FYI, if you get the following error from pkg during updating:

pkg: Failed to execute lua script: [string "shell_path =

This is due to a known bug in pkg:

I haven't used it in a long time but as I recall sound support was
always a bit wonky, at least for me.

A word of caution: the current port is hopelessly outdated. If someone
is interested in porting the latest version it is available from:

Unfortunately the most recent update of devel/py-aiorpcX to 0.18.0
broke finance/electrum. It's even listed in the requirements:

$ grep aiorpcx \
work-py36/Electrum-3.3.5/contrib/requirements/requirements.txt
aiorpcx>=0.17,<0.18

A diff between aiorpcx 0.17.0 and 0.18.0 shows that there was quite a
churn that can't be easily fixed.

For now I've downgraded devel/py-aiorpcX to 0.17.0,1 and bumped the
electrum port.

Updating the ports tree and updating the two ports manually will solve
the issue until the package builders have caught up.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

For me it's also x11/nvidia-driver and multimedia/cuse4bsd-kmod.

I used to lock (pkg lock ...) the packages during the transition time.
Now I am lucky enough to have my own build server where I build

I run into the same problem trying to update the nagstamon port (both
poudriere and poudriere-devel).

In my case the port is heavily reliant on python36 flavoured
dependencies.

Here is my build log:
http://people.freebsd.org/~ehaupt/misc/7DB621161F-672C5B551B-0F0958D74F-E60E451E4E/nagstamon-3.0.2.log

In my case the following files are modified during the build stage:

extra: usr/local/lib/python3.6/site-packages/dbus/mainloop/__pycache__
extra: usr/local/lib/python3.6/site-packages/dbus/__pycache__

I'm not sure why that happens.

I've just fired up 4 vanilla VMs:

10.3-RELEASE i386
10.3-RELEASE amd64
11.0-RELEASE i386
11.0-RELEASE amd64

I've installed x11/xorg, x11-wm/xfce4 from package and installed
xfce4-generic-slider in a new, fresh xfce4 profile and an empty $HOME.

xfce4-generic-slider would run as expected without crashing.

When I've started the 4 VM's with my live $HOME, the slider would crash
all the time.

There must be a setting from previous xfce4 versions in my homedir
that's causing these crashes. I haven't figured out what exactly but
since working with a clean, fresh setup doesn't cause these crashes I
am going to revert the deprecation.

I feel the same way. I've been using the plugin for a long time but
recently found that it stopped working.

Without being able to access the preferences dialog on amd64, FreeBSD
11.0 it has become very useless.

I agree that the ICONV options is indeed very useful. I wouldn't mind
turning it on by default rather than creating an extra slave port.
After all it is a standard configure option and not a third party patch.

It has been broken for me for quite some time. I've tried to update to

- trying to connect fails, tcpdump showed no connection attempts

Hi Kai

Can you identify the particular file that causes the problem? If so,
could you please show me the output of

$ stat file

What filesystem is this file on?

Indeed there seems to be some sort of confusion on how to use -z vs.
-zz. However there -zz mentioned in the manpage of 3.1.1:

   -z, --compress
With this option, rsync compresses the file data as it is sent
to the destination machine, which reduces the amount of data
being transmitted -- something that is useful over a slow con-
  nection.

Note that this option typically achieves better compression
ratios than can be achieved by using a compressing remote shell
or a compressing transport because it takes advantage of the
implicit information in the matching data blocks that are not
explicitly sent over the connection. This matching-data com-
pression comes at a cost of CPU, though, and can be disabled by
repeating the -z option, but only if both sides are at least
  version 3.1.1.

Note that if your version of rsync was compiled with an external
zlib (instead of the zlib that comes packaged with rsync) then
it will not support the old-style compression, only the
new-style (repeated-option) compression. In the future this
new-style compression will likely become the default.

The client rsync requests new-style compression on the server
via the --new-compress option, so if you see that option
rejected it means that the server is not new enough to support
-zz. Rsync also accepts the --old-compress option for a future
time when new-style compression becomes the default.

See the --skip-compress option for the default list of file suf-
fixes that will not be compressed.

This is currently being tracked under:
https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=10677

I'm considering an UPDATED entry after some other issues with the port have
been resolved.

As a workaround I would suggest to rebuild the port without the
ZLIB_BASE option checked.

As this option is broken I am thinking about either removing this
option entirely or change the default value to 'off' with a warning
that this option is currently broken.

So do you have fdescfs mounted on /dev/fd on the machine where the
test fails ? It works for me on head, and if unmounted, I get the
same failure message as yours. I very much doubt that it has anything
to do with a system version.

