Unable to load a kernel !

2007-04-11 Thread Oscar Chavarria

Error Message: Loading /boot/defaults/loader.conf
Unable to load a kernel !
'
can't load 'kernel'

System: AMD Athlon 64 +3000 1.8GHz - 1.0GB RAM - Windows Server 2003
originally installed.

Background: Booting from CD FreeBSD seems to install without problems.
Create user, add sysadmin password, some utilities. Then system cannot
reboot when finished. When done manually, I choose F2 for FreeBSD and the
referenced error message appears. Windows boots normally when chosen.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Unable to mount HDD - Newbie question

2007-05-14 Thread Oscar Chavarria

I lost environmental power temporarily a few days ago, and when it was back
(almost immediately), the machine restarted without any input from me.

I had mounted to /home a 30 GB usb 2.0 hdd.

I tried mounting again since I did not find it in df.

The prompt is always "WARNING: /home was not properly dismounted.

The output from dmesg is:
da0 at umass-sim0 bus 0 target 0 lun 0
da0: etc
WARNING: /home was not properly dismounted.

Thanks in advance for any help to mount the disk again.

Please don't top-post and keep the conversation on the list.

It seems like you've tried to fsck only the slice (da0s1). You have to
fsck the partition itself:

# fsck /dev/da0s1d

The last letter should be the one you assigned when you labeled that
drive.

Show us the output of:

# ls /dev/da0*

Mikhail.

Re: Unable to mount HDD - Newbie question

2007-05-14 Thread Oscar Chavarria

If you will excuse me for now. I'm trying to solve the top-post problem.

I lost environmental power temporarily a few days ago, and when it was back
(almost immediately), the machine restarted without any input from me.

I had mounted to /home a 30 GB usb 2.0 hdd.

I tried mounting again since I did not find it in df.

The output from dmesg is:
da0 at umass-sim0 bus 0 target 0 lun 0
da0: etc
WARNING: /home was not properly dismounted.

Thank you Paul, tried umount but the result was the same.

Tried this:
ls /dev/da0*
/dev/da0s dev/da0s1
dev/da0s1c dev/da0s1d

Thanks in advance for any help to mount the disk again.

I'm wondering if he shouldn't try umount /home first.

USB keyboard not recognized at bootup

2007-08-03 Thread Oscar Chavarria
I have a GENERIC kernel. The /usr/src/sys/i386/conf/GENERIC file contains
the following under the USB Support section (among other devices):

device usb #USB Bus (required)
device uhid#"Human Interface Devices"
device ukbd #Keyboard

Nevertheless, the keyboard is useless, not recognized until FreeBSD takes
control, for example to choose the type of bootup: safe, single user,
reboot, etc.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I tried the Xorg web page but I couldn't confirm if the *Matrox G550 32MB
AGP (G55+MDHA32DB) *is specifically compatible with FreeBSD 6.1.

Where do I obtain information for this specific card drivers' compatibility?
