Since super8 is now part of the regular "professional" catalog, there are no expiration dates on these products. There is a manufacturer's code on the box which tells Kodak from which batch the roll comes from. Re: [Frameworks] bolex/camera repair training
Hi Judith, I have been repairing cameras professionally since 1980. I graduated from the long defunct National Camera camera repair course. The first few years, I did mostly still cameras. Since 1989, movie cameras exclusively, 16mm and some super8. My speciality is Bolex 16mm equipment. It takes many years to become really proficient in this field. It also takes tools, parts, special instruments and test equipment. If you want to start on your own, you can download some of the original course materials from National Camera at this site: https://onedrive.live.com/?cid=d4b54f69523e88b5&id=D4B54F69523E88B5%21112 Study them and find yourself a couple of old cameras to practice on and dig in. I wouldn't be too dismayed at the disappearance of Tri-X. Both ADOX and ORWO produce black and white reversal that is at least equal in quality to Tri-X. The new ADOX CHS-II in Super8 has received rave reviews since it's introduction and most users seem to find it superior to Tri-X. [Frameworks] Double super8 film
Hello Frameworkers, For your information, I have very recently made inquiries with Kodak Canada and Kodak USA about the issue of a special order of DS8. The stock chosen for discussion was Vision3 50D color negative. While no specific quantities were discussed, a starting price of $25,000 USD has been mentioned for such an order. Based on current Kodak pricing structure, I estimate that this is the conservative equivalent of approximately 4 feet of DS8 stock or 400 100 ft. rolls of DS8 on daylight spool. Can all the world’s users of DS8 consume this amount of stock in the next two to three years? The final price you may ask? Estimate from $70 to $80 for 100 ft. spools of DS8. Since there are no DS8 color stocks on the market at this time except Kahl Germany’s offerings to compare prices with, we can compare with the price of four 50 foot cartridges of 50D. Kodak’s catalog price is currently $23.60. You can do the math. Also, further efforts can be made to convince Kodak to agree to a lower minimum quantity for an order or perhaps to split the order into various negative stocks. One last advantage about DS8 stock is that, if need be, at any time you can have the film slit and produce regular super8 stock for loading in standard refillable cartridges. If Kodak would deliver DS8 stock, it will be of perfect (e.g. Kodak level) quality for sure. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who would like to use the DS8 negative stocks and perhaps give me an idea of their potential usage. Thank you! Re: [Frameworks] Tobin intervelometer power supply?
That big heavy battery belt probably contains D-sized NiCd cells rated at 4Ah. Nowaday, you can get subC NiMH cells rated at 4.2Ah. A pack made up of 10 of these cells measures only 11.3 cm x 9.1 cm x 2.3 cm and weighs 1.55 lb. I have used these myself: http://www.all-battery.com/12v4200mahflatnimhbatterypackforairsoftgunanddcpower-1.aspx They will deliver the same power as your old battery belt. You just have to get yourself an adapter made to 4-pin XLR. Cheers, Jean-Louis ___ FrameWorks mailing list FrameWorks@jonasmekasfilms.com https://mailman-mail5.webfaction.com/listinfo/frameworks