Question I have is why is bash deciding to use /dev/fd/ and require
fdescfs? On older releases bash uses named pipes for this instead.

The aclocal.m4 contains the test which verifies the presence and usability
of /dev/fd/n for n>=3 on the _build_ host. The result of the test
is used on the installation host afterward.

Such kinds of bugs are endemic in our ports, but apparently upstreams
are guilty too.

Is there anything I can do to patch the bash port? I am more than happy
to implement a fix and contact upstream about the problem.

The sole purpose of this stub port is to have an official package.
Especially useful on low CPU powered embedded systems w/ a limited
amount of disk space.

[patch] attempt to update net/citrix_ica to 13.0.0, missing symbols

2013-11-22 Thread Emanuel Haupt
Here is my attempt to update net/citrix_ica to 13.0.0. Unfortunately I
ended up with missing symbols:

http://people.freebsd.org/~ehaupt/patches/citrix_ica.patch

After the installation I used www/nspluginwrapper:

$ cd ~/.mozilla/plugins/
$ nspluginwrapper -v -i /usr/local/ICAClient/npica.so
Install plugin /usr/local/ICAClient/npica.so
  into /home/ehaupt/.mozilla/plugins/npwrapper.npica.so
$ firefox "about:plugins"

I can see the plugin:

http://i.imgur.com/K9gT1t6.png

When I'm trying to initiate a citrix session I get:

/usr/local/lib/nspluginwrapper/i386/linux/npviewer.bin: symbol lookup error:
/usr/local/ICAClient/npica.so: undefined symbol: mkstemps
*** NSPlugin Wrapper *** ERROR: NPP_NewStream() wait for reply: Connection
closed

Trying to initiate the session from the console:

$ /usr/local/ICAClient/wfica /tmp/launch.ica
/usr/local/ICAClient/wfica: symbol lookup error:
/usr/local/ICAClient/lib/UIDialogLib.so: undefined symbol:
gtk_widget_set_can_default

Seems like it's missing linux gnome-utils. Well, this is where I left off.
If time permits I might pursue this further but meanwhile if anyone else
likes to give it a shoot feel free.

trying to fix audio/milkytracker, does not compile since zlib 1.2.4 import

2013-03-17 Thread Emanuel Haupt
Milkytracker currently fails to build on FreeBSD 9.1 and I am not sure
if it is related to the import of zlib 1.2.4 with 900010.

Build log:
http://people.freebsd.org/~ehaupt/misc/milkytracker/milkytracker-0.90.85_2.log

Upstream bug report:
http://forums.modarchive.org/index.php?topic=3389.0

Any help fixing the build would be appreciated.

shells/bash-devel

2013-01-14 Thread Emanuel Haupt
I've added shells/bash-devel in order to have a more up to date version
of shells/bash. This port is originally a clone of shells/bash with the
following changes:

- Updated to 4.2.42
- Converted to OPTIONSng

There are still a few things I like to change, such as:

- Remove possibly unused WITH_ / WITHOUT_ knobs that were never part of
  OPTIONS
- Remove possible cruft such as FAQ, WITH_INCLUDED_FAQ,
- Introduce new OPTIONS
- Remove possibly unneeded OPTIONS
- Modernize style, reformat/indent

I am open for suggestions or even better patches/PRs!

Thanks,
Emanuel

I was in the same situation with dns/ldns requiring python bindings
which are not built by default. I solved the problem by creating a stub

Makefile header conversion script

2012-10-29 Thread Emanuel Haupt
I have just added Tools/scripts/convert-makefile-header.pl, a script
that can help you convert old style Makefile headers to the new format
which was announced a while ago:

http://lists.freebsd.org/pipermail/freebsd-ports/2012-September/078319.html

Here is a list of maintainers that agreed to let people remove "created
by" lines:

http://wiki.freebsd.org/Ports/MaintainerTrimming

Please do not submit PR's changing only the header. Update headers only
with regular updates.

I have to admit that 'distilator' definitely needs more public
relations work and way more explanatory text.

I wouldn't mind altering, amending the text but I could use some help.

I'm also open for suggestions to create different kind of reports that
might be more helpful.

I'm using this driver w/o any problems on 8.2-RELEASE amd64. Movies

I just recreated distinfo by running 'make makesum' for the sake of

I was very reluctant to do so but now that the license framework has
been around for some time I thought I give it a go.

