Migrating from reiserfs to ext3

2007-08-18 Thread Konrad Scorciapino
Hello!

I have a single 200GB HD that is divided in three partitions, one with
FreeBSD, another with Linux and the other with my media. The first two are
10GB, and the latter, 180GB.

The problem is that it is a ReiserFS partition, not writable from FreeBSD,
so I'll have to change it to, say, ext3, if I'm going to be able to use
xMule again. Since I can't backup the whole thing, I'll have to use another
method to convert it.

I'm using quotes because apparently there is no such utility that converts a
given partition to another type. Why is that so? I was thinking about the
hard links.

Since the partition has some free space and its file hierarchy is quite
simple (eg, mp3/baroque/bach/bwv82_1.mp3), wouldn't it work if I resize it
to be full, using the freed space to create a new partition, and then, until
the first one is empty, move content from it to the newly created, resizing
both so that the first one is full again?

Anybody ever tried something like that? Are there utilities that could help
out, or dangers I need to avoid?

Thanks!

GHDL, Ada and FreeBSD on amd64

2007-08-17 Thread Konrad Scorciapino
Hello guys,

As there is no ghdl port in FreeBSD, I'm wondering if I can build one.

The issue is that one of its dependencies, GNAT (GNU Ada compiler), is
available only for i386, not for amd64.

As it _is_ available for Linux, I was thinking about running it with
FreeBSD's Linux emulation system, but as I have no idea of how it is
implemented and as according to freenode's #ada it has to do with FreeBSD's
threading, I'm wondering if my efforts would be destined to fail.

Thanks in advance,

Booting from a hard disk not supported by the BIOS

2004-01-09 Thread Konrad Scorciapino
Hi,

I've got an old computer with 2 hard disks. The first has 2GB and FreeBSD installed;
the second, 20GB and windows installed. However, the computer's BIOS is quite old and
doesn't detect the second hard disk, so I cannot boot from it.

So how can I do that? I've tried installing FreeBSD's boot manager, but apparently it
gets the devices' information from BIOS, since the only hard disk that appears in the
boot list is the first one. Or perhaps there is a file somewhere to edit and add all
information.

Anyway, any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Problem installing GIMP

2003-06-30 Thread Konrad Scorciapino
Hello,

I'm having problems installing GIMP (stable version) with the ports here. It installs
'gimp.setfont' but not 'gimp'. Looking at the installed things with `pkg_info -L
gimp-version`, everything seems ok, but most of those files are not really installed.

When installing it, `make` goes ok, but in the last lines of `make install`, I get
some errors:

=== Compressing manual pages for gimp-1.2.5,1
/usr/X11R6/man//man1/gimp.1: No such file or directory
/usr/X11R6/man//man1/gimptool.1: No such file or directory

/usr/X11R6/man//man5/gimprc.5: No such file or directory
/usr/X11R6/man//man5/gimprc-1.2.5: No such file or directory

And when I try to uninstall, I get lots of file doesn't really exist errors.

Also, I don't have the ports tree installed, so I have created the ports directory for
gimp1, all its dependencies and the dependencies of the dependencies.

What may be wrong?

What did you try sending to /dev/ulpt0 that caused things to lock up?

Anything I tried caused the system to lock up. Here are some examples

[EMAIL PROTECTED] /home/konrad # lptest /dev/ulpt0
^C
[EMAIL PROTECTED] /home/konrad # ls /dev/ulpt0
^C
[EMAIL PROTECTED] /home/konrad # cat /etc/cvsupfile /dev/ulpt0

And how do I know whether my printer is a winprinter or not?

The standard way is by sending it flat ascii text, and seeing if it
prints that. If it prints the text you sent, it's not a winprinter. If
it does nothing, or prints gibberish, it's probably a winprinter.

So it means that my printer is a winprinter?
