still, the BIGGER issue is that I use ONLY Arial and Times New Roman Fonts
in all my documents - system fonts! I do not use embedded fonts in my
documents. It's ONLY on Win 7/64 bit that this setting becomes an issue.
Slap these files onto a Win XP SP3/32 bit system and the setting does not
become an issue.

As I have said before, this is a non-reproducible situation from system to
system - Two very savvy FM sources from the list have the same issue for all
documents on their Win7/64 bit system, another source has said that it's an
issue for only some of his documents, and yet another never has the issue.

I just saw the same issue be potshot at a client site well - some users had
the issue, some didn't, etc. It would be nice if Adobe would acknowledge
this issue and try to resolve it.

Thanks again all! This list is the best.

Wow, I had no idea I had to change it in TWO places. It's bad enough
that it seems to reset every time Adobe does an automatic update.
Here are the instructions for doing this in Windows 7:

1. Click Start-->Devices and Printers (can also be accessed from the
Control Panel).
2. Right-click the Adobe PDF icon.
3. Select Printing Preferences.
4. Select the Adobe PDF Settings tab.
5. Clear the box preceding "Rely on system fonts only; do not use
document fonts. Click OK.

6. Right-click the Adobe PDF icon again.
7. Select Printer Properties.
8. Select the Advanced tab.
9. Click the Printing Defaults... button at the bottom.
10. Select the Adobe PDF Settings tab.
11. Clear the box preceding "Rely on system fonts only; do not use
document fonts. Click OK twice.

12. Repeat when Adobe next does an automatic update.

Rely on system fonts only

2010-05-11 Thread Jenny Greenleaf
Rick Quatro told me how to set it at the system level using the Printers and
Faxes control panel, but I missed the Advanced>Printing Defaults one.

I have now gone in and found the Advanced and General settings and gotten both
of them (they were different, sure enough).

Frame even remembers.

Thank you!

Is there any way to keep that option turned off? I have to remember to
uncheck it every time I print to my PDF printer.

There are two places to set it in the Adobe PDF printer properties. Are you
setting both?

General> Printing Preferences> Adobe PDF Settings

Advanced> Printing Defaults> Adobe PDF Settings

Rely on system fonts only

2010-05-11 Thread Jenny Greenleaf
Is there any way to keep that option turned off? I have to remember to uncheck
it every time I print to my PDF printer. Sometimes it will hold it for the same
document for a couple hours. Unless you use a different printer in the meantime.

It's rather annoying and I am wondering if some of the smart people on this
list have figured out how to make it stay off.

Hoping...
