2009 Intel Mac mini
I am very interested in getting FreeBSD 8.1 with ZFS running on a 2009 Intel Mac mini. I have no trouble getting it to run on all the previous Intel models but the 2009 versions hang on boot. I believe it is related to the issue mentioned on this page http://wiki.freebsd.org/AppleMacbook regarding r189055. Has anyone had success with this? Thank you. Re: any recommended simple text editors?????

Should also be able to connect to a linux box by recompiling source for the linux computer. There are so many editors listed in the packages cd , can anyone recommend one in particular Prefered is one that is menu driven with no keystrokes to remember other than the common keys on the pc keyboard : delete , arrows , backspace etc. Pico is relatively simple. Pico is typically the editor for the pine email client. I used when I first started out in Linux. By the time I moved over to FreeBSD, vi or vim was my editor of choice and mutt was my email client. You probably won't want to use vi or vim because it is not necessarily intuitive. It is extremely efficient and great to work with after you get used to it though. It was one of the best things I learned to use. Hope that helps. Re: secure pop server

Recommend software and provide links? A POP3 server like cucipop works very nicely. It is found in /usr/ports/mail/cucipop. By secure I am assuming you mean SSL support. The best way to add SSL support to cucipop is using stunnel. It is found in /usr/ports/security/stunnel. Cucipop works great on a small scale but I use courier-imap (/usr/ports/mail/courier-imap) along with stunnel for my main server. (In case you are wondering, courier-imap includes a POP3 server as well as an IMAP server.) Courier-imap only supports maildir while cucipop only supports mbox. It really depends on what your requirements are. You did not give much information about what your goal is. Hope that helps. Netcraft Info for abcnews.go.com and FreeBSD
In looking up some sites on Netcraft, I discovered a bit of an anomaly. Check it out at: http://uptime.netcraft.com/up/graph/?site=abcnews.go.com How does this kind of anomaly happen? Obviously we have some sort of clustered set of servers that are serving up abcnews.go.com using Microsoft-IIS/5.0. It appears that they are running Windows 2000. Where did the FreeBSD OS fingerprint come from? How does Windows 2000 look like FreeBSD? Obviously Microsoft-IIS/5.0 does not run on FreeBSD. Could it be that FreeBSD is acting as a firewall or load-distributor? Any ideas? Bryan To Unsubscribe: send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with "unsubscribe freebsd-questions" in the body of the message

Another option is gaim with the msn plugin. Try doing: make search key=msn in /usr/ports and you will get a more complete listing of options. Hope that helps. Look in /usr/ports/security/openssh-portable and read the Makefile. The OPENSSH_OVERWRITE_BASE variable applies specifically to the openssh-portable port. The variable does not work with the /usr/ports/security/openssh port. It causes the openssh-portable port to replace the system-installed binaries, etc. When I was using openssh from ports I would just go to /usr/ports/security/openssh-portable and run: env OPENSSH_OVERWRITE_BASE=true make install You want to use the NO_OPENSSH=true in /etc/make.conf so that when you make buildworld and installworld you won't replace the port-installed binaries with the system-default binaries. Re: Interest in diskless booting?
I was at a local installfext yesterday (http://installfest.auug.org.au/), and a number of people were interested in doing diskless booting, either for reasons of economy or reliability. I'm currently about to finish the manuscript of the fourth edition of "The Complete FreeBSD", and I was wondering if there was enough interest in this topic for me to include it in the book. If *you* are interested, please let me know. I'll make a decision depending on the amount of feedback I get. ** diskless booting ** how to prepare a disk to generate a bootable .iso ** up-to-date pico/small how-to for writing a bootable image to a CF drive. All of these things would be very useful! Bryan To Unsubscribe: send mail to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with "unsubscribe freebsd-questions" in the body of the message
