dovecot-2.3.8 not building (lua error)

Hi,

dovecot is not building on FreeBSD 12.0-REL if lua support is not
selected, but does build if it is.

perl port updates

2019-08-22 Thread Paul Macdonald via freebsd-ports

I wonder if i'm not alone in wishing the perl maintainer would update
UPDATING with the actual up to date commands to do an upgrade,  instead
of referring to an entry from many moons ago

I'm not lazy, but if it was done once, this would actually save effort
for 100 boxes for me,   and i suspect save effort for 10's of thousands
of people ( and avoid easy to make mistakes)

Please take the time to make UPDATING correct ( and actually up to date)
, it'll save many man hours!

( i do appreciate their time is valuable too, but there is a
multiplication effect)

sincere thanks

Paul.

Re: certbot lost certificates , and registration data

2018-12-10 Thread Paul Macdonald via freebsd-ports

On 10/12/2018 13:15, Paul Macdonald via freebsd-questions wrote:

Is anyone else seeing py-certbot having lost all installed certs, and
the initial registation data?

There was an update on the 7th

Upgrade of py27-certbot-0.28.0_1,1 to py27-certbot-0.29.1_1,1

and on 3 boxes tested so far, which all had certs, i now see no certs
listed and a request to redo the initial registation on attempts to
install a new cert.

i don't see any issues upstream here:
https://github.com/letsencrypt/boulder/issues/ so not sure if this is
FBSD thing or not.

Paul.

passing --config-dir /usr/local/etc/letsencrypt shows expected output, i
suspect something has happend with that flag on the upgrade ( i see
/etc/letsencrypt directories on affected servers)

curl: CARES or THREADED_RESOLVER

2017-08-17 Thread Paul Macdonald

I see a recent ports bug for curl has now been fixed, but requires a new
config option of either

CARES or THREADED_RESOLVER

( if i recall, a lot of us deselected threaded resolver when it broke curl in
2014)

how is now best, to pre select a default of either on 'many' machines, without
a make config on each?

thanks
Paul.

pecl-memcached (3)

2017-02-14 Thread Paul Macdonald

Hi,

pecl-memcached has been updated in the ports tree from 2.2.0.5 to 3.0.1

however 3+ version is for PHP7 only,

An IGNORE notice is in the Makefile,

we'll all be on php7 sometime, but as PHP56 is still in security release
should v3 be a seperate port to avoid v2 generating update alerts via
ports mgmt tools?

Re: Proftpd bug, chroot does not allow for access to or creation of folders named 'lib'

2015-05-18 Thread Paul Macdonald

I can confirm this problem on FreeBSD 8.4-RELEASE i386 with
proftpd-1.3.5_2

Is some patch available to fix this? (I cannot disable DefaultChroot)

a bug report has been filed.

https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=198938

I've updated the PR with some short info what I found. Basically,
there's a special case in src/fsio.c which explicitly denies
writing to /etc and /lib in the chroot-case, refering to 3 year
old AUSCERT warnings for proftpd with FreeBSD.

Someone needs to check whether those warnings still apply to current-day
proftpd and freebsd.

I'd updated the PR but just in case this is of use to the list the
workaround is simply to create a parent folder for your ftp root,

so as viewed by proftpd /etc/ would become /parent/etc

Proftpd bug, chroot does not allow for access to or creation of folders named 'lib'

2015-03-26 Thread Paul Macdonald

AFFECTS
10.1

BUG:

Proftpd with chroot on does not allow for the creation of or
uploading to folders named 'lib'

   I have installed proftpd-basic_1.3.4a-5+deb7u2_armhf.deb onto a
raspberry pi to test if problem is upstream and can create and upload to
'lib' folders there.

As many wordpress plugins use such folders, this is quite problematic.

I'd appreciate it if anyone else can test this ( i've tried on
several servers)

thanks

Fetched Ports index falling out of date

2012-10-16 Thread Paul Macdonald

Hi,

For the past 4 days or so, i have noticed an issue where the ports INDEX
is out of date.

e.g
portupgrade-2.4.10,2> succeeds index (index has 2.4.9.9,2)
sqlite3-3.7.14.1> succeeds index (index has 3.7.14)

This is on both 8.3 REL and 9.0 REL (amd64)

Ports index update performed by make fetch index in /usr/ports
and also tried portsdb -Fu

Building with Uu fixes issue but i don't fancy doing that locally every day.

Anyone else seeing this?

thanks
Paul.

Munin crashing : p5-Net-Server

Hi,

After a recent upgrade to p5-Net-Server-2.005 on various boxes, I'm
finding that munin-node is going down regularly.

(Multiple machines, looks to be affected on FreeBSD8.2 and FreeBSD8.3
REL, but not 9.0 machines)

It looks related to trying to start on an ipv6 interface ( which is not
there) and i suspect this is a default from the perl Net-Server module
rather than munin?

Because currently there is no other way to do it unless you delete all
your php5 packages and recompile them again under php53. Sure, the web

apache doesn't restart. But there are many applications who make
certain php cli calls. Those will not work!

So, my question to the maintainers is, was there a particular reason
that made you take this decision?

When would have been a better time?

As a rule of thumb, the best time to mark a port as being the default
is when there is a demand for it.

As a side note, given the fact that FreeBSD is and should be the
number 1 choice for webservers we have to make sure that before we
proceed to such a major change we have:

1) A documented upgrade path
2) A documented roll back path

Currently, if we want to stay up to date, we have to either nuke php5
and reinstall php53 or nuke php5 and reinstall php54.
This requires down time work and effort. I would never complain if
there was a security issue that had to make me recompile the full php
suite. But now, I have to explain to many customers why I need down
time in order for them to continue using the php53 version.