As Sahil pointed out it's entirely up to you. Better have no license
specified if you're not sure about it. You can not always trust the
included COPYING file. There are many cases where a port comes with
several different licenses. I found that cross checking with different
linux distros could often bring some clarification.

ports-mgmt/distilator can do that too. It's basically code extracted
from the version that creates the distilator report [1] and put into a
library.

I've just fixed the port for the current version a few minutes ago. So
there is no hurry. I'd rather have the port use the system internal
version so I'm in favor or Bill's removal.

According to [1] getline wasn't introduced before OSREVISION prior to
800067. I've just commited a patch that pulls in devel/libgetline on
those versions.

Not quite. i7z is primarily for dumping i7, i3, i5 CPU features.

Inverting OPTIONS setting in an exp run every now and then could screen
*simple* mistakes. For instance conditionally defined patchfiles,
distfiles, extra patches that don't apply anymore and so on. There is
no way this can ensure that those OPTIONS would even make the port
build but that would not be the intention.

I didn't assume that. It would be an easy way to spot simple mistakes
such as incomplete package lists, unfetchable optional distfiles,
things like that.

[request for testers] update devel/ccache to 3.0.1

2010-07-26 Thread Emanuel Haupt
I am intending to update devel/ccache from 2.4 to 3.0.1 based on
patches previously submitted with the following PR's:

http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=ports/148228
http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=ports/146527

A full list of new features and improvements is available:

http://ccache.samba.org/releasenotes.html#_ccache_3_0_1

Since this port is used by a large audience, I'd like to ask for
feedback prior to the update. Feedback from people using ccache
integrated in tinderbox (ports-mgmt/tinderbox) is also gratefully
appreciated.

You can fetch the update from:

http://people.freebsd.org/~ehaupt/patches/ccache.patch

I've tested the update building various c/cpp heavy ports twice
watching the current statistics summary closely:

# while sleep 1; do clear; ccache -s; done

I saw the cache hit count go up as expected. The produced binary after
the second build was identical to the first one.

Before you try the updated version, you should clear the ccache
directory from the previous version:

# ccache --clear

This will also be stated in ports/UPDATING.

That was my first thought but then I thought I first present the idea.
A lot more is possible such as adding other search engines. Develop
some optional "quality feedback" mechanism for maintainers having ports
that required a distfile to be looked up.

Also, the script pulls in a lot of p5- dependencies. Makeing the actual
script a port and have ports/Mk/* provide the necessary hooks could be
a solution.

Unfortunately, recently much more often. Especially with non default
OPTIONS that pull in additional patches/distfiles.

MASTER_SITE defined by google search result

2010-07-22 Thread Emanuel Haupt
Usually when I find that a port can't fetch the according distfile I
simply google for the distfile with the following search string (e.g.
for rsync):

intitle:"index of" rsync-3.0.7.tar.gz

This approach almost always delivers plenty of results. I then manually
download one of the results into my DISTDIR and restart the normal
build process which then automatically takes care of the integrity
(checksum, size) of the distfile(s).

I thought, why not automate this and I came up with a simple perl
script (requires www/p5-Google-Search):

http://people.freebsd.org/~ehaupt/distfile-search/distfile-search

Adding the following make magic to /etc/make.conf

# distfile search
.if defined(DISTFILE_SEARCH_BACKUP)
pre-fetch-script:
MASTER_SITE_BACKUP+=`/root/bin/distfile-search ${ALLFILES}`
.elif defined(DISTFILE_SEARCH_OVERRIDE)
pre-fetch-script:
MASTER_SITE_OVERRIDE=   `/root/bin/distfile-search ${ALLFILES}`
.endif

will let you choose whether you want to overwrite the pre defined
MASTER_SITES:

r...@foo: /usr/ports/x11/xorg/ $ make -DDISTFILE_SEARCH_OVERRIDE fetch

or add the search result as backup MASTER_SITES:

r...@foo: /usr/ports/x11/xorg/ $ make -DDISTFILE_SEARCH_BACKUP fetch

In the later example you even might want to define
DISTFILE_SEARCH_BACKUP globally.

As a proof of concept I was able to download all distfiles for x11/xorg
with this method (make -DDISTFILE_SEARCH_OVERRIDE fetch-recursive).

Please let me know what you think.

audio/squeezeboxserver still broken

2010-07-03 Thread Emanuel Haupt
Hi

The current audio/squeezeboxserver port is still broken for me. I just
built a package set with an up to date ports tree and installed them in
a vanilla jail to make sure that there is no previous cruft which could
possibly be a problem.

