Re: Promise SuperTrak EX12350 don't get detected under FreeBSD 6.2

2007-12-13 Thread Göran Nilsson
I have come a bit further. It seems that if I create a 2TB drive it all goes
good. But it doesn't seems to work when doing a large 5TB drive.
Is there some limitations on fdisk, and the size on partitions? Can't it
exceed 2TB? The machine is a ordinary Core 2 duo 6750 with 4GB of ram.

Re: Promise SuperTrak EX12350 don't get detected under FreeBSD 6.2

2007-12-13 Thread Göran Nilsson
On the controller there it says that it supports freebsd 6.1. And yes there
is documentation on how to install freebsd 6.1 on the raid.
But for now i have installed freebsd on a RAID1 system, and i have problem
getting the card detcted, i run a 5TB RAID 6 on this card.
Didn't thought that it could be that much differens between version 6.1 and
6.2. Gonna try to reinstall. After the reinstall i got the card up and
running. I see it get detected and it all looks ok. I go in and do a fdisk
on the drive and label/mount it. I do all this in sysinstall.
I can see that the drive is 4648GB so it all looks ok with the RAID 6 Drive.
When i later quit sysinstall and check the mounts i see that the drive space
is 532GB and available space is 500GB. This looks totally wrong. Is there
any limitations that im not aware of?

Promise SuperTrak EX12350 don't get detected under FreeBSD 6.2

2007-12-12 Thread Göran Nilsson
Hi,
I have a problem getting my EX12350 Radicontroller to work under FreeBSD 6.2.
When i start the computer or rund a dmesg i can see that
"mass storage raid ..no driver attached"
For what i can see this card should be supported under FreeBSD 6.1, but
could it be soo that the support is missing in 6.2? Any tips?
Should i try to go for the 6.3 RC1. I really need this card up and running,
i run it as a RAID 6. I have tried this with just the generic kernel,
So the most should be in there?

Ideas, is most appriciating, coz im kinda stuck.

FreeBSD compiles to what POSIX or XPG?

2006-02-11 Thread Göran Nilsson
I have tried google, and tried bsdfourms. Now I'll put my hope to this list
instead.

Does FreeBSD compiles to the POSIX or X/Open Portability Guide XPG/1, /2,
/3, /4 standards?
I have found out that Aix,HP-UX,Solaris are three of them that compiles to
this standard.
So all systems that goes under "Unix" follow these standars.

I would be very interestead of a link to a document saying weither or not
FreeBSD
compiles to any of the above mentioned standards.

With regards

Thanks Ian.
This sure looks like a good solutions. Are there anyone that have tried out
bacula on FreeBSD 6.0 in a production enviroment?

Remote backup solutions

2006-02-07 Thread Göran Nilsson
Hi all.
Im looking for som software (opensource) that's scalable to to plenty of
remote backups over the Internet. The idea about this is offering small
companys to do theire backup to a remote distance, and don't have to concern
that much about it. The companys servers are generally NT 4.0 Server up to
Windows2003. The backup system should be based on a FreeBSD 6.0 system. In
the beginning it won't be that many companys doing remotebackups still, it
should be easy grow with the jobs needed.
Anyone have a pointer to what i should look for?
Shoud the backups be done via a vpn solutions like "OpenVPN" and rsync?
Or should i look for something else? Are there any "pitfalls" i should
lookout for?

Anyway any/all feedback is most appriciated.

If all you're going to do is use "JBOD", why even
have the raid controller in the first place?

atacontrol

2005-09-08 Thread Göran Nilsson
Hi. I have recently installed Freebsd 5.4 . I have also installed a cheap
raidcontroller . On the controller i put on a 200+120gb disk.

In the raidcontroller i create a JBOD raid, showing me that i now have 301gb
of disk. That's a loss of 19gb, i can live with that.

After login I do a "atacontrol create JBOD ad5 ad6". It now creates ar0
device with 223gb of space. That's nearly a 100gb of disk loss!
If and how can i prevent the huge 100gb of storage loss?