Cheers

Or in pkgtools.conf, add something to disallow upgrading
inconditionally php ports if they're sensitive to your business workflow.

hope this helps,

E

http://gthcfoundation.org/

this does seem to be an unfortunate upgrade path as the options for my
clients were:
default upgrade -> move to a non suhosin, some major cms broken
(albeit better) version 5.4
'stay' on 5.3, paradoxically requiring a deletion of existing
php5/php5-extensions ports tree and a reinstall from php53 which had no
history of previous extensions.

deletion of sqllite at same time didn't help

i suspect this is due to the autoconf upgrade..

interestingly i can't see the nbase patch file on a box that worked,

on re-updating ports tree i can see this patch is removed..

so solution is to re-update ports tree if seeing same problem..

The problem is actually with the dependency devel/popt. The new
devel/gettext uses libintl.so.9, so it looks like something was not
properly updated. Update your ports tree, to make sure you have the
latest gettext-related fixes, and try again. And if I were you, I
would use 'portupgrade -fuvr gettext' to clean out the old shared
libraries and force rebuilds. It may take a little longer, though.
Assuming that at least part of your first update attempt was
successful, you could avoid another sweeping update by just looking at
ports that are still mistakenly linked to the old gettext libraries,
like libintl.so.8, and then just update those ports and their direct
dependencies, but that could also take time, and requires a little
knowledge. It is probably just safer to to perform the whole update
again.

thanks for your response,

rebuilding devel/popt and then rebuilding sysutils/logrotate worked

I'd forgotten that i use portmaster not portupgrade on that box so had done
portmaster -w -r gettext

Fear not, there is no need to do a massive rebuild, merely update (or forcibly
update), and a whole bunch of issues with the port in an upgrading environment
will go away.

BTW, just found more ports needs to be bumped due to gettext:

mail/mutt-devel

security/libksba
security/libgcrypt
(they use libgpg-error)

what appears in the log:

The code itself uses tcpdf (www.tcpdf.org) to create a pdf form which in
turn uses two png images. If these images are commented out, or even
changed to jpeg (though this is not ideal as they have transparency) we
get the above problem.

Oops... Sorry I meant to say we *don't* get that problem!! It's only
when it is a png image that we get the abort.

Before updating php-gd (but after libpng), we had the "png_check_sig"
but the patch had been applied.

This might just be a heads up for other people who haven't upgraded this
port yet but my

sendmail+tls+sasl2-8.14.4 < needs updating (port has 8.14.4_1)

led to a unstartable sendmail with:

sendmail in free(): error: junk pointer, too high to make sense

I just used portdowngrade to go back to 8.14.4 ( downgrade
/usr/ports/mail/sendmail not /usr/ports/mail/sendmail-sasl2 if you're
in the same boat)

The upgrade was fine on 5 or 6 other boxes but the error was on a
production box so i can't furnish much more details as obviously had to
fix asap.

Any suggestions as how to fix properly, or anyone else with same problem?

thanks
Paul.

PHP gd issues

2009-07-15 Thread Paul Macdonald

Hi,

Sometime within the last week an upgrade has left some php gd functions
non working on my systems,

from imagecreatefrom png: gd-png: fatal libpng error:
[00][00][00][00]: unknown critical chunk

I don't recall any updates which might have affected this and can;t see
anything in ports/UPDATING.

A re-install of php5-extensions leaves in the same state...

Has anyone else seen this and any suggestions for a fix?

Is there a log of recently updated ports i can look at ( i stupidly
don;t log this myself)

thanks
Paul.

Re: misc/e2fsprogs-libuuid build failure

2009-05-06 Thread Paul Macdonald

Greetings,

for lack of proper debugging facilities, and because I have 1:1 votes
for/against a test conducted behind the scenes:

Could anybody who has issues with building e2fsprogs-libuuid on
FreeBSD 6.X please add " --disable-tls" (without the quote marks) to
CONFIGURE_ARGS, as in:

CONFIGURE_ARGS=--enable-elf-shlibs --disable-tls

and let me know if it helps?

no difference on one of my FreeBSD 6.2-RELEASE boxes.

If this remains unconclusive, I may later have to ask for unprivileged
pubkey-authenticated login to a FreeBSD 6.X machine.

i can possibly help with this.
Paul.

Thanks in advance.

Best regards

lighttpd-1.4.21 upgrade problem

2009-02-23 Thread Paul Macdonald

Hi,

I'm seeing some odd issues after the port update of lighttpd to 1.4.21

Specifically flv files don;t autoplay till the whole file is downloaded
and then once started die after a few seconds..

I'm seeing this on several servers and the same thing with a src build.

A manual build of 1.4.20 doesn't exhibit the same behaviour.

Anyone else seeing this?

thanks
Paul Macdonald.

Re: Perl upgrade question

2009-01-14 Thread Paul Macdonald

Having gotten that far, I've got 40+ files - or at
least directories - in /usr/local/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.8.8. Most
have the ".pm" extension, with a few ".so", ".bs", and ".packlist"
thrown in. No ".ph"
Am I in trouble? And if so, what next?

Respectfully,

Hi robert,

I ran the upgrade script (without looking at those files) on 1 box that
runs multiple perly things this morning (spamassassin, mrtg etc ) and
nothing has broken as yet..

I nearly choked on my muesli seeing i had 30 boxes all needing a perl
upgrade this morning

good luck
Paul.