After installing the package set I started the server and configured it
over the webinterface - just basic stuff, file location, playlist
location, that's it. Then I run

$ /usr/local/squeezeboxserver/scanner.pl --wipe --rescan

And I get:

# /usr/local/squeezeboxserver/scanner.pl --rescan --wipe
Your locale was detected as C, you may have problems with non-Latin filenames.

nvidia-driver 256.35 released

2010-06-22 Thread Emanuel Haupt
Nvidia released version 256.35 of their FreeBSD driver today:

http://www.nvidia.com/object/freebsd-x86-256.35-driver.html
http://www.nvidia.com/object/freebsd-x64-256.35-driver.html

I just compiled the the 64bit version on 8.1-RC1 and watched a few
youtube videos, ran glxgears and played games/nexuiz for a few minutes
w/o any issues.

If you want to test the new driver, just bump PORTVERSION of
x11/nvidia-driver to 256.35 and run "make makesum".

Has anyone tried if 7.5.1 solves teh DBI-x class issue?

There is one for each major version:

http://www.FreeBSD.org/ports/INDEX-5.bz2
http://www.FreeBSD.org/ports/INDEX-6.bz2
http://www.FreeBSD.org/ports/INDEX-7.bz2
http://www.FreeBSD.org/ports/INDEX-8.bz2
http://www.FreeBSD.org/ports/INDEX-9.bz2

Although it's always just the HEAD version. As others already pointed
out, if you want the package list for a specific release you could
checkout the ports tree from a release tag and build INDEX yourself.

Subject: [rsync-announce] Rsync 3.0.7pre2 released

Rsync version 3.0.7pre2 is now available for release testing. This is
a bug-fix release.

This fixes a problem with the --timeout code that existed in 3.0.7pre1.
I believe that this should be the last pre-release before 3.0.7, so
please test this and send email to the rsync mailing list with any
questions, comments, or bug reports.

To see a full summary of the changes since 3.0.6, visit this link:

  http://rsync.samba.org/ftp/rsync/src-previews/rsync-3.0.7pre2-NEWS

You can download the source tar file and its signature from here:

The patches directory is now in a separate tar file (for those that want
one or more of the patches):

Right, you can put shared make functionality in a seperate file and
include it by both ports. Personally I'd prefer two seperate ports
rather than OPTIONS because the two drivers don't provide the same
funcionality (ie missing TRIM support) and have different versions.

nvidia-driver 64bit version

2009-12-04 Thread Emanuel Haupt
Hi

I was wondering if you're working on a port for the 64bit version of
the new beta state nvidia driver [1].

Since it's a completely different version it should IMO be seperate from
x11/nvidia-driver. Maybe x11/nvidia-driver-amd64 and x11/nvidia-driver
could be renamed to x11/nvidia-driver-i386.

sysutils/bsdadminscripts provides a script called pkg_libchk which does

The update still remains broken:

[foo...@portjail ~]$ pkg_info
bash-static-4.0.10_1 The GNU Project's Bourne Again SHell

[r...@portjail ~]$ set -x
[r...@portjail ~]$ echo $(uname)
-bash: command substitution: line 25: syntax error near unexpected token `)'
-bash: command substitution: line 25: `uname)'
[r...@portjail ~]$ echo $(uptime)
-bash: command substitution: line 26: syntax error near unexpected token `)'
-bash: command substitution: line 26: `uptime)'
[r...@portjail ~]$ echo $(ls)
-bash: command substitution: line 27: syntax error near unexpected token `)'
-bash: command substitution: line 27: `ls)'

however, backticks work:

[r...@portjail ~]$ echo `uname`
++ uname
+ echo FreeBSD
FreeBSD

Also, shells/bash now conflicts with shells/bash-completion which
it shouldn't.

This would involve much more initial work. We have many -devel ports
that are actually just more recent versions. Once there is a working
1.37 port either people will start moving to 1.37, bringing the new
version to each maintainers attention would help.

At some point devel/boost will become 1.37 and devel/boost-devel will
then either be removed or updated to a never version.

Eventually we could repocopy devel/boost to devel/boost-devel then
update devel/boost-devel to 1.37 and have maintainers (and the
community) decide whether they like to adapt their ports to the current
version.

If anyone can submit a working boost 1.37 port (preferably a patch
against devel/boost) I'd be glad to take over that task.

It is not that simple. Roughly 83 ports depend directly or indirectly
on boost:

$ grep boost-1.34.1 /usr/ports/INDEX-7 | wc -l
  83

I'm sure Simon would gladly commit your patch.

Since ACL support isn't a default feature (ACL functionality is added
by a custom patch) it seems to be a bug. Probably your best shot to get
it fixed is following up a bug report at:
