Thanks for your reply Ted.

I don't have a mimencode binary on my system and nothing in the ports
tree.
I am using FreeBSD 5.3-Release.

And yes I realise it isnt standardised, however I just want to email
myself a html page, displaying system statistics.

HTML Mail from Command Line

2005-06-22 Thread Mick Walker
Hi All,

How can I send HTML mail from the command line with freeBSD.

The command:
cat design.HTML | mail -s "System Statistics" root

Simply emails the HTML file as a text file, where the HTML code is
clearly visible. What I want the to make the client see the content as
HTML, and act accordingly.

As I recall, when I have used other variants of *nix, the mail binary
comes with a -a flag to specify the content type, this does not appear
to be true with FreeBSD.

Does anyone know how I can achieve this?

Setting Up a X Server

2005-04-20 Thread Mick Walker
Hello everyone;

I am looking for information on how to setup a remote X server.

This is my setup:

Internet.
|
FreeBSD Gateway (Running Xorg)
|
8 Port hub > Wireless Base Station
|
6 machines, Various Operating Systems

What I wish to be able to do is setup the 6 client machines to be able
to access the X server running on the gateway.
I have looked at the gdm configuration manager, and it allows a option
for remote connections, but I am unsure of the exact procedure I would
use to connect to this from one of the client systems. The one I am
mostly concerned with is my FreeBSD laptop.
Do I need to create some 'virtual screens' to enable more than one X
session to be run on the machine at once?

I have also tried acomplising this using Xvnc, however when I try to
start the server I get the error message:

[EMAIL PROTECTED] /usr/local/bin/Xvnc

Fatal server error:
Server is already active for display 0
If this server is no longer running, remove /tmp/.X0-lock
and start again.

I still wish the local X server to be able to be run, so I am unsure how
I can proceed.

I hope someone can help.

I can imagine it would. If there was a command= (could be, but
I'm relatively new to doing the automated install stuff), it's
not mentioned in the example install.cfgs I've seen. Besides,
even if it is an option, think about how it would carry out...
it makes about as much sense as telling your shell to:

echo "hello="hola""

... syntax is kinda sucky.

HTH,

Mike

Pardon my ignorance, but is there a section in the handbook/man pages
relating to creating custom install images?
I would find this really useful TBH. However from work I do not have
access to the internet, or the handbook installed locally to check.

Mounting Samba Shares

2005-03-09 Thread Mick Walker
Hello all,

I have run into a strange problem when mounting a samba share on my
FreeBSD 5.3 gateway. I am attempting to mount this share on my laptop,
which also runs FreeBSD 5.3.

As root I can mount the share perfectly, but if I try as a user then I
get the following error:

[EMAIL PROTECTED] mount -t smbfs //server/mwalker /home/mwalker/mount
Warning: no cfg file(s) found.
smbfs: can not setup kernel iconv table (default:tolower): syserr =
Operation not permitted
[EMAIL PROTECTED]

I have vfs.usermount=1 set in my /etc/sysctl.conf and all usernames are
the same on both systems so it isn't a authentication issue.

Does anyone have any idea what my issue is? And are there any common
solutions/workarounds to this issue.

Thanks

Have you added a Window List applet to the panel?
This is the applet which controls what you desire.

Right click on the panel, select "Add to panel", a new window should now
open, scroll down to the window list item.

Why would you make a statement like that without making points to back

I actually agree with you, but my reasoning is due to me being a
predominately C programmer as opposed to a C++ programmer.
But front end (user) wise, I have no preference.

Set up of Wireless on laptop

2005-01-16 Thread Mick Walker
Hi all,
I have bought myself a wireless network card (Linksys WPC11 VER 3), it

However I cant seem to get it to work, I have followed the instructions
in the hand book, it works fine if I disable wep on the wireless access
point, however with it enabled it doesn't work at all.
Could someone give me a brief outline of how to get wep working?
If you need any other data, I would be happy to help.

Nautilus Issues

2005-01-09 Thread Mick Walker
Hi All,

I have just upgraded from gnome 2.6 to gnome 2.8.
This upgrade also upgraded nautilus to 2.8.2.
The issue I am having is viewing image files with nautilus, the previous
version allowed me to view images in the same browser window that I was
browsing the file system with, however in the newer version I can't find
the setting to allow me to do this, I have looked through the gconf
settings, and can't seem to find a setting that related to this feature.
But maybe it is a case of me not being able to see the forest for the
trees.
Currently when I double click on a image file, eog is loaded in a
separate window. Does anyone know how I can revert back to the previous
way of viewing images I mentioned above?

Thanks for your time.

Copyright Issues

2004-11-23 Thread Mick Walker
Hi all,

Sorry if this post is off topic.
Last night me and a few friends decided to go for a few quiet drinks
after playing football for a few hours. For this we choose a little pub
in the village of Yarm (Close to Middlesbrough in the north east of the
UK), the name does escapes me at this time, but I believe it had some
reference to a 'Ox' in the title.

Now, getting to the point, I was shocked when I went into the toilet
facilities in the pub, and found one of those vending machines that sell
novelty items of a sexual nature, featuring on the design something that
looked remarkably similar to the BSD Daemon.
Having my camera cell phone with me, I took a few snaps which are
located here:
http://codegurus.org/~mwalker/Image045.jpg
http://codegurus.org/~mwalker/Image046.jpg
http://codegurus.org/~mwalker/Image047.jpg
http://codegurus.org/~mwalker/Image049.jpg
http://codegurus.org/~mwalker/Image050.jpg

The company that supplies these vending machines is called Naughty Vend
(http://www.naughtyvend.com/). I have checked their site, and I find no
reference to and copyright credits to the original artist. To the best
of my knowledge, the BSD Daemon is copyrighted by Marshall Kirk
McKusick.
Is this a case of copyright theft? As obviously they are a profit making
company. Or have i got totally the wrong end of the stick.
